I am personally not forming an opinion on this until the Ultimate Editions are released (heh) but either way, I've always thought "scientific" analyses to be based upon facts, not hearsay and happenstance.
My comment about scientific analysis was based the findings by madshi over on AVS forum. Madshi measured the color of the title on the FOTR EE Blu-ray using his fancy PC and some math (to convert the results to RGB values). The computer RGB values his analysis revealed are:

Red: 188.6673214
Green: 203.5908847
Blue: 177.4033794

A very evident green tint!

This is the very same title that some have claimed is WHITE without any hint of green. Balderdash!

Read it for yourself:

Now, I understand that to YOUR eyes it may LOOK like like there are whites in that image. I'm not surprised that your eyes and brain are so easily fooled. But you better go back and read Ken Brown's message that has been quoted here multiple times before making your next set of grand pronunciations. FOTR EE Blu-ray DOES have a green/teal/cyan tint.

I don't mean to be a stickler or anything, but all the samples you showed were definitely just plain old blue. They were nowhere near the green register on Photoshop.

HOWEVER, I can see the green tint in the photo itself. Just not in your samples.

I will not argue with you any longer it is hopeless. we will see when PJ makes his announcement.
Very well said, these people may as well check all movies for "pure whites" they may be very surprised at what they find, jeez just don't buy the darn set and move on for cryin' out loud, page after page of the same crap, I myself can't wait to pick this up Tuesday, and "if" there is really something wrong with it, then I will deal with it at that time, for now I am going to enjoy having the EE on Blu.

and all these damn color numbers these guys keep throwing around, WHO CARES! is this going to help you sleep at night? do they make you feel proud or better? what is wrong with simply waiting it out now and seeing what is said or happens officially, if there is a supposed problem, I am pretty sure that the powers that be are full aware of it by now, or maybe we do need several more pages of the same crap posted, who knows?

That's fine. You don't have to read this forum. Simple answer. Watch and enjoy. We feel that the product is not worth the price due to obvious changes and until we hear something from Jackson, we will not be satisfied with people who "don't see the color difference" like mredman.

You tell us to move on. That's what you should do. I'm not being mean, but if you don't want to read the forum, then don't. No one is forcing you to.

The numbers are proof that there is indeed a blanket green tint, which many people were denying in the beginning. They asked for proof, it was provided. The numbers on this page show that the French blu is the same transfer as many of the others. Unfortunately, no one has any screenshots of the rumored fixed UK blu at this time.

A lot of the same topics get stirred up on this forum because there is either a new piece of evidence or someone asks a question that had been answered before, but they don't (understandably) feel like surfing through hundreds of pages to find the answer.

LMAO! what a joke, not to be mean, whatever man, and I DO like to read the forum, I love it as a matter of fact or I would not be a member, its just the rehashing of the same crap that gets very annoying, what is wrong with waiting it out now and seeing what, if anything, gets done with this "supposed" problem, and I say "supposed" because I will not judge until I see this myself on my screen, is this wrong, I doubt it, I just want to see it for myself.

LOL

Don't look at the larger area of color in each sample. Rather, look for the little circle within that area of color. THAT is the color that was sampled. Then look at the area where it shows "new". The color below "new" is a larger sample of the same color in the circle. If those "blues" don't appear to have a significant green tint to them to you, then I suggest you get your computer display calibrated. The amount of blue and the amount of green in each sample is near identical. A blue-green tint. Look at the RBG values. In one case (Saruman's robe) there is more green than blue in the sample.

Those color samples are HARDLY "plain old blue".

And, as has already been discussed REPEATEDLY throughout this thread... While it is common to refer to it as a "green tint", it has been proven that in some areas (depending on other colors in the scene), the tint can appear to be teal or cyan. We all just sort of settled on "green tint" because the freakin' snow is tinted green.

Mark

There's nothing wrong with it, but your post isn't going to stop the argument. So, if you don't want to read it until release date when most people will have, then don't read it until Tuesday. That's all I'm saying.

I too just wanted to say a quick "THANK YOU!" I've enjoyed reading all of your reviews over the years (Watchmen comes to mind). I have an admiration for anyone that goes above and beyond. That is certainly what you have done with your LotR Extended review. It rises above many and is much appreciated.

I sincerely hope yourself and the other reviewers are compensated for your work in some way. You all do a fine, fine job.

I think I speak for many of us here, when I say this website is an invaluable plethora of resource and information. As we can see here, regardless of opinions, your review has thus far served as a great reference point for many.
I second that!

I'm being civil. I understand where he's coming from. A lot of the times, I'm now skimming posts for screenshots or links!

However, I know that telling people to stop reposting the same information isn't going to stop anyone from doing so.

LOL, I thought we both were being civil as well, there were no harsh words or name calling, this whole debate is just getting frustrating for those that want to read everything else in this thread except for the same re hash crap from the same people that obviously LOVE constantly throwing it out there, I just believe that at this point(my opinion only) none of this is going to change anything, people are already getting them and the rest of us that could not get them early, will be getting them this Tuesday, so why not tell those that keep repeating themselves for whatever reason, to just edit their post with their supposed new found information instead of post after post of the same thing? just a thought.

It's all good WorkShed, it is alright we see things differently.

I think both camps could admit to 'reposting the same information' over and over. It's one of the reasons I've kept mostly to myself on this topic - I'm waiting to view the discs myself before taking one position over the other. I think I'll like the discs (the screenshots on their own, without comparisons, don't look like anything I'll tear my hair out over). Really, until those of us keeping our orders actually see the discs and/or have a statement from Warner Bros or Jackson/Lesnie, there's nothing to do but have these back and forth exclamations.

I have been reading this thread for many days now. I hope to see more first hand viewing experiences, now that the EE's are being received by members. I have the TEs and was not considering purchase of the EEs until I read about the increased detail virtually all the reviewers have commented on. So, for now, I'm leaning toward purchase, but am content to wait for more member reviews. I find the reviews most useful if the equipment used is listed.

While the screen shots and scientific analysis of the color composition is interesting, it will have no impact on my buying decision.

I'm about as sure as I can be without viewing it myself that something went wrong with the BD, assuming the caps are fairly accurate. There's no way PJ asked for the Fellowship title and credits to be tinted green.

So for now, I have moved on from that debate, and am now focused on the chances of a replacement disc being issued. Is there actually a chance this will happen? Has anything like that ever happened before? Have there been similar cases were a replacement disc was issued? How did the process work? How long might it take?

Oh I get ya - for those that dont have any of this already, I envy you! But, the vast majority own the EE DVD set and thats what Im talking about regrading duplicate discs and stuff we dont want.

You're gonna have a blast with the set!

I just wish for once I could get lucky and get these releases early like some, sure would like to watch FOTR EE tonight.

Yes, if there really is a mistake there's a good chance that there will be a replacement.

Yes, WB did replacements before. Terminator 3 and one of the Matrix films comes to mind.

You call them, give them your info, and you get sent the corrected disc. It might take a few weeks.

Got the UK edition today, and to me it looks like all the other versions. BUT the green tint really isn't as bad as some of those screenshots would suggest. Watching the movie in motion in a dark room and the colours look fine to me, for the most part. Definitely better than the TE. Buy with confidence, people!
