Just to clarify: I have zero doubt Mr. Harris received the statement he posted from an official WHV representative. The only thing I have yet to confirm is whether that statement has been designed to specifically address the green tint, or to promote the set which releases tomorrow. It's very difficult, since all of the information surrounding this issue is so vague. That's why Jackson's thoughts on the matter would be so invaluable. He isn't prone to promotional speak

That said, the statement's appearance on the official Facebook page may be as official as it gets. I'd just like to be able to confirm one way or the other. Again, Mr. Harris' report of receiving a statement shouldn't be questioned. Only the statement itself is open to question.

And I don't mean to further the beating of any dead horses . Honestly, if Jackson, Lesnie or even someone from Warner would just address the green tint specifically, the error vs. intention debate could finally be put to rest. I fear the current statement, while minimizing the debate, only prolongs its existence.
Ken i see what you mean but this response by warner most certainly cover the entire PQ of FOTR incl. the tint IMO.
There is noway they would come out and say "The green tint was intentional"
If they make a statement it would sound like something like we just got a few hours ago.

Is Bill Hunt a trustworthy source, head over there and see his comments on the offical statement ( or see my post a page back)

I believe someone within the WB organization made this response, totally. It's complete studio PR speak. See several other generic studio responses in response to complaints about the quality of discs upon release.

I don't believe, though, the response has anything to do with Jackson or Wingnut. He's known for his candor, and this response is as generic and unspecific as it could possibly be (and it's also nonsensical from a technical standpoint, something Jackson wouldn't be.)

It is completely bizarre to me that they used RAH's absurd over-the-top complimentary "review" in the official response though. Bizarre, or hilarious. Can't decide which one. Both probably.

He only restores classic Hollywood films and is trusted with valuable cinema classics from various studios. But yeah, he's not trustworthy and has no clue what he;s talking about.

well Bill Hunt now says it to. You need to face it. This is the intended look of EE FOTR approved now by Peter Jackson

All right... I'm sure this announcement is going to liven-up discussion around the Interwebs. As many of you are aware, Warner's new Blu-ray release of The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy - Extended Edition finally arrives in stores tomorrow. It's a damn fine box set, that we think you'll all enjoy (see our review here). Meanwhile, a few of you may be aware that there's been some controversy regarding screenshots and the color timing of the new 2K-remastered presentation of Fellowship of the Ring. Our feeling here at The Bits is that it's been blown out of proportion, as things tend to be these days. However, just to be sure, we started a process a couple weeks ago (before we posted our review) to encourage Warner Home Video and Wingnut Films to investigate the matter to make sure that the discs streeting tomorrow truly and accurately represent the creative vision of director Peter Jackson and cinematographer Andrew Lesnie. That process has been on-going, involving Wingnut and the filmmakers, and it appears it's finally concluded. Here's the studio's official statement on the issue, as of this afternoon:

"Warner Bros Home Entertainment Group confirms that The Lord of the Rings The Motion Picture Trilogy Extended Edition Blu-ray accurately represents the intended look of each of the three features.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring™ was remastered from the original digital production files in order to reproduce the full color imagery of the feature."

So there it is. We have little doubt that the controversy will continue in some quarters, and that those who are convinced there's a problem here will continue to feel that way. Nevertheless, we are told that the filmmakers have checked the discs and confirmed this is the intended look. We suspect that when the discs are actually in YOUR hands tomorrow, the vast majority of you will be very happy with them. We further suspect that many of those who've been following the controversy for the past couple of weeks will wonder what the fuss was about. It shall be interesting to see what the 'morrow brings. Much rejoicing (and a bit of talk about 'revisionism'), we predict.

Its almost as official it can get now

Not me! I'll never buy this green crap!

Actually, a friend of mine is buying it tomorrow, and bringing it over to my house so I can check it out first hand. I can't wait to see it. Unless I see something drastically better than I've seen here, I'll just save my money. I honestly don't care who comes out and says what about this, I don't want no damn stinkin' green movie!

Jackson changed the coloring timing of the TE Blu Rays. He changed the color timing of the EE Blu Rays. I have no doubt we will see further changes to the color timing for the ultimate editions and I wouldn't be surprised if the green tint applied throughout this release gets "revised." There was nothing officially wrong with the TE Blu Rays and we all know how that turned out.

As for the new PR statement...

"Just a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down."

Wow, some of you have horrible attitudes. The statement is from Warners. Calm down and get over it
