Do we know if that was an actual screenshot or a digital photo of his computer screen. The brightness boost is rather suspect.

In my mind it is a knob, it is green, and it's about the size of a dinner plate.

But we have know way of knowing if that comparison from Mr. Hunt is real, we can't/shouldn't assume that is what it looks like either.

Like i said before, we know of three respectable people that have the actual discs and have commented on it, none have released a verifiable screenshot. Just wait for bluray.com, dvdbeaver, someone like that to review it since they are trusted sources that post screen shots. Then decide.

Thanks,
The discs in my player will be the final test. But unless there is a developing conspiracy, the initial news isn't promising and the AVS Forum reviewer has already confirmed the green Caradhras grading. We'll know more in a short amount of time. I have high hopes for this, my favorite version of my favorite story, and may it be that Frodo doesn't awake in Rivendell to the cinematic equivalent of Irish heaven.

it was a picture taken of his screen, the original one (without the TE BD comparison to the right) was not nearly as blown out brightness wise.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attac...5&d=1308108965

Edit: maybe it is as blown out?

But again, the poster provides no proof it is actually from Hunt, could be him tinkering with an image. Hence my point about jumping to conclusions, though it gives me hope if true.

Why would he wake up in Rivendell in a room full of whisky and prostitutes?

Greetings,

The truth of the matter is that I had not yet viewed Part Two of FOTR and agreed to take a look at the scene in question.

My initial comment was "From what I have seen thus far..."

As far as I can see further analysis regarding this issue serves no legitimate purpose but feel free to keep searching.

Regards,

I am surprised this shot hasn't caused uproar

From Penman at AVS:
TTT TE BD vs TTT EE BD
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/59619

Clearly a red tint to the EE. I think it looks fine, just saying. And again, we don't even know where these screen shots are coming from. Just find it funny how people insight one thing over another.

Probably shouldn't poke the bear.

I don't know how those shots were taken/who took them, but keep in mind that the rendition of red in particular is pretty easy to screw up by capturing in the wrong color space.
I'm not a fan of dissecting tiny color differences in screencaps, since there's many ways for colors to be slightly off, though I'm not sure how you'd accidentally introduce the teal coloring.

That change is so minor. You don't notice it unless you look at them on that page. Even then, both are just fine. Teal is not.

Romansh
Thanks for clearing up any details of the origin I was ignorant too.

Regardless, still wait for the images from the actual retail discs.

Also, regarding the Hunt comparison?, regardless if it is still a bit green, it is no where near as egregious as the shot it is comparing against.

Thanks,

Again, when you see the scene on its own without a reference it might look 'fine'. But compared to the TE it still has the teal tint.
BUt the TE is way too red... why doesn't anyone see/acknowledge that the sky shouldn't be pink? Of course the new version looks green compared to the previous release, which was WAYYYY too red.

Yes, if your TV has no overscan. No, if it does.

That's the tremendously sad part about all of this. Other than the color grading change, it appears that the new EE Blu-ray of FOTR is absolutely stunning in every other regard (sharpness, detail, noise, etc.).

I still refuse to believe that Jackson was behind this color grading change of that he even approved it. My reasons:

1) We have repeated reports that the EE version of FOTR shown theatrically (yesterday) does NOT have the teal/green/cyan tint. If Jackson wanted this new teal color shift, then that makes no sense. Why do it to the Blu-ray and not the theatrical showing of the EE?

2) If this teal color shift is what Jackson wanted, why do we only see it on FOTR and not on the other two movies in the EE Blu-ray set?

It just doesn't add up.

Mark

That scene has always had more of a red push in Two Towers.

These shots look amazing IMO. The EE BD PQ is what PJ want. so i am happy that he has approved this new edition. Can we all move along now.

As soon as it switches to the wide angle shot of them traversing the mountain the image has a noticebly bluish tinge (the comparison you reference is right on target). I watched the remainder of the sequence and the shots of the snowy mountain all look this way. The ones that flip back and forth to Isengard (spelling?) look fine.

I watched the same sequence on the FOTR EE DVD and it does not look this way. Quite frankly I am at a loss for the reasoning behind this."

Doesn't sound too promising.

But why argue if this is the way PJ wants the movies to be seen. He heimself adjusted these colors. if you don't like it don't buy it. It is that simple

the TE has red tint over the shot. while the EE has little blue. Definitely like the EE shot (PJ as well) better then the TE shot here when comparing those 2

Someone along the line screwed up... I will not be purchasing until enivitable replacements begin. smh
Why do you think there will be a replacement. PJ wanted the movies to look like this. Some don't agree with this. But i can asure you there is more that like the new coloring PJ applied. So if you think a replacement is coming for something PJ himself approved and worked on think again

Actually some have said they are a little darker in some scenes and here some also seen it and said they seen very little tint in theater for the EE. So they are the same as the BD
They just don't have comparison shots and they are enjoying the movie. So why should they see them.

yes that is what i am saying also plus they do not have comparison screenshots to look at.
