Memory is not as good as you think when it comes to A/V. Unless you could do a side by side with the theatrical version and your blu ray, your conclusions will be questionable at best. There is VERY little weight we could put into the type of comparison you speak of IMO.

Interesting comments by a fellow AVSer who apparently viewed the BD tonight.........
Saw this tonight on a 120 inch screen. It is ugly. Green green green. They are in the fricking Matrix. This is not what the films looked like. We compared this BD to a 35mm trailer. Yes, an actual 35mm trailer projected on the same screen. Hollywood has gone insane with this teal and green garbage. It's like they HAVE to alter their work after the fact. Greedo didn't shoot first. So no more DNR. No more filtering. But contrast boosted and so green that the snow isn't white and skies are no blue. And for some reason, TTT and RotK do not suffer such revisionism. Why oh why did the first film have to be the one they screwed up? My favorite of the three, easily. This is just depressing. The disappointments never end with Blu-Ray. |

Here is my advice to you: Don't buy the set. Just don't. At this point you know you no longer want it. The movie is ruined. Seriously, just don't buy it. |

Just because Bill Hunt preferred the better format has nothing to do with the quality of his reviews or his ability to tell if the PQ of a release is good or not.

lets just say he was good at "twisting" the truth... I have a hard time trusting him anymore if it suits his "bias"

if there's a real and legitimate problem with the transfer, we should know about it and talk about it and let the studio know we care. We can still buy the blu-ray even with problems, but that doesn't preclude wishing it had been better if a mistake has been made. This isn't the last time these extended cuts will come to blu-ray disc, and so our feedback with this edition will affect Warner's work with the next release. Had folks not been "picky" and complained about DNR in Patton, we never would have gotten a new release with a proper transfer for that (which is coming). Same with Gladiator. This isn't being picky, it's wanting films presented properly on blu-ray Disc. The Wizard of Oz went through a similar color-shift with the previous DVD release where everything was "yellow". It was horrible, and Warner swore up and down that they had not altered the color and that it was historically correct. Then the blu-ray and most recent DVD edition were released and Warner had *fixed* the color problem that they said didn't exist on the previous release. Thank goodness folks had complained about the previous DVD when they did, because it caused Warner to not make the same mistake twice. Last edited by DaViD Boulet; 06-17-2011 at 04:04 AM. |

This will be the last post I make in the thread about the transfer until I see the BD myself. I will report how TTT and RotK look on the big screen, but I will not comment on the BDs until I get them. It's getting repetitive seeing post after post of the same content worded differently. Believing that 50 gigs is better than 30 gigs and that higher max/sustained bit-rate is better than lower bit-rate for difficult compression jobs and that the ability to better handle lossless audio is better than having to resort to lossy because of lack of headroom isn't "bias" in a negative sense unless you think it's bad to be "biased" to prefer higher quality transfers and audio reproduction.
