You like the orange-ish tint better? everything looks too bright, especially in Rivendell

So I take it you believe that it's far more logical to believe that the snow in Middle Earth is green than that someone ****ed up the colors on the blu-ray, huh?

Is it because you've all spent so much money on this that you feel the need to bend over backward to defend it?

As for the "burden of proof" nonsense – well, I already gave you one, which you artfully ignored... if the skies (faces, signs, what have you) in Middle Earth are supposed to be green... why aren't they green on the other two films?

It's the original color timing.

It doesn't really matter what I like better, if I could rewind time there are several minor things about the trilogy I'd probably change. I'm not making a personal fan edit version though, that's the difference.

The point is the movies as they were originally shown had a huge impact on the viewers that watched them and on film history - to me it makes the most sense to preserve the movies as they were originally presented in the highest quality possible.

I personally don't like the green tint, in my opinion it completely throws off the "feel" of several areas. How I feel personally is not the most important thing though, the fact that it's not the original color timing is. The scenes that were created with the original color timing in mind now have a completely different feel to them. Many scenes that were specificaly created to look and feel "warm" are no longer warm... the list goes on and on. If you prefer this I'm happy for you, unfortunately it doesn't work the same for me.

In these case they do.
Screen-shots specifically.

Oh, I wasn't aware that all films shot throughout 2010 show a weird green haze.

I know about color manipulation, and I still say its not uniformly tweaked, but done scene by scene. There's no other explanation for such drastic changes in some scenes and very little in others.

The best quote form that review:

"And it’s not like this is the only film where we have seen this kind of treatment – movies across the last decade, from Aliens to The Matrix, have all had varying levels of colour correction and colour timing changes applied. Some fans love it, some hate it, some hate it on general principle, and others don’t even care – and wouldn’t have even noticed were it not pointed out to them."

Of course Jackson could end all the debate with a you tube video stating he changed the color on TFOTR if you don't like it don't buy it. wonder if he will?

There were other changes, like they used CGI to make Arwen's butt 10 times bigger, but only when she is facing the camera, so the audience never sees it. Still, I'm sure this may affect whether or not some fans purchase the set.

He already did (in the intro to the movie night on Tues).

We know he meant to change the color timing, we just don't know if the blu-ray is accurate to what he changed.

I canceled my order...for now. Not crazy about the greenish tint. Just don't like it. I can live with my DVD ext editions. The audio is still rather great on the dvds. Really bummed out about this as FOTR-EE is in my top 5 films of all time.

The best quote from that review:

"Here, it appears that none of that object-specific detailing has been done, with a blanket filter applied to the entire movie. Saruman the White looks like he's standing under one of Bruckheimer's CSI filters, his skin looking a tiny bit jaundiced."

Then why are you buying the extended editions? The theatrical editions are the way they were originally presented and the official versions of the films.

Once again, why? Why should we accept those changes? Just because they are approved or even dictated by the creator? Then we should just accept the new FRENCH CONNECTION transfer or the revisited STAR WARS and be mum about it? And I am not getting into how inaccurate would be to regard Jackson, Friedkin or Lucas as "creators" of those films; movies are "created" in a much more collective way.

As stated before, I don't claim to give or deny permission for those changes, but I don't have to like them or live with them, if that's what you mean by "accept".

There's nothing wrong in voicing my dislike, or even to hope that it may be heard and taken into account. And, hopefully, get us a presentation that is faithful to the original, and not the product of any after-the-fact revisionism.

(and please, don't give me that cheap loophole of the extended edition not being the originals, either; that's as lazy as falacious)

Hmm, if white looks green with this new "tint", then why didn't the reviewer call him Saruman the Green? Because he's stilll white, and its not as bad as everyone is claiming.

Had this EE Blu Ray had no green tint, no one would care now. Fellowship is an Academy Award winning film for its cinematography.
