![]() I agree that in that scene it's far less intrusive but Rivendell is supposed to have a red hue. The green cancels much of that out, making the image look dull and flat. Even without any reference my brain just wants to tell me that something is missing here. About the rest of your images, logically a green tint in predominantly green scenes is not going to change much. But that still doesn't change that there's several scenes where it's immensely intrusive. For me it's not so much the snow on the mountains that's the most objectionable but everything from Hobbiton. The tone of that sequence is completely obliterated by the green. It was supposed to be a joyful and happy place but now it's all dull and dreary and dark. |

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I need to know this:
FOTR has been remastered with the EE. What about TT and ROTK? Have they been remastered as well or they have the same transfer as the theatrical release + Extended scenes? Have the audio been improved on the 3 films as well? |

TTT and ROTK already existed as 2K digital masters so there was no need to redo anything.

But the interesting part is the green tint appears to go away as the credit reaches full brightness. Well, mostly it does go away.... HOWEVER... I measured the color of the fully bright credit text for the EE Blu-ray. The characters in "directed by" measure as grey in a green color space! They are far more grey than green (the green isn't visible) but they come up in a green color space nonetheless. The larger characters in "Peter Jackson" measure as grey in a blue color space. Why they are different is beyond me. But the fact that this stills were taken from a video (rather than directly from the discs) probably isn't helping the consistency. So.... The EE Blu-ray end credits do display some level of green tint, if even for a short moment. The TE Blu-ray end credits don't display a similar tint. Mark |

Thought I should put this post by 42041 up again. For those of you that are new and haven´t been following this debate or even those currently defending the colour changes of fotr/right of PJ to change the colours of his film, it quite elegantly demonstrates why a lot of us are unhappy with the consistent green tint running throughout the fellowship of the ring extended edition blu-ray and believe it to be a mistake rather than a creative choice by Peter Jackson/Andrew Lesnie:
Using that white transition as a reference point, I put a bunch of screencaps in one image and applied the same white-balance to them. I really get the feeling PJ's new color grading and the new teal coloration are separate phenomena. original caps: http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/5...iginallotr.jpg balanced to that white transition: http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/3...lancedlotr.jpg original: http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/7521/originallotr2.jpg balanced: http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/864/balancedlotr2.jpg Last edited by kingkong650; 06-21-2011 at 11:30 AM. |

And this is the comparison between the extended edition fotr blu-ray and the theatrical edition fotr blu-ray that many considered the ´Smoking Gun`. Many of us were unhappy with the green tint but uncertain whether it ran throughout the fotr ee blu-ray or not, until we saw this comparison. The fade to white before Frodo wakes up in rivendell that has now become the fade to green in the fotr ee blu-ray:

Maybe I will eat my words further down the road, but the more I look at the many screencaps, the less I am inclined to accept that overwhelming, underexposed green layer as intentional.
It is not just that it's ugly, it's simply wrong and unprofessional. |

I absolutely agree. I don't work on projects near this scale, but I take an OCD level of quality control to anything that I put to disc or broadcast.

I'm working with computer software, and have pretty much the same attitude. Sadly, it's often a fight against windmills because the Powers That Be are insistent on cutting costs and rushing things through to save a tiny amount of money - and often it comes back with a vengeance costing them a lot more. Will they ever learn?

I'm perfectly fine if they do it to selected area within a frame or selected scenes where appropriate. But it seems like they just right-click on the film > "SELECT ALL" > "APPLY GREEN". I mean, maybe it's intentional but they're just very lazy in doing it that even the title is green?
