When you pre-order you get it for the cheapest price between the date you ordered and the release date.

So if the price goes up (I've never seen that happen) you'll still pay $83.99. If it goes down cheaper at anytime between now and release date, you'll pay the cheapest price it dropped to.

I`ll do as always ;

wait to see reviews about PQ/AQ ... then decide about ordering. Learned from Gladiator.

On Amazon it states that there are 15 discs in this set. So that's 9 DVDs of special features, the 3 movies on Blu-ray. What are the extra discs?

Someone mentioned this earlier and I pray they're dead wrong, but I won't be surprised that when the end of time comes and Lawrence Of Arabia is finally released to blu-ray, it'll be split too because the idea of customer convenience appears to be lost.
What the heck are you talking about?!

Nope, never seen your comments. Do you have a following online or something? You're talking about end of days and Lawrence of Arabia. Get over it.

I agree with this, but at the same time I want whatever is best for this set to make it the best it can possibly be, even if that means being split across two discs each.

Sacrificing PQ and AQ for the sake of not going through with putting the work in seems to be the trend here. Putting them on one or two discs isn't something that should be up for a debate, if the movie will fit on one, fine, but I am willing to bet if would be much better on two(go look at the TE reviews, it wasn't perfect). A BD collection of films with more DVDs than BDs says to me one thing, it isn't a BD collection at all, but a collection of stuff I already have on DVD and 80 dollars for 6 discs of questionable quality.

Keep in mind, this isn't just some trilogy on movie, it is THE trilogy. In lit. and on screen these films are some of the best moviemaking out there, and it is depressing as hell to see a studio skimp out if that is indeed what is happening.

Bummer...

And for what it is worth, amazon is never right, on things that are released in stores they can't get specs correct and pictures right.

I remember bringing this up a year or so ago when discussing LOTR on blu... It looks like they will have the green/red/blue incorporated in the print package design, but I cannot tell if the corresponding BD cases will be g/r/b. Kinda hope so.

I think I'll just wait for a bare bones edition. I have the original versions of the EE on DVD and separate Blus of the theatrical versions. I don't need more extras or digital copies.

Why not sell the EE DVDs and seperate blus, and put the money towards the EE blus?

As others have mentioned, it wasn't compression that made the theatrical blu-rays not so great. It was the fact that some scenes received a heavy amount of DNR.

Right now, I say if the movies will fit on one disc, great. If not, I don't really care about having to change discs. I just want the movies in HD (without all the DNR).

The split over 2 discs is disruptive. The intermission doesn't belong there, it's really forced. From what I've heard, the theatrical editions didn't take up all the room on the discs, so the extended ones should fit so we can see the films as they were meant to be seen. If they had been filmed with the intermission in mind, it would be different. It's not laziness; it's wanting to see the film as a whole without an annoying break which is not the same as pressing pause.

the three films weren't ever going to be put on a single disc... they were going to be put on a single disc *per each* film (one disc per movie)
