It's a safer approach. You're also less likely to look at it a few years down the line and think "What was I smoking?". Whatever. I won't let this stuff affect my purchase decision. What I will let affect it is the cost. I already spent around 60-70 bucks on each of these movies. Movie tickets, 2-disc DVDs, 4-disc EE DVDs. I am not going to buy them again until they are all under 20 bucks. Especially since they were too lazy to even port the features over to Blu-ray discs, and instead just apparently re-printed the Appendices discs I already own.
Ice is more likely to appear blu under certain light than it would ever appear green.

The Lord of the Rings Official Facebook linked to The Digital Bits review about an hour ago and made no reference to the color timing issue. For those of you hoping for an exchange program, myself included, this should give you a clear indication of what Warner Bros. plans to do about this. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to admit any errors.

I can't believe I'd be in a situation where I might not be buying the EE of the LOTR on BD. I thought of this as a format defining release. I'm not a fan of the "green" colour grading though... and unless I hear Peter Jackson himself say "this is what I intended" I won't be buying these discs.

I think directors are far too liberal with the coloured filters... I don't need a blue or green tint to tell me how I should feel about a particular scene.

Brings up a good point. I'm curious as to what the green tint is supposed to convey. I'm sure the filmmakers on this board can tell us.

The million dollar question: WHY?

That's hardly surprising, it's an official arm of the WB marketing machine whose purpose is to drum up interest in the property and eventually to move product. Linking to a review that was not as flattering, or that dealt with the controversy in greater detail, would be a bad business move. Even if a replacement program is quietly put into place it's not as if they're going to stop trying to sell copies in the meantime. That is the business they're in, after all.

Just read the Digital Bits review about an hour ago and it was glowing using words like breath-taking. Probably already posted a few pages back, but anyway ....

Considering Bill Hunt's review dealt purely with the images he saw --- and at no point tried to compare to the previous DVD EE's color palette.

Yeah, from every reviewer the PQ and detail is supposed to be amazing on this thing. It's the color timings which has certain people in an uproar -- and several reviewers have pretty much said it's non-noticable when the films are playing, and only really a problem if your trying to compare to the previous dvd version.

Ha, I was about to say the same thing. I cannot stand when people can't differentiate between fantasy and sci-fi, lumping them into the same category

Do hobbits ride tiny horses? I'm actually more bothered by the potential size discrepancy here

For anyone not following the AVS thread they have comparison pics/measurements of the 3 title screens for each film.......and the credits for FOTG have been confirmed to not be white (more toward blue than green for some reason).

Hint: It's in the film "A Christmas Story" and stars with a V.

Thanks Vel, Yes I understand about the color timing issue those have been complaining about on the last several pages, and to tell you the truth I'm not pleased with the green veil either in those screen grabs. Looking right now for alternate reviews stating that it's non-issue unless you sit there freezing frames and doing side-by-sides ...
