Yes......here is one from this morning that I read over at HDD........

"I watched the entire film. The green tint isn't normally strong enough to be noticeable, or at least bothersome to me, but there are most definitely extensive scenes where its unpleasant. The entire battle in the forrest at the end of the film looked incredibly dull, desaturated and just off. The blue sky showing through the trees isn't even blue anymore.
I mentioned earlier that rather than appearing to be carefully applied color timing, this seems more like someone fiddled with the master Hue/Saturation control and just hit "make file". Looking at how the "fade to white" is now "fade to green", how Mark's OCD (in a good way) analysis of the film shows a green tint everywhere, and how even the credits have the new green bias indicates that this is *not* an adjustment to the movie's color grading.
Re-timing the color for a film involves sitting down and going through the entire film, shot by shot, and carefully analyzing each scene. Adjustments are carefully applied to compliment the emotional impact of individual sequences and even individual shots. Color timing is also skillfully applied to help convey things like time of day, season, and even temperature. Getting the color timing perfected for a film is a long and creative process.

What we're seeing with FOTR is about 20 seconds worth of Hue/Saturation adjustment, *not* color timing.

And frankly - and I say this as a fan of his work - Peter Jackson cannot be counted upon to deliver us the very best LOTR product. Supposedly he had seen the Theatrical Edition Blu-Rays and thought they looked great. Er... FOTR Theatrical had substantial DNR and wasn't anywhere near a high quality release. The fine grain retention and incredible detail in the new FOTR EE Blu-Ray proves just what a mess the Theatrical one was. So this whole "Oh Peter Jackson might say so" stuff is.. of limited value. Sometimes a film maker's approval is just polish on the turd."

Even the credits have this new green bias? This sounds intentional to some people?

How do you know that? Different people react vastly differently to colors so you absolutely can't generalize this.

I even know people who weren't bothered by the grossly overbrightened first Stargate release and never saw anything wrong with it - and even when shown the remastered second release they still didn't understand.

Of course someone with such low sensitivity to color balance will never ever find anything wrong with the FOTR EE. (Consider yourself lucky if you fall in that camp. )

I, however found that first Stargate version beyond awful, even with having no decent reference. By brain just tried to tell me in every scene that something was off. The movie became completely unwatchable for me. It was just painful.

The green here does the same for me, albeit not as massively pronounced as Stargate - even when watching the Youtube clips fullscreen on my TV (yes, I know their quality is atrocious but this is about color, not detail and that gets reproduced properly.)

And what about the credits? IF true that the credits are even green and at the same time still white in TT and ROTK, would that not suggest a possible issue?

Can someone else who has the actual discs confirm/deny if even the credits are green in FOTR? Also, are the credits still white in TT and ROTK?

Thanks

That gives me another idea:

Maybe it was intended for the menu but when mastering the actual film afterward it was forgotten to reset the master hue setting to neutral...

This would be awesome, because it would seem like it would be about as easy a fix as you could get.

Agreed! I think he was just speculating (that quote was not from me which is clear I hope), but man it would be so awesome if a simple tweak could correct this!

Default easiest fix of all :x :D

Well the easiest would be to watch totally in the dark, and after a few minutes your eyes would remove most of the cyan~green tint.

Great review by Ralph at AVS where he confirms the green coloring and expresses his thoughts on the matter................

I forgot to mention this, but I really disliked the sequence in FotR at the cinema with the sea creature or whatever attacking the Fellowship. It was too dark to make out everything completely. I hope it was just another theatrical presentation with dimmed brightness.

I'd guess he meant the end credits. I remember them being insanely long after the EE, something approaching 30 minutes (not sure if it's the same with the new BD version.)

Just recently, yes. But even the new trailer on the official site has the new color timing. So what are we betting?

No offense to RAH, but that one post does not make me feel any better or worse about this release with everything we have seen and read up to this point.
No, it's not just an opinion. It's an opinion from someone who is one of the most pre-eminent film restoration experts in the world and is responsible for the restoration of Lawrence of Arabia, Spartacus and The Godfather, among others. He knows of what he speaks.

So his opinion is worth far, far more, than my opinion or your opinion or the opinion of haters, trolls, fanboys or well-intentioned people who actually don't know what they're talking about but know enough to be dangerous. Now if there was a professional mastering technician on here or a professional color timer, I would also value their opinion highly.

Now that doesn't mean you have to buy the set based on his opinion. Obviously, if you think a screenshot that appears to be greenish will kill your enjoyment of the film, don't buy it. But I trust him a lot more than I trust just about anyone else on here. A few frame examples does not a movie make.

i'm not going to go through 100 plus pages, can anyone tell me if pictures of the US set have been posted. Like someone who actually has it because I just want the films already regardless of any flaws and would like to see the packaging

This doesn't apply to A/V, it only applies to hand to hand combat and gynecology.

Thank you. Main Title is gold.

End Credit roll is pure white on pure black.
