Anyway, it seems odd to me that there's still no response from WB or PJ. Even the most cautious of PR reps could've cooked something up to diffuse the controversy pending an official stance... Last edited by Stinky-Dinkins; 06-24-2011 at 03:04 AM. |

I love Ken's review/approach as well. However, Robert was not providing a review. Per his tagline it's "a few words" .... no comprehensive review done as of yet that I could see at HTF.

Wow, I watched a movie, then come back here and people have been suspended again. I told everyone to play nice. Why can't we all get along? We don't have to agree with each other to be civil.
Anyway, it's starting to look like we're not going to hear from PJ or WB before the release date, what with it being just a few days away. I kind of didn't expect to hear anything before that anyway. It could hurt sales, but I do think it would be the nice thing to do. Surely they are aware of the buzz about this. I just hope we hear something soon either way. |

Now, back to my troll-like nitpicking....
Comparison time.... This time, instead of comparing screenshots, let's compare videos clips ![]() The battle between Aragorn and Lurtz of the Uruk-hai! One of the great fight scenes in FOTR! The first clip was taken from the extended edition Blu-ray. I have confirmed this with the person that uploaded the clip to YouTube. This is one of the uglier green-tinted scenes in the movie. I've shared it before: FOG AND MIST ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE GREEN! It's unnatural and it pulls the attentive viewer out of the scene because it looks stupid. Now, compare that one to this one... Same scene (just a little bit of extra footage at the beginning). This one was ripped by the same guy. I have confirmed with him that it was taken from the THEATRICAL edition of the FOTR Blu-ray. He did this one at 1080p so you can watch it in either 720p or 1080p. Look at that!! The fog/mist is white, NOT green. Yet, there is still plenty of green to be found in the scene. Only, its stuff that is SUPPOSED to be green. And, oh... check it out... the few glimpses you get of the sky in the background.... it's actually BLUE! Imagine that! Mark |

Moderator brutality! Just kidding......Seriously though, my agrument is more of a "general distain" for the constant and overuse of color grading and even using certain types of film. What I call the depressed, grunge look......be it by color grading or the film stock itself. I do believe there are way too many in Hollywood that need to be on anti-depressants. It's one thing when we see it in Saving Private Ryan or The Matrix, but there are just way too many films that sport these skewed looks. I picked up the new True Grit and watched it the other night. Wow, talk about a let down. Not in terms of the acting, although Jeff Bridges is no John Wayne.......no but rather compared to the original True Grit, which I have, the new one looked so dreary. I realize it's popular to be artsy fartsy with this color grading stuff, but in recent years, I swear it's all over the place like a bad rash! The original True Grit just looked frick'n natural and wonderful. So for me, this bizarre color timing for Fellowship is just another example of a overused fad and a tastless one at that. Like for anyone who is a drummer, remember the days of disco. Constant open/closed high-hat on those songs. Or perhaps the insane overuse of fast double bass drum beats in a lot of hard rock/metal songs. Seriously, it's all fad and that's why it disturbs me to see Fellowship get mixed up in this. It's like saying The Fellowship has fallen to the insanity of men!

![]() As for buzz, Jackson and Warner are well aware of the situation. There's no way they couldn't be. (The studio folks I've talked to aren't surprised in the least when I ask about it; they've just let me know there's no official news or statement "at this time.") Let's see what the next two weeks bring. I think it won't be long after the set's release that we see a statement or response from Jackson and/or Warner. Quote:

Peter Jackson is quite active on his Facebook page, and has addressed several discussion topics since the "green" question was posted in the appropriate area. He's aware of the concern, and I'm sure his silence is indicative of satisfaction with Warner's plan to address the issue with a recall or to make it clear that they adhered to his intentions. The only mystery, IMHO, is whether Jackson or Warner (or both) will provide the eventual and inevitable answer to the intention vs. error debate ![]() Last edited by Ken Brown; 06-24-2011 at 05:33 AM. |

That being said, maybe their silence is a good sign that there is a problem that will be addressed after the release date. If there is absolutely no problem, and they are supposed to be this way, it seems like they would have said so much, much earlier. ![]() |

The GLADIATOR fiasco was exposed after release, and it was easier for the studio to acknowledge (to some extent) and implement a replacement program for a product that by then was already distributed and sold, and only for those who expressly asked for it. But if Warner were to acknowledge any flaw with this transfer now, before release date, they couldn't put out the actual product on the shelves and would have to recall all copies, after having spent quite some money on packaging and distribution (by now, most retailers have their copies stored). Since, as has been said here several times, most buyers won't see a problem with their discs, it makes more sense to remain quiet for now, sell it like it is, and then issue some official statement on the matter and offer a replacement at a later time, likely several months down the road, to save face. Then again, all this is pure speculation on my part with no real evidence to support it, and it well may be an educated guess or simply wishful thinking. + 1 Last edited by Roy Batty; 06-24-2011 at 05:49 PM. |
