I had a similar thread but the only question I ever got was someone who had accidentally wandered into my thread and needed directions to your thread.

Two questions:

1) Does this release contain both the theatrical and extended editions of the films?

2) Has that horrible green cast mentioned a few pages back made it's way to the final release?

1: No, just the EE.

2: Yes, the new green/teal/cyan/whatever heavy color timing will be in the final release (of FotR only, not the other two.)

3: I am preemptively answering faster than Todd Smith, boy will his face be red.

1) This release is just the EE.

2) Unfortunately, yes.

Edit: Stinky beat me to it

We should've seen it coming:

http://www.lordoftherings.net/

The trailer (which was up waay before the first screencaps appeared on the internet - I think I've had it on my hard drive since May 9) features the new color grading, complete with the green/blue tint.

This is from the trailer about 1m15s in:

and right after that (still the trailer):

Rivendell view (still the trailer, just a few seconds before) looks kind of like the screencaps, too:

They have a few more clips, one of which (clip 3) doesn't feature the tint:

That's too simplistic. If people who are complaining about a mold-covered "Fellowship" didn't already like and covet the film, they (we) wouldn't be reading this thread to begin with.

We DO like "the shirt"... we just don't care to buy it with a giant green splotch down the back.

Just a thought.
There's a discussion thread on PJ's facebook page on the topic.

http://www.facebook.com/PeterJackson...57&topic=17416

Hopefully everyone who would like PJ to set the story straight will politely add to the discussion.

Should we be too worried yet? How close to release is the manufacturing usually done? Could it just be that review copies were released with the green tint and the final production run "may" wind up being ok? Regardless, I don't see this ending without the likelyhood of an exchange program or something coming along in the worst case scenario.

Complaining might bother people who feel protective for whatever reason about a product or brand name, but much of the time it causes the source of the complaints to be fixed. It serves a more important purpose than just venting frustration. If it annoys you it's probably more reasonable for you to ignore the complaints rather than to expect the complainers to ignore the product.
That's because Gladiator was an inferior transfer. Nothing about FOTR is inferior, especially is it is approved by the cinematographer and presumably the director. All the complaining in the world won't get you the original releases of Star Wars either... so its pretty silly at this point. If there is a legitimate REASON to complain, like the DNR in Patton, Gangs of NY or Gladiator that was NOT approved by the filmmakers, then yes. But not in this case.

Ironically enough, my caring about the issue does not hurt you at all, but your not caring does indeed hurt my chances of getting the issue fixed.

But that's the way the world works, I guess. People who don't care and can't be bothered to move their asses to do anything about anything always benefit from the work and efforts from those who care enough to do something about it.
I do not believe you understood what I was saying...

I do not like the green tint I have seen in the screencaps. However, that is a decision that belongs to PJ and WB. If it is a mistake, then they should fix it, if it is how they want the film to look, then that is their choice. Nothing I can do will hurt WB more than my refusal to spend money on something I do not want. If I do not like it, I will not spend my money which hurts them more than anything I could say. And as far as the VHS reference, it is competition that drives the marketplace. Every company is constantly trying to improve the quality of their product. There will eventually be something better than blu ray.

I do care about the movies I purchase. As of now, I will not buy this edition of LOTR until I know something definate from PJ. The biggest complaint one can make is to not give them your money. And, as I did say, it is just a movie. There are far more important things in my life than a Blu Ray disc.

I do appreciate your response. Lets hope we learn something soon about this mess. Was it intended,, or a screw up?

Why would that change your mind? You either like it or you dont'! Not sure what a director saying "Yes that's the way I intended it"...has anything to do with anything.

I agree with you here except on one thing - that there will be something better than blu-ray as far as physical media goes. I think blu-ray is the pinnacle of the physical disc technology. Or, maybe I should say Im done with this and will not be rebuying any films again on some new super-zonker format if they try it.

If there was a mistake, it can be fixed. If there wasn't a mistake, then there is no use fighting what cannot be changed. Get it? No one is going to all of a sudden like the new color timing because Peter Jackson approved it.

I understand what you are saying. Yes we like the shirt, (LOTR) .... and we do not want the green spot on it... I agree. If they goofed, then they should fix it.... However, if this is what was intended, then I do not think it will be changed. In that case, withold your money. We can talk all we want, but the real voice is Dollars. Money talks.

Higher definition would only be beneficial to large displays. Market penetration will be very hard, I mean how often do you see someone with 100" screen in his house.

According to the Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, in the future we will have entire walls for television sets. Sounds awesome, aside from all the fascism the story also asserts.

LOL I LOVE that the OFFICIAL trailer clearly shows the new color grading. But I thought it was all an error?

Seems entirely possible.

But my point was that only a few can afford and enthuistic enough to buy such a large display.

First post... I guess this issue is bringing me out of my shell. Anyway, a question for the experts:

If I am disappointed and concerned about the coloring issues on FOTR, what should I as a consumer do to encourage a "fix"... (A) cancel my preorder and wait for a better release, (B) keep my preorder and demand WB make it "right" by issuing a replacement? Is decreased sales or increased negative feedback the more powerful motivator?
