I enjoy both versions and WISH that GL would include both versions of his films for fans to enjoy. Ridley did it with Blade Runner, hell there are FIVE versions of that available. Spielberg did it with Close Encounters, 3 there! Two for the LotR and people complain about them... I don't understand... no they are not available via seamless branching but by what I understand that didn't work "SEAMLESSLY" on the DVD's, there were some issues b/c of mixing/editing differences between the two versions. EE don't just have more scenes, they were cut differently...
Who is "GL"?

I have to say at first I was very upset at the price that was put on these 3 films, especially since a lot of the contect is recycled from previous editions that most people already have. I expressed my opinion on that and TOTALLY got flamed for it, but I've calmed down and accepted the fact that even though I don't want to shell out $80.00 for these on release day I probably will, since they are my favorite movies of ALL TIME.

Now as far as the 1-disc versus 2-disc thing, I think that's a silly argument personally, but most arguments are. I for one, am going to be HAPPY to change discs in the middle of the movie if that means that I get to watch LotR EE in GLORIOUS HD and HD audio (and my system is only 5.1 so if its NOT 6.1 or 7.1, I DON'T CARE!) I'll still be the first in line on release day, and that weekend is gonna be AMAZING!!!

I was confused because you were talking about LOTR EEs and then all of a sudden you say you wish "GL" would release both. Did you mean to say "PJ"?

Yeah, and he even went back and re-wrote Riddles in the Dark in The Hobbit after he wrote Lord of the Rings, he figured Gollum wouldn't "just let Bilbo go" as he initially did...

No, I was responding to someone else who said something about George and how he changes stuff and only releases the newest version! Peter Jackson and WB DO release both versions for the fans to choose, even though they get FLAMED for actually providing both.

My stepdad has both versions on VHS, TC and EE, people complaining about the EE being on 2 discs... the TC of RotK was on 2 VHS tapes! Be glad those days are gone, crappy video and audio, lack of space... Might pick up the EE on DVD for him some day and try to persuade him into letting go of the VHS, they'd look AWESOME next to my Star Wars VHS tapes!
You might check out forum member Fors* LotR-themed home theater gallery, it is the best I have seen. I'm not thrilled with the new Blu-ray EE packaging; I prefer the DVD EE packaging. Since the special features haven't been upgraded to high-def, I will probably just replace the DVD EE's with the Blu-ray EE's. It's not that big of a deal to find a home for the Costa Botes documentaries that are included with the new release, as I already have them in the Limited Editions.

Oh I have, I check it out weekly probably, it is absolutely AMAZING!!! I agree on the packaging too, I'll probably display all the sets that I have and take the BD's out of the TC and EE and put them in a three disc case with a custom cover for each...

We dont. This could change. Once we get the official release news from Warner, then we will know "final" specs.
oh I agree, Amazon still denotes the blu's as having 5.1 - we all know by now the EE's have DTS-ES discrete 6.1 - jeesh Amazon get with the program?

I would say that Amazon gets the specs wrong on more blu-rays than they get right. Other than that, I've never had a problem with them.

I wonder if this time they will get it right because this is the email I got:

Dear Amazon.com Customer,

Customers who have shopped for Blu-ray discs might like to know that "The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy (Extended Edition + Digital Copy)" is now available to pre-order on Blu-ray exclusively at Amazon.com.

The extended trilogy features 26 hours of bonus material, including the rare Costa Botes documentaries, plus a bonus digital copy of each film available online.

Hmmm...I'm not sure. I usually don't have one favorite of anything. I was more excited about the LOTR movies before they came out because I was such a big fan of the books.

Others have mentioned that they felt the extended scenes in Return of the King were of a lower quality compared to those in Fellowship or Towers. Although I gladly welcomed most of the extra scenes, I had to question why some of them were not emphasized more, the rationale of some inserted parts when there were so many more deserving that were left out, and why some were included. For example, the relationship between Faramir and Eowyn could have greatly benefitted from additional development, as compared to say, Eowyn making soup for Aragorn. Are there others familiar with the book that had a WTF moment while watching Saruman's final scene in the Return of the King EE?

Actually no, not at all, because I knew that "The Scouring of the Shire" would never make it into the final film anyway, and I was very curios as to how he was going to resolve it. And after those previous changes and additions to the other two films, I was pretty much expecting exactly what he came up with, unless you are referring to the dialog from that scene.

Yeah, I'm just glad they put it in the EE.
After I saw it at the theater the first time, I told my friend that it didn't make sense when Pippin picked up the Palantir out of nowhere, I said I bet there'll be something more there in the EE.
