I hope the statement on which RH relies on is really "official" or else it would be a shame that a blu-ray.com reviewer post that statement as if it is official.

While we wait from Mr. Brown as he is trying to find out what's going on, I think RH should chime in and say the statement is official by relying on real sources from WB or WHV.

Mr. Brown: Mr. Harris told in a previous post in this thread that you exchange PMs. Have you exchanged any PM or contacted otherwise with Mr. Harris with regard to this latest development, i.e. authenticity of the statement from WHV posted by Mr. Harris in hometheatreforum?

That was the worse screenshot i had seen prior to watching it.

Upon watching it though i noticed it was raining in the wide shot (first time ive noticed this) just before this scene. I thought the slight cyan push actually made a little sense and looked fine.

I hold nothing against people wanting a pre-colour grade change or a version they would be content with though

I think alot of people who try the movie will be surprised how good it actually looks and will hardly notice the colour change.

This statement was just posted on the Discussion thread I started on the Official Lord of the Rings Facebook page. Is it the same as the one you're referring to?

Warner Bros Home Entertainment Group confirms that The Lord of the Rings The Motion Picture Trilogy Extended Edition Blu-ray accurately represents the intended look of each of the three features. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring™ was remastered from the original digital production files in order to reproduce the full color imagery of the feature.

As stated publicly by Robert Harris, renown film archivist and overseer of the restorations of The Godfather, Lawrence of Arabia and many other classic titles:

“How many films truly endure decades and the test of time?

Casablanca, Lawrence of Arabia, The Godfather, The Wizard of Oz, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Gone with the Wind…

Think about it.

How many films are purposefully passed down from parent to child, generation to generation, as something that has attained a sense of wonderment, and endures that passage of time?

From the masterworks of J.R.R Tolkien, filmmaker Peter Jackson has created a motion picture trilogy that not only has that quality to endure, but now Warner Home Video has brought Mr. Jackson’s work to Blu-ray as he wishes them to be seen.

The imagery and audio of these new editions are not only problem free, but have a very special majesty and exultation about them-- perfect in every frame.

Make no mistake. The new Blu-rays of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy on Blu-ray are a ceaseless wonder that will survive the generations. They demand your attention.

Colin McKenzie would be pleased.

Very Highly Recommended.”

It's certainly not what I was expecting...

Not to nitpick, but technically this is the first they've said it in any sort of official capacity. Not trying to argue though, I know what you're saying

Just to clarify: I have zero doubt Mr. Harris received the statement he posted from an official WHV representative. The only thing I have yet to confirm is whether that statement has been designed to specifically address the green tint, or to promote the set which releases tomorrow. It's very difficult, since all of the information surrounding this issue is so vague. That's why Jackson's thoughts on the matter would be so invaluable. He isn't prone to promotional speak

That said, the statement's appearance on the official Facebook page may be as official as it gets. I'd just like to be able to confirm one way or the other. Again, Mr. Harris' report of receiving a statement shouldn't be questioned. Only the statement itself is open to question.

And I don't mean to further the beating of any dead horses . Honestly, if Jackson, Lesnie or even someone from Warner would just address the green tint specifically, the error vs. intention debate could finally be put to rest. I fear the current statement, while minimizing the debate, only prolongs its existence.

Lol! I think it would be great for everyone to stop posting the same thing until one of two things happen: 1-you have actual facts to substaniate your conclusions or 2- you have seen the movie.

Just my humble two cents

Hi flyinmunky99,

I just want to make the point that I do not want a pre-color grade version. I think the specific and intentional color regrading done on a scene-by-scene basis in various places, like the Council of Elrond, is an improvement.

What I want is the version that DOES have this specific color regrading but DOES NOT have the non-specific green blanket cast over top of the whole affair afterward, which seems very much like an error.

As for the rain in the wide shot, I notice it equally in both TE and EE versions (I just compared), but it's not even raining anymore in the "second breakfast" scene. And, whereas before that scene looked like it was an overcast but relatively bright morning, around 8-9 am (which is when it is supposed to be), it now seems like ... well, I don't know what ... like either dusk or just after dawn (both of which are incorrect to the intended time), and the green cast and horribly muted colors don't seem to add anything at all to scene.

And, I would add, it seems illogical to look for any specific or intentional role the coloring is supposed to add to the scene when it's precisely the same color that has been applied as a blanket to the film as a whole.

I myself enjoy the new color timing. I am not blindly following the director's intent, I personally believe that the release looks fine. In the past, I've been skeptical of certain directors, including George Lucas.
The difference is so small that I had not noticed until it was pointed out. The coloring also solves many of the over saturation and coloring issues in the previous versions. Pink skies and pink clouds now lean towards blue. The red shadows of Rivendell finally look like natural shadows. While I'm disappointed by the loss of pure white, the film looks better in so many places with the new coloring.
I'm not trying to blindly follow PJ. In fact, two weeks ago I cancelled my preorder because I had heard that there was a horrible green tint. A week later, upon actually viewing the infamous screenshots and YouTube clips, I decided that it wasn't a big deal at all and actually made the film look better in my opinion.

I think the issue with the response is we don't know the question that was asked to Warner.

As Ken had laid out, there are two seperate "debates" about the master:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/4862908-post4413.html

Was either the question, or the response, specific about "debate #2"?

That said, I think this is the end of the line. Buy it or don't buy it, but this is all we're going to get for a while.

Yeah, i should have worded it differently. I just hope people get a version at some point sooner or later they are content with.

Luckily for me im content. On to Two Towers i go.

AFAIK it wasn't on the official facebook page. Someone unofficial posted it on a discussion page on PJ's site.

I would like to see the movie company and/or PJ respond specifically to the green-tint issue. For them to issue something saying "The color timing is what we intended" means little, because the green tint is a separate issue.

In other words, I can see someone going to them and saying "people are complaining the colors are changed!" and then, without popping in a copy of the actual blu-ray, they respond: "We meant to do that!" -- completely unaware of the green issue.

That was actually the first thing I did: PM Mr. Harris to see if he could direct me to his source or forward me the press release/information he received. He and I have previously chatted about the FOTR transfer (among a variety of other things), so it isn't the first time we've discussed the transfer.

He isn't online at the moment, though, so we haven't talked about this most recent development. But my previous interactions with him make it very easy for me to assume he didn't blindly post some random statement from an untrusted source. I'm sure he'll get back to me when he's online and has a moment. We have a healthy dose of mutual respect for one another.

(I was also under the impression that his 2nd review of the set was tongue-in-cheek, so I'm curious as to what he thinks of it being posted in a statement on the Peter Jackson Facebook page by an LOTR Facebook page moderator )
