Is $83.99 still the cheapest price on this, or has it been advertised lower anywhere?

I'm still not convinced the whole thing hasn't been indiscriminately made more green, but some scenes work with it better than others.
Is there a way to make my tv do that?

This is what Robert Harris said about the EE LOTR Blu-ray:

Quote:
This is a beautiful set, with which I have no problems
I find it more than amusing that the screenshot gurus know more than Mr. Harris who is an authority on the subject of film restoration...
I think I will use that line as my signature.

Because then there is no fault in the transfer because it was intended with these new coloring

I am in no way convinced at this point in time that this is intentional. IF that ever got confirmed, it would be up to the reviewer to decide what to do. If it were me, the score would remain the same either way since my eyes tell me this is ugly compared to the film I have been viewing now for almost 10 years, the film I love. This new coloring flat out sucks IMO. I consider the old version to still be "approved" as well since it has been good enough for nearly 10 years now and is the coloring we all experienced when we first viewed it up until this tragedy.

Just my opinion though.

And you can make those statements based on what exactly? Have you personally seen the EE LOTR on Blu-ray?

Blu Titan.

Good idea - but you misspelled Robert in your signature You missed the 't' so it says Rober.

The only way I see a couple of those being intentional (specifically the 5th down) is if PJ was trying to adjust/correct the "time of day" the action was taking place.

I can see that shot semi-working if he was going for a twilight dust/dusk type setting, and even then I'm sure they could have found a better color choice. Otherwise completely off looking.

Outside of the 5th screenshot, I'm alright with the look of all the others in that review.

I agree completely. Have you ever heard anyone in the last 10 years say the film needed more green added to it? If the color timing would have remained the same or similar, I highly doubt there would be any controversy and the same people who "love" the new look would also be "loving" the original color timing.

I do not question that Robert Harris knows worlds more about film restoration than I do

But I'm not sure what that fact has to do with mostly subjective judgements regarding the quality of this release?

It goes without saying I am basing them off the comparison shots and everything else up to this point. Of course I will reserve FINAL judgement when I see them, but what is going to change? I hate the new coloring overall compared to how I have been viewing this film for years now........how is that going to change? It might not be quite as dramatic viewing without a side by side comparison, but there is no doubt in my mind, especially after having these comparison shots burned into my head over however many days now, that I will notice it. Whatever small advantages there might be will be far outweighed by green snow/skies. Ugly!

The BluBrew Review is a good, honest review. However, it's too bad the reviewer was so wiling to accept the "bad" just because there was some "good".

For a title this important in a 15-disc (expensive) box set there shouldn't be ANY significant stuff to complain about!

EXACTLY. They kept TT and ROTK in tact as far as color (THANK GOD!) and if they would have just left well enough alone as far as FOTR, this whole shitstorm would not be happening now.

Agreed. If anything we should be harder on a release of this caliber.

Robert Harris watched them, and he said they are fine (the color). That is good enough for me and I'm sure he's right - did you see his setup?

This is Robert Harris - not some random person.
I am looking forward to reading Ken's review here. But I can't believe how many people still want to (or need to) be worried.

He was referring to all of the comparisons between all the different versions. Which has nothing to do with the EE blus on their own.

Thats a YOU problem.

Because the fact of the matter is that not everybody is complaining about them.

There probably isnt a SINGLE release out there that somebody cant find anything to complain about it.
