Well, given the price at which they are selling it, it could very well be a tactic in order to sell them at that price. It's better to sell 5,000 copies at $83.99 than to sell 8,000 at $29.99. So, maybe (yet, highly unlikely) they will limit the the number of prints in order to maximize profit margin?

I wondered if the Star Wars release was going to force an earlier LotR release, so I had bought into the June 28th release.

Well that's why people shouldn't have gotten their hopes up until the release date had been officially announced by Jackson or the WB.

Well I was surprise at the June date myself but like you I was happy if it were true. In reality I expected this set to come out more in the fall or later in November before Christmas, so maybe it's a sign that it will be the case

l'm on the WB website mailing list. l received a promotional email from them around 2 weeks ago regarding the EE. Telling me l should pre order now to be one of the first to own the EE's on blu. Unfortunately l deleted the email because it did have a release date on it

Just received an email from my pre-order on Best Buy Canada and it says now DECEMBER 31st 2011 as release date instead of June. I checked Future Shop Canada too and it's the same...
