Hello everyone figured I'd give my 2 cents on the issue at hand. I just got my copy and had look at it on both displays in my home.
In the living room on my Panasonic 50VT20 using the Panasonic BDT350. In a nutshell what I saw was fantastic! Yes there is definitely a color time change but I would call it very slight and if I wasn't reading forums I doubt I'd have noticed anything at all. Detail and color looked amazing IMO. I then went downstairs to the theater to take a look at it using my JVC RS20 projector. Using a PS3 with that. Projected at 106" it looked every bit as good as it did on my other set up. I saw no issues with the scenes I watched. FWIW I watched the same scenes on both, Prologue, Concerning Hobbits, The Shire, At The Sign Of The Prancing Pony, The Pass of Caradhras, The Fighting Uruk-Hai. If I was more tech savvy and had the ability to get some screen caps to post I would. All I can say is if what I have in my hands at this time is what folks can expect on Tues I really can't see anyone being less than thrilled with it. What I just looked at wasn't even in the ballpark as to what the caps I've seen looked like. |

Ultimately, if Warner came out and said that this is incorrect color timing and issued a replacement, I would certainly take them up on it. However, if they said there is no problem, then I have no problem keeping and thoroughly enjoying this version over and over. I do like the packaging as well (these black Blu-ray cases are pretty slick) and I also appreciate that it takes up less space than my original DVD EEs did. Happy camper here and thanks UPS for delivering it earlier than the original Monday estimate! ![]() |

In all honesty I'd say it varies a bit. Scenes in the Shire greens most certainly popped on both displays. In the case of Caradhras, I agree with the poster who felt it swayed more blue. That scene "felt" colder than usual especially on the larger screen. In all cases it was far more subtle than any screen caps I've seen and if I wasn't looking for it I'm not sure I would've noticed anything other than a gorgeous picture.

The question is not whether the green/cyan tint is there. It is there. The question is, do you see it or mind it? If you don't see it, that doesn't mean it isn't there. Or that it isn't accurate to what is being shown in the vast majority of properly captured screenshots.
Objective analysis shows a green tint, without question; be it by screenshots, pixel-by-pixel color comparisons, side-by-side image comparisons, etc. These are not subjective judgments. These are objective evidences of a tint, and they all show the same tint across the whole of the same transfer.Let's stop debating whether the tint is there. It is there. It's been established, verified and proven with numerous objective measurements and analyses. The only debate to be had is whether the tint -- which does indeed preside over the entire film -- is intentional, problematic or easily perceived by all viewers in all viewing environments ![]() That said, if someone is able to take a properly captured screenshot with pure whites that do not display a green tint, please post it online, here or anywhere, as well as the inner-ring codes on your discs. Much as I normally advise against screenshot combing and screenshot science, not one screenshot exists in which measurable pure whites appear, or in which whites (and every other color) aren't affected by a verifiable green/cyan tint, slight as it may sometimes appear. Not one. My apologies if that sounds snippy, but claims that the tint is not there, without hard evidence, are only making the issue more confusing than it needs to be and making this thread more argumentative than it should be ![]() Last edited by Ken Brown; 06-24-2011 at 08:41 PM. |

They're talking about Deathly Hallows, Part 1. people are concerned that the skipping problems that plagued that film for some people will persist with the LOTR EE's.

I believe the Harry Potter release got mentioned as an example of a botched disc, released by Warner, which does not yet have a replacement program in place. I don't think anyone suggested the LOTR set suffers from the same issue as that set. |
