Your right. I forgot it was a download.

I was really looking forward to getting this, but I'm not wealthy, so I use the information available here and elsewhere on the internet to make an informed judgement on whether or not to buy this and other blu-rays. To me, that is the main reason to peruse this and other sites, so I can determine if I will be satisfied with my purchase before I spend my hard earned dollar.
BS! You have made up your mind admitting so based on a few stills & clips that you are not 100% certain where they have come from. Ken's review was far from scathing while several other reviewers have stated that in motion this so called green tint is not as pronounced as in the stills. My only gripe is making an uninformed decision without actually watching the movie in motion on your home theater, not frame by frame on your computer or some friggin you tube clip! Times are tough for sure no doubt so borrow the movie from a friend, rent it, take out a copy from a library but if you love the movie for the love of pete, for a release of this magnitude, watch the motion picture in motion and then make an informed decision based on the fact of your own eyes.

I have been thinking about how I could make a real first person decision on this before buying it, and I think I just figured it out! My local BB has a Magnolia room. I would hope that they had at least an "almost" calibrated tv in there. I could go in there next Tuesday and ask them to show it to me. I would absolutely love to do that!

Bro that is a fantastic idea! If you get a sales person that is cool no doubt they would want to take it for a spin. BTW, DVD Movie Guide just posted a review very interesting, can't seem to copy the link with the IPad what can I say not that computer savvy, just google for the link.

I wonder if I should dress up real nice and give off an air of "I might be interested in a new A/V setup" kind of vibe.
Even though LotR may not be reference quality video, it is very colorfully diverse, and I would love to hear the lossless 6.1 discreet DTS-MA. I personally thought that the EE DVD sounded much better than the TE DVD.

I would expect the EE BD to have a much more dynamic, engulfing audio just like the DVDs (only lossless & clearer).

No wonder his system was overwhelmed by the bass - it says his sub is the 150-watt Kenwood 1050SW.

Has anyone attended the theatrical screenings of the extended editions so far? Reason I'm asking is because I'm pretty sure that these are the editions that we will be playing in our bluray players next week and I must say FOTR and Two Towers looked phenomenal! I didn't notice any abnormal green tints in FOTR. I poked fun in some of my past posts, but seriously, the films look sensational so far... I hope Peter Jackson's introductions are included. He does mention the bluray set coming out next week in the intros, so pretty sure what we see on the screen at the show will be what we get on the blurays!

For the most part, in a suitably dark viewing environment, you won't notice the green tint all that much. (In a home theater or, if the tinting appears on the theatrical prints, especially in a dark theater.) As someone far wiser than I put it today, the eye and brain instinctively identify near-white as white and adjust accordingly; very quickly in fact, within minutes of starting a film. (Yes, that was severely paraphrased. His expert explanation was far more elaborate, detailed and convincing. I wish I had a digital recorder rolling so I could quote him word for word )

The tint is there when the film is playing, and looks just as it appears in the screenshots. The difference is that the screenshots are being viewed in browser windows where crisp whites are everywhere, and screenshot comparisons are a click away to show how the tint affects certain colors. When the film is in motion, it's much more difficult to discern the tint unless you know exactly what to look for. Even then, it's the more problematic scenes that have the potential to be distracting. Not the entire film. (The most noticeable instance IMO is when the Hobbits try to stop for second breakfast as Aragorn prods them to keep moving. The snow and skintones are noticeably tinted. But even that may have a bit of intention to it, as the next scenes find the Hobbits descending into murky, intentionally swampy-hued swamps and other locales as night falls.)

The reason many are reporting they aren't seeing the tint is because without a pure white reference or original color reference, it can be difficult to see the tinting in a dark viewing environment. It's difficult to unsee too, though, meaning those it bothers will be bothered throughout the film while those it doesn't bother will not be bothered throughout the film.

That doesn't make it any more director's intention or any more an error, it's just the nature of a slight color tinting discrepancy. We'll have to wait for Warner or Jackson to address the tinting before drawing any further conclusions.

Also, someone please make me a mod. Those who "complain about the complainers" and try to discourage discussion of the issues will be shot on sight

No surprise to me, that price was rumored weeks ago. I was EXPECTING it to be that price. I'm glad Best Buy didn't disappoint.

Of course, at this point, I don't plan to buy it. But my friend that is a LOTR expert is absolutely getting it (he's aware of the green tint controversy). I plan to go to his house to view (portions) of FOTR on his 65" LED-backlit Samsung on Tuesday or Wednesday. Then I can make my decision. With Best Buy having a pretty decent price, I can afford to wait and not worry about placing and order with Amazon.

Multiple people that saw FOTR in the theater last week claim that the theatrical showing was green tint free. A few have claimed they saw the green tint in the theatrical showing.
