I will keep the DVD EE's for the Alan Lee artwork and because the packaging is cool. I didn't know the movies were released on VHS. Well done!

Well it wasn't that bad when you had no cable-tv thus a lot less channels to have to surf.

Total = 4, but there always seemed to be something worth watching.

Sorry if I'm being dumb, but how do we know that's the final description?

Like others have said, I just can't sell my DVD sets of the EE trilogy. The packaging is just so nice. I think what I may do is just use the DVD packaging for the Blu-Ray set. I figure if I just replace the trays that hold the discs with 2-disc trays, Each one can hold the Blu-Rays, the DVDs and all the bonus discs for each movie. But I won't do anything until we know for sure how many discs there will be.

I am hoping the 15 disc set is accurate considering Amazon that is charging $83. I also hope these transfers are struck from new HD masters, but sadly I expect that is too much to ask since we all know that new post-Hobbit uber editions are coming. As to what they will contain beyond what is already on the 4 disc sets is beyond me.

I have to say that its making me just shake my head in disgust to see the whining coming from people who are complaining about actually having to get off of their lazy pathetic ass to change a damn disc.

Its attitudes like that allows for shows like The Biggest Loser to exist.

I am VERY hopeful that these films get split over two discs to maximize the video quality. If that means having to get off my butt for a minute to change discs.

SO. BE. IT.
Whether you believe it or not, he has publicly stated on several occasions and in interviews that HIS CUTS are the TC's and the EE's are for the fans who actually want to see more. Now if this is just him backing the studio for needing to trim it, believe what you want. I'm just relaying what I have heard come directly from his mouth.

As far as the split thing, I really hope that's not directed at me cuz I'm in the "I don't care as long as its in Glorious HD" group. I don't think it NEEDS to be on 2 discs to avoid PQ sacrifice, but I don't care if it is.

What IS bad is pulling a George Lucas and trying to replace an older version with a newer one. At least here we'll have both options. Although if the EEs don't have the originals included via seemless branching it will be annoying that the transfers'll probably be inferior for the TEs
I understand what you mean here, but it is not always true as well. Personally, I think Ridley Scott's final cut of Blade Runner is the definitive version... granted, the Blu-ray DOES have 5 versions of the film (including the workprint) for fans who prefer the original version so Ridley gets mad props and GL keeps rambling about his vision... so I see what you are trying to say

Yes, I am keeping every version of this movie that I own. When I actually get a home theater room its going to be decorated in LotR and Star Wars...

My stepdad has both versions on VHS, TC and EE, people complaining about the EE being on 2 discs... the TC of RotK was on 2 VHS tapes! Be glad those days are gone, crappy video and audio, lack of space... Might pick up the EE on DVD for him some day and try to persuade him into letting go of the VHS, they'd look AWESOME next to my Star Wars VHS tapes!

I agree with this. It is less the fact that he is making changes to the films and more that he is pretending the original theatrical versions do not exist that gets more people angry i think.

If its coming from Amazon, NOTHING is final. How many times have they put up bad specs for blu ray releases?

We dont. This could change. Once we get the official release news from Warner, then we will know "final" specs.

I've been saying this for awhile now... but most people see the picture and immediately think its definitive. It MAY be, but nothing is certain as of now.

People get angry for everything in here, so it's not much of a big deal

angry there is two dics and they have to get up to change them
angry there is one disc and the movie PQ will suck
angry the sound is not the way they want it
angry it's too expensive
angry
angry
angry

I sometimes wonder if the entire planet spend their entire day angry? Maybe people should just stop posting so much in forums and go have fun?

Hypocrisy, thy name is fandom.
I think you have missed the real issue. Just because there are various versions of famous movies doesn't make them equivalent. Apparently there are many people who love the original versions of Star Wars 4, 5, and 6, over the remade versions. And apparently there are many people who prefer the Expanded Editions of Lord of the Rings over the theatrical versions. There is nothing hypocritical or inconsistent about that. There is nothing inconsistent about one movie being considered better in its original form and a completely different movie being considered better in an expanded format. In fact, in both cases, a lot of the preference has to do with content. Lucas didn't really need to have Greedo shoot first. The expanded LOTR movies have unique content that fans like.

There are plenty of people who prefer the OT of LOTR. It's just a matter of personal taste for each individual movie, not some OCD issue where a pseron has to ALWAYS like only the original versions of movies or ONLY like later Director's Cuts or Expanded Editions.

Or to put it another way: The Star Wars films and the Lord of the Rings films are individual cases and not related or dependent on each other in any way.
