Well, I haven't really bothered to track the "green tint debate" (way too many pages on it), but I'm hoping its either a pressing error, or that its not noticable when the film is playing. Either way, the fact that I already have half the set's content (the DVD Appendices) plays a crucial part in my decision to wait for a substantial price drop.

I see you own the Ultimate Matrix Collection. Are you holding out hope for a "fixed" release for the first Matrix film, as well? The revisionist timing on the BD (and Special Edition DVD) transfer for The Matrix is WAY more severe than Fellowship's seems to be. Talk about green push! haha

I agree with all the green tint negative opinions regarding the film. I hate it when the director believes he can go back and change the original version.
Did anyone see that terrible alien blu-ray transfer. They never should have done it, now it's so detailed. Alien was never meant to be a detailed filmed..I think I will keep my old VHS version, thank you very much Ridley Scott. What about Apocalypse Now, the colors are unforgiving, co vibrant, Francis Ford Coppola what where you thinking!!! PS. Jim your not much better, the old color timing of Aliens actually benefited the film. now it's just nice and clean and colorful. BLU-RAY - YOU HAVE DESTROYED MY CHILDHOOD! |

I also just realized that this set doesn't port over any of the features from the 2-Disc DVDs. It's too bad CdL didn't handle the set. I see no valid excuse why they didn't condense the four discs of extras for each movie (2nd disc of initial DVDs, 3rd and 4th of EE, 2nd of the LEs) each onto their own disc. 9 BDs, not 6 BDs and 9 DVDs. Also, the Costa Botes docs still not being anamorphic is pretty lazy. Back to CdL, he went back and reframed all of the Alien Quadrilogy documentaries in 16x9 for the Blu-ray.

Haha what..millions??? millions? No fecking way this set has millions of pre-orders considering it's only really a LOTR 'fan' favourite. Most regular consumers want only the TE's and that is where the largest number of units comes from, not niche people on blu-ray communities.
Maybe in a year this set would sell that much worldwide on blu. MAYBE. ![]() Last edited by riverbelow; 06-21-2011 at 07:40 AM. |

What mastering studio is responsible for this edition?
Dont they watch their discs before they goes to bluray factory? Or maybe it was a pizza delivery boy who accidently put his pizza on the "green tint all" button, you know, that biggest button on the mastering equippment ![]() |

Well, I have to say that RAH's attempt at 'satire' is the most disappointing thing that happened here. One of the most pathetically failed attempts at humor I read recently.
Concerning the link to the Thedigitalbits review, what do you expect? Of course they link to a review that unscrupulously glosses over the issue and showers the release in glowing praise. But that's to expect from people who'd stand to lose a lot of money if more people are made aware of the issues here. Rest assured, there won't be any statement whatsoever unless the presumably defective batch of discs has been sold. All the current actions from both Warner and the filmmakers strongly suggest that they want to keep a lid on this issue as long as possible. Even publicly admitting that the green tint was intentional would cost them a lot of preorders I believe. |

While I'm just as bothered as most are about the green/teal/cyan push, I'm kind of afraid that many people are going to end up nitpicking the movie to death. By that I mean being bothered by scenes that look like they're affected, but aren't. Just to show a few examples:
![]() ![]() ![]() These images look affected by the green tint, but actually aren't much different than how they already appeared. Also remember that while looking at screenshots, we end up analyzing the entire thing, but when you actually watch the movie, your eyes are focused on a specific part. Like in this image, the sky in the right corner looks pretty ugly, but your eyes are supposed to be focused on Frodo, so you really shouldn't even notice it in this shot. ![]() Edit: I think this is the first time I ever really noticed the Hobbit feet. ![]() https://images.blu-ray.com/reviews/4424_9_1080p.jpg Last edited by gregmasciola; 06-21-2011 at 08:02 AM. |

This is a comparison between the theatrical edition vs the extended edition. Both have been converted to MP4 for frame-by-frame accuracy (but, as far as I can tell, look identical to the BD as viewed in XBMC 10.1).
It obviously comes from the end credits: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/60957 There are 7 frames total, from black to full brightness. Interestingly, the difference is most noticeable at the beginning of the fade in; once full brightness is reached the difference persists but is much less noticeable. |
