A Mod posted this yesterday in the UK thread. It does seem odd. But no other uk retailer has taken it down.

Those screenshots are brutal. I'm glad I ended up cancelling. I'm eagerly waiting for something from PJ so we can ALL see LOTR!

hmmm, not to my eye.
Same feeling here.

Well, that settles it for me then. If the French edition is green too, I might as well place my order for an edition featuring English subtitles (US, UK or Canada)…

Hardly any difference when comparing to the same images in the Polish/Thai BD dump, so it looks like the exact same transfer, IMO.
Well Gandalf is still gandalf the "grey" and Saruman still Saruman the "white" wizard here. Hair is grey on gandalf and hair is white on saruman like its supposed to be. I only notice that the image is a little darker. Thats all and i still think this is intentionally done be Peter Jackson

There is a slight tilt towards green in scenes at the Shire but that's deliberate - Jackson obviously wanted the grass to look as green as possible. But it's so far removed from the panic about this image that I'm honestly wondering if it wasn't all a hoax.

These discs will figure on many of the lists of the year's best transfers. Relax, everyone. Jackson and co have nothing to answer for.
Hmmm.... trust duggie's eyes, or trust Ken's eyes??

Or, maybe I should trust Jude's eyes?

Since scientific analysis has already proven the green tint is there, I'll trust Ken and Jude's eyes, that you.

Going by those shots, still green, muted and ugly. Even the shots where the green is not as obvious, it still impacts the image in a negative way it seems by muting the general look.

I plan to have a 6 day marathon of watching these. I figure that will be the best way to enjoy them!

I will also have to get arou8nd to watching the special features.

This set can't get here soon enough.

unfortunately, respect for their customers seems to be in short supply over at WHV. Not that they're unique in that regard... :cough: fox :cough:
what about respect for those that dont have these dvd`s now and want to start there collection now?

I find it funny how people are so upset that these special features are SD, they were shot in SD, they could have easily up converted everything but what's the point 90% of the people that own the content before have already seen it all. Wasted time and effort.
Nah - I get what you are saying. It works out to about $25 a flick, as you pointed out. I guess the part that annoys me is all that extra content that I absoluetely dont give a crap about being jammed in there. Like options on a car you dont want or food off a menu you didnt order- they are part of the cost and you get the bill for it.

This comment here:

Is exactly what Im talking about. Weve seen the special features, we own them already in our DVD sets..... its waste of money and packaging as well as time and effort!

Oh well - At some point Ill end up with these, thats gauranteed. I just dont think it will be release day anymore. No biggy.

All those years of production, effort and expense and it's possible some tech in a mastering suite was a little over zealous with the green colour grading. I know that PJ is quite busy with production on the Hobbit but you'd hope that he would have done more than just rubber stamp this release having watched a scene or two to get a "feel" for the results.

There are some scenes that look alright from what I've seen but others are just wrong. I'm on the fence when it comes to shelling out the money for this. I've waited a long time for these films on BD... I just might have to wait a little longer (or alot).

A rather interesting "scientific analysis" when you've not even practically "experimented" the release in question for yourself, basing said storied "analysis" merely on someone else's choice of screenshots. Here's a hint - why not trust your own eyes when you glance upon the Blu-Rays in question in your own choice of viewing environment, rather than what people are saying on a board? I am personally not forming an opinion on this until the Ultimate Editions are released (heh) but either way, I've always thought "scientific" analyses to be based upon facts, not hearsay and happenstance.

There's not a single bit of white anywhere in this image:

I measured the color of that screenshot in Photoshop. Here's the results for Saruman's "white" hair (I measured it at the "whitest" spot I could find):

What about Gandalf's hair? I also measured it at the whitest spot (on top of his head):

Well, surely Saruman's robe is "white"? No:

What about that "white" paper behind Gandalf? Sorry, but no white there either:

All of the "whites" in that image are actually greys with very strong tints toward blue-green.

Now, I understand that to your eyes it may look like like there are whites in that image. But you better go back and read Ken Brown's message that has been quoted here multiple times. FOTR EE Blu-ray DOES have a green/teal/cyan tint.

And what about those who haven't seen the bonus features? I'm betting that there are more people who haven't seen them than there are of those who have.

I'm so glad that I like the screenshots because if I didn't, I can only imagine the agita it would cause me. I'd probably end up shooting myself with the Extended Edition DVDs in my lap.

Am I correct in understanding that this set does not include the Theatrical cuts?

No, and there will likely be no such set until Jackson chooses to release his Ultimate Editions, which would likely contain both Hobbit films in a five movie set. Or at least that's what the birds have been whispering for a while.
