agreed. I wish I had the money for one of those as well, It's nice to have uber enthusiasts like that who can shed light on stuff like this

The problem is that you're attacking the messenger and commenting on an irrelevant issue to his review.

Matt is a well known poster over on AVS and many are familiar with him. Of course it is just one opinion, but worth noting with such limited actual disc viewing impressions at this point.

I bolded the letters

You have not a clue what you are talking about. Matt is a well known poster over on AVS and many are familiar with him. He lives in NYC where it is not uncommon to get blus ahead of release date.

Except for this ugly green issue which is a major downer for some of us if you have not noticed.

Agreed its getting pretty out there

Here is a great article who also thinks this new version of FOTR EE on BD is blowing away the TE BD

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/208...s-color-issues
This isn't a "French Connection" scenario thankfully, other captures from different parts of the extended edition Blu-ray in comparison to the theatrical version however show a major improvement in coloring along with decidedly more detail.

I took screen caps from here and here and cut out the same 590x300 piece from each image. Remember this is only a fraction of the image, yet you can already see the distinct difference in quality:
More importantly even the stuffiest of the cynics seem blown away by the picture quality. I watched a clip of the Balrog's appearance in the Moria scene - colors seem spot on, detail level is superb and there's no hint of any DNR or artificial adjustments to the image. How fans will feel about the color changes however will be interesting to see when the discs hit stores on June 28th.

and we're supposed to believe YOU???

IF this is director approved then I agree. It's not a "mistake" per se and won't be retracted or a trade in program offered with a "fixed" version.... but unfortunately until we actually HAVE the discs in hand to compare and have Jackson come out and address the issue it's all speculation

Well, that's not quite the way I would have categorized Bill's way of championing blu-ray disc given it's clear superiority over HD DVD and all of its attending benefits for the videophile/audiophile community.

BTW, it is common practice for vendors to provide free loaner-hardware to review sites... was Bill really whining that Toshiba wouldn't give him a loaner player for keeps?

not really, I just made a comment that I believed Bill Hunt wasn't the end all be all of neutrality when someone made the comment. this was strung along WAY past what it should have been. My only point was that I don't trust Bill to be unbiased so his review I have to take with a grain of salt

ME lying??? bull crap.. believe me he was in EVERY red person's face during the whole format war. there's TONS of posts over on AVS to dredge up on this topic.

You know this is probably the best advice I have read this WHOLE day in this thread.

I think it might be best if I do the same thing you are.

Unless I have to stick around to debunk more lies being spread about Bill Hunt.

well, like I said, I'm not trying to bring back the war so I'll agree to bury the hatchet on that part....

on the last part YES, he actually threw a little hissy fit on camera at one of the debates over Toshiba not giving him a player. it was kinda sad and funny at the same time. Toshiba didn't give him ANYthing... not even a loaner... they basically told him that if he wanted one to go buy one.

but back on topic.... so it was Matt over at AVS who brought up that "green green" comment. Interesting... he's a bit aggressive but he is usually VERY accurate with his interpretations of how a movie looks being that he has some nice comparative equipment

I know what side of the format war he was on. He made that PERFECTLY clear from day one and he always backed up his argument with cold hard facts. For all this talk about him being in every red person's face from day one you CLEARLY have NO idea the kind of threatening and hateful emails he would receive from HD-DVD supporters.

There were only two real instances I can think of where he jumped the gun, BUT both times he admitted it on his website.

well, agree to disagree then on his tactics.... but at the same time you really don't think AMIR or any of the HD DVD supporters didn't get hate mail??? it happens in ANY competitive market. nutjobs on either side will spew hate verbally to any opposition by sending hate mail/email/phone calls. that's part of the territory.....

and just to say. I'm not being some butt hurt red ant who's hating on the blu side (I mean have you SEEN my collection )... I honestly have an issue with Bill and have had one since his dvd days.

Well Amir was protected BIG time by the AVS mods. Bill basically had to get tar and feathered in every forum he went into. With one obvious exception of course ()

Look I am not trying to say Bill Hunt is a god and we should all worship him, but I get tired of reading all of the hateful vitriol directed towards him for (lets face it) just trying to give an honest opinion on somethings. Many people also forget that quite often he is actually on the side of the enthusiasts when he sees disc problems. He griped majorly about DNR on many titles.

Hmm.

Well if these are examples of the color timing "green" issue, at least from these screen grabs, the new image doesn't appear "green" to me, but rather just more neutral versus the overly gold/yellow cast of the former version:

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/208...s-color-issues

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/58593

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/58590

if the projected blu-ray looks like the new screen caps I think I'll be a very happy camper. The overly "gold" look to the former version of the theatrical cut actually bothered me... so a balance towards more neutral will be fine for my viewing tastes.

Frankly, I have a hard time believing that the EE are really THAT much of an improvement of the theatricals. Good lord, if those screencaps are accurate then it looks like we are looking at a dvd of the theatricals.

Its screens like this that are honestly making me quite skeptical of all of these color changes and screen caps floating around.

Agreed. Just look at the skin tones in the one image, they look more natural in the supposedly "green" EE.
