this is the same type of reaction when the inital impression of 'The Ten Commandments' prior to it's actual release. Someone (As well as everyone else) went apeshit over screenshots that weren't even calibrated right and then it turned out fine in the end.

Been hoping for that myself, even used the report feature on a few posts that seemed to be a bit too personnel in nature, mainly hoping to get some someone's attention and maybe a little order brought back to this thread.

At this point in time options seem to be firmly entrenched and nobody seems likely to give any; and those who recommend discussions be held back or at least slowed a little until we have more legit information seem to be completely ignored.

I agree that this thread and debate is getting to heated and out of hand...

So I am going dead it for now and go watch the end of the Yankees game.

At this moment this entire debate is getting childish.

I like the look of the screencaps.
But they are a bit green.
Folks sure love to deal in absolutes.

He DOES however suggest that the European versions of these discs could have an authoring problem since (as best we can tell) all of these screenshots seem to be emerging from Europe.
Mr. Hunt knows not of what he speaks here. Seriously.

Anyways.... please let these have no issues or other oddities. I expect 100% awesome transfers without any BS. If I dont get that and start hearing about legitimite problems, Im gonna be real sore.

i've been glancing at this thread for a week or so now, and hopefully the tint isn't that pronounced during the mountain/snow scene, that'd be a bummer. The rest of the screen shots looked great though. As long as it's not a gangs of new york disaster (bought day one, sold on amazon day two...), then i'll be happy. I'm more concerned with the audio track. I've been dealing with figuring out if my center channel is faulty on my speaker or receiver, only to discover it is most likely a poorly mixed audio track! On point though, are those screen shots even confirmed? Is there any possibility of someone just messing with the color temp and showing that online??

I don't know why that thought has been lost on so many people.
Netflix probably won't carry it and I don't have Blockbuster. Renting is out my possibility. I can afford it, but I physically cannot.

Thanks for this quote... that also helps relieve some apprehension. Can't wait to get this for myself. I bought the blu TE (yes, both on DVD and Blu - also had the EE on DVD) and hoped it could be better (FOTR that is).

Can't wait for these!!!

Industry friends I trust who were at the theatrical screenings last night said they did notice small color timing changes in the presentation - much as Robert describes in his comments (as "a point or two toward cyan-blue") but nothing as bad as what these screenshots are showing. I would say my observations are that Robert's comments are accurate as well - there's a slight change in the timing, but not nearly as bad as what these screenshots are showing. Believe me, when I saw the screenshots myself, I WAS actually horrified. But that is NOT what I'm seeing on the actual discs. That's not what Robert is seeing either. I suppose it could be that some copies that leaked out early were defective. It could also be that some of these screenshot projects aren't accurately capturing what's actually on the disc. I don't know. "

By and large most people with opposing opinions are being civil in this thread. It's just a few bad eggs who are bringing this debate/discussion down with personal attacks and unintelligent blather. Sometimes I think people get confused between the definition of opinion and fact.

I think everything has been said that can be said related to this 'green/cyan' issue. I can't fault anyone for keeping their pre-order in or canceling it.

I canceled mine reluctantly. It was a combination of the possible issue and north of $80 price for a set where all the extras are on DVD. I am hoping to hear more once it is officially in the wild. Those screenshots reminded me of the old green-cast pictures that early DLP sets were known for. Again at this point I don't think much else is adding to the conversation.

Exclamation "Green tint" Myth busted!

If you can stop bickering for a minute I think i have some good news.

I obtained a legitimate copy of the Blu-Ray set and as you can see from the screencap below, the "Green tint" issue has been greatly exaggerated.

[Show spoiler]

Hopefully we can move along discussing the other great thing about this Blu-Ray set, the 9 special content DVD discs which are the same as the ones in the DVD EE.

Good day sir.
WTH are you talking about it is you that is out there. This is from Bill Hunt about the "REAL" EE BD:

I skipped the studio and went directly to sources close to Jackson to see if I could find out what was ACTUALLY going on with the color timing, rather than doing my research (and drawing all my conclusions) through screenshots posted to internet forums and second-hand complaints by angry forum members, most of whom have not actually even seen the discs. I did this knowing that there's a history of these angry screenshot campaigns not exactly being accurate. Sure enough, when the discs arrived, they looked nowhere near as bad as some of the screenshots would lead you to believe. And I checked with others I knew actually had the discs to see if they could confirm my observations. They did. Just this evening, film restoration expert Robert Harris had this to say on HTF:

"To my eye, there may be a point or two toward cyan-blue, but nothing like what I'm seeing in the youtube example. Skies are generally a pleasant blue, flesh tones, even for non-humans are normal, greens are strong. I presume they're not in Kansas anymore. Detail is superb, recognizing the fact that we're dealing with 2k. I'm seeing no problems whatsoever. A beautiful and satisfying image. Projected via a JVC RS50 recently tuned by my go-to expert Kevin Miller, on a Stewart white 1.3."

Bill Hunt about people seeing the changes at the theater which as you know PJ approved and said the EE BD are the same:

So you see even industri people now say there are color changes on the theatrical presensentation for the EE same as there is for the BD.

What do you got to say now. More cheap shots even if you know i am right as you can see by the comments provided by reviewer Bill Hunt.

I probably would have ordered at that price and kept it in after this 'possible issue' popped up.

I remember watching the EE on my first DLP projector, the Sharp DT300. It liked to give a slight greenish cast to everything and this was before advance CMS, color management systems, were widely available on display devices. I was tweaking constantly but I could never find a setting that was good with everything.

Why won't the people that say they have a legit copy of LOTR EE prove it

Mr. Hunt knows not of what he speaks here. Seriously.
Ill take his word over this useless statement that you are providing me. My own eyes also work, too. The photo tells me exactly what Bill says it does: The actual BD is not NEAR as bad (colorwise) as the screenshots are showing. That is CLEARLY visible.

He is at least backing up his statement with something visual.

You are just providing...NOTHING.
