I got my set from WBshop about an hour ago and I am watching Fellowship. It has always been my favorite film of the trilogy so I watch the theatrical blu-ray 3 or 4 times. I am only about a 1/2 an hour into the film, all shire scenes, but I notice a significant upgrade from the theatrical to the extended. This is a much more impressive looking blu-ray.

Of course this is just my opinion without owning it yet. Two different versions would be unlikely, but sure would make things a lot more interesting! |

Stinky!
I see you’re still wearing dem goofy tinted goggles. Either take down dem goggles or take the test and see if you can pass it before providing further assessments – As you’re killin me with dem goggles. |

Taking pics from a digital or cellphone camera are all but useless even assuming you're shooting a properly calibrated display. The pics will look greatly different depending on the camera used and don't accurately reflect the color actually being displayed. The settings of the camera, the light sensors the camera uses, ambient room lighting, type of display you're photographing and amount of light it outputs, etc. all affect how the camera captures the image. I could stand right next to you with a different camera and take a pic at the same time and it will look quite different.
To see what the UK version actually contains you'd need to grab screen caps from the disc itself. I'm sure someone in the UK has a BD drive and'll be able to grab some screens. That will prove definitively if it has a different color timing (which would be awesome, because we wouldn't need to hope for an exchange program.) I posted a minute after you posted. It's almost like you summoned me from beyond. This is black magic and I don't agree with it at all. Last edited by Stinky-Dinkins; 06-24-2011 at 04:57 PM. |

It seems obviously to me now that they wanted the changes to the color of the Shire to look like that, because the green is duller and more normal when the Hobbits go into the corn field and forest. And WOW!, the scene when we first get a look at the Black Rider is amazing. They have improved the video quality so much.

Most, so far, seem to be backing up the conclusions of most pro reviewers. |

The point is there hasn't been a single screen cap or video clip of a copy that hasn't had the extreme timing change we've seen from all the screens from "unknown sources." If it isn't there on new discs, it shouldn't be tough to grab the corresponding scenes to prove those originally posted are inaccurate. Sure, how bothersome it is is subjective (as is DNR, EE, etc.) The TE's FotR, despite being riddled by DNR, was lauded by the majority of this forum (who said repeatedly the "caps were inaccurate,") apart from Ken who dealt with it very cearly in his review (unlike many/most other critics.) I've seen nothing to indicate these new caps aren't 100% accurate, just as the ones of the TE were. I've watched the Youtube clips - I notice it extremely easily, and it bothers me. I've been shown nothing to indicate those aren't accurate captures. Last edited by Stinky-Dinkins; 06-24-2011 at 05:32 PM. |

They've all mentioned the color timing change (as this we have confirmation was changed), but not all of the reviewers have claimed to see the "global" green tint. |

Even Bill Hunt didn't go that far. Bill mentions a color timing change, he just doesn't give any details about it in his review. Every other review I've read has mentioned the green/teal/cyan tint. But all of them have said the good outweighs the bad. I'm prepared for the green/teal/cyan tint to NOT be as objectionable when viewed directly from the discs versus screen shots and video clips. I do fully expect to SEE a green/teal/cyan tint, but just how objectionable will it be? I'm going to view it with my OWN eyes first before I make an investment in the set. Happily, I friend is getting the set no matter what it looks like and I'll be over at his house as soon as his set arrives. Mark |

The only one I've read to state explicitly he can't detect the green tint has been RAH. Every other review has either confirmed its presence or didn't go into enough detail on the specifics of the color timing change to indicate what exactly they were seeing (just that the color timing has been "changed," which could either indicate the green tint or selective digital regrading - or both.) |

I find it funny when some posters seem to ignore posters who claim to have the discs and have offer words that differ from their opinion; but the moment someone comes along and claims to have the discs and offers words that back their opinion they quote it like it's the only truth. A balance needs to be found between all the reviews/comments out there and the screenshots. How much weight an individuals gives to one or the other will/can/should vary based on a plethora of things; but it would be nice to keep some consistency. At this point, I feel we still have too many conflicting reports to make a solid decision (that said I'm still keeping my pre-order and will chime in with my thoughts once I have the discs in hand ![]() |
