Deal with it, seriously.

Really, if people like you would limit themselves to just state where they stand on the matter and the reasoning behind it, instead of insisting on telling those who don't agree with you to "shut up", "stop whining" or "deal with it", it would be much easier for everybody here to keep the debate on civil terms.

I can't wait to get this set. The EE's are some of my all time favorite films. TTT Extended is just perfect imo, love the mood of it.

I could say/type the most civil thing about it the debate. If dissatisfied with the colour for The Fellowship of the Ring don't buy the set. Or if still dissatisfied and would rather wait patiently for a disc exchange program, i.e. GLADIATOR, go for it. But there are those who're gonna buy it anyway but have far more important things to take care of with their money first and will gradually get more impatient for the pricing to go down to finally purchase it. Oh wait, that'd be me. Especially since I'm not spending any of my extra money on anymore Blu-rays, save for the occasional random ones, until I get this "project" finished.
Three out of possibly 7 or more done. Can't decide on whether or not to have one or two 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB cache HDDs yet for it. The HTPC/Gaming/random other stuff which is going to leave my current pre-built in the dust and hey, it'll also be my multi-region, Region B, player!

I honestly don't see what the big fuss is about. I would've rather had each film on their own BD100, which unfortunately is never becoming a reality, and the extras still in 480p where need be on a BD50. Far better space saving.
Pass! For now.

You could probably fix the problem yourself by going into "Standard" or "Vivid/Sport" mode on your TV.

What if they have their display calibrated? Or could be tinting adjustment most likely. I never change the settings on my display at all since I know every single film isn't supposed to look the same. But with someone who has extreme OCD for picture quality/EVERYTHING MUST LOOK LIKE AVATAR mentality, they'd go apeshit.
Yet again New Line/WB might fix this by the time I finally get around to purchasing this. If not and if it's a mail-in replacement program, still doesn't matter I'm still buying this.

Canceled from Best Buy today. Even on the last page the Fellowship pic that was posted had Gandalf's robe and Sam's jacket with a subtle hint of green. I just can't do it for $80 day one. Was bad enough just having 9 dvds thrown into the set that everyone already owned. At this point, I'm not even sure I'd want this set for $30 sometime next year; unless an announcement is made to replace the disc by then.

I haven't watched the films in well over 4 or 5 years, in anticipation of one day viewing them all in extended format on blu-ray. I'll be damned if I have that spoiled by someone's ****up. I could care less if Jackson mentioned it was his decision, I'd tell him he ****ed up too.

I didn't buy Gladiator til after the trade in announcement was made, even though the studio continued saying the original was perfect, they were just doing the PQ video-philes a favor by printing an entirely different disc and allowing them to send it in for trade. Whatever you have to tell yourself. Oh and Thanks.

In my view, I think that these changes make the films look better. My wife and I are way excited to get this. Of course, a marathon of all 3 movies one saturday will be required

I got my copy on Friday. I finished watching FOTR yesterday and the green tint is definitely there. The screenshots make it look really obvious compared to the theatrical blu ray release. But when you watch the entire movie, it wasn't as distracting as I thought it would be. I'm guessing it was suppose to be the night shots that had the tint to it because it looks sharper, more detailed now and it wasn't obvious the green tint wasn't there. But maybe WB messed up and added the green tint to the entire movie instead of selected scenes. Either way, this is the best video transfer yet for FOTR, it's just up to you guys to decide how distracting the green tint is for you guys. Right now I'd probably give the video score a B+. I'd give it an A- but the issue is there and lower the score a little bit.

Here's a detailed video of the package I took:

Should it? Do we know for a fact that was a pure white shirt?

According to the poster, the shirt measured 178 195 168. First of all, that means that there's only 6.6% more green than red, although 10.5% more green than blue. Furthermore, if the values had been even, let's say 178 178 178 or 168, 168, 168, the shirt would have been a shade of grey. You HAVE to have different color values if you want to see color. If the shirt was close to pure white, the values should have been closer to 245 245 245 or so (absolute white would have been 255, 255, 255), but if those values are the correct ones, that would mean that not only is the green off, but so is the red and blue.

And, at least in the "shirt" screen shot, the flesh tones look correct to me.

If you bought a Corvette, and six months later, GM came and swapped your V8 for a four cylinder, you would be ok with that, if they told you they always intended that for the vette? That's how this green tint (and the Star Wars original theatrical) debacle feels to me. We aren't getting the original product. I don't care what WB (or GL) want now. I want what I initially experienced.

But everyone didn't originally experience the same thing due to prints made in different labs and the quality of projection varying considerably from theatre to theatre. Many theatres turn down the brightness of their projection lamps under the mistaken notion that it will save them electricity.

A big film like LOTR usually doesn't use one lab for all prints. And even when they do, prime theatres may get better prints than other theatres. Even in digital presentation, the quality of the lenses on the projectors varies greatly from theatre to theatre.

I used to consult for a major film equipment company and one of the things I did was go to theatres on opening day and evaluate the technical presentation, both in regards to print quality and in regards to the theatre's presentation. If a film was playing in a multiplex, we'd have to evaluate on all screens and I can tell you that each screen in the multiplex was a completely different experience every time.

So the people who saw it in a green tinted theater will be happy!

As different as this green push? Sorry, but no.

And, besides, that's a moot point. Should we be okay with this alteration only because every theatre projection is also different to some extent?

That's tantamount to telling us to accept any product and any quality deviation, just because it's a different experience for each persona anyway.

for, very few folks are aware of such a geeky nuance as that and it will certainly perk his interest in the fact that you mention it and are an apparent fan of both his past as well as his upcoming filmmaking.

Just a thought.
Well, PJ updated his facebook page today with updates on The Hobbit casting & finishing the first block of shooting.

Hopefully he is aware of the keen interest in the topic and will address.

It's so hard for me to pick a favorite, but TTT does have one of my favorite scenes.

The dialogue, the visuals, and the music are like cinematic poetry. Incredibly beautiful, in my opinion. The more quiet scenes tend to get lost in the spectacle of others, but I think almost all of my favorite moments are the more intimate ones like this.

If naysayers respected the director's wishes (given that he and the cinematographer approved this change), there wouldn't even be a debate.

In addition, no one even saw these in the theater because they are the Extended Editions. The theatricals look just like they played in theaters. PJ has repeatedly made the claim that these are different films, and, apparently he wants them to look different.

Yea, right. I'm going to watch this movie with a piece of white paper next to the image and use that to decide whether or not this is a good transfer.

I see little point in reading this thread anymore. It has most definitely passed over into twilight zone territory.
See you all on the other side in some of the other threads.
