Just watched Fellowship and can confirm that there is no green tint. Some people (probably the same ones as in this thread) claim The Matrix has a green tint applied in some scenes but I've never noticed that one either.
Just relax and enjoy the movie. |

The Matrix is a bad example as it's a wash in greens as it's color palate. People think they see green in the Matrix because....they do!

There is a difference of perception though....some people's eyes seem to adjust in a way that they don't see the tint. Others see it. So the question is not whether it is there or not...the question is >>> who sees it and who does not. |

I loaded part two of each movie on my other blu player and arrived at a normal menu. My BDP-S570 just takes me to a black screen, and the timer just pauses at 1 second. Pressing 'enter' on the remote plays the movie but I never arrive at a menu. |

I think there are many people who never bought the EE DVD's. I will say it is a shame they did not put the DVD content onto a single BD though.

The good news(if you can call it that) is that certain scenes that I was dreading actually looked alright, such as when they're walking through the snow-covered mountain. It was darker, but not really green. The sky was still blue and the snow still white. I prefer the older color scheme, but the scene wasn't ruined the way some of these screenshots would seem to imply. The real frustrating thing is that color scheme aside, this is a fantastic transfer. I never hated the theatrical Blu-ray as some did(mainly because I can't spot DNR quite as well as some other folks). But there's no denying the EE Blu-ray absolutely blows away the previous one. I watched the Council of Elrond scene on both and the EE is so much sharper and detailed it makes the first Blu-ray look like an old DVD. It would be nice if WB admits in the not-too-distant future that this was a screwup and offers up replacement discs, but I have a feeling we're stuck with this transfer for now. I'm glad it's not the disaster some have made it out to be. But at the same time, it's disappointing knowing it could've been even better. |

hello, if anybody already purchased and viewed the new blurays
does the green tint remains? Is there any improvement in PQ in the extended version? |

Right...
Before I start, I don't yet own the EE Bd's, nor have i seen an HD copy of the Bds, but for my point to be made this is not necessary. I trust the reviewers of this site and many others who say that the green/teal/whateverdamncolouryouwanttocallit push IS there and is measurable. I also believe the many people who say they don't notice it (even though it IS there) and it looks great and better than the TE Bds My point is what a few others have been saying, particulalry Mr Brown, why was this tint added to the WHOLE movie? I'm sure i will pick this up (when it goes down in price a bit, not much funds available for me at present) and enjoy it and probably not notice the tint that often. I am also sure that I will notice a big improvement on the TE Bds (which i do own) but I would ask the question, could it have been EVEN better WITHOUT the extra tint? If Mr Jackson comes back and says they added the blanket tint to add an extra layer of fantasy film-ness to the FOTR, or to make it fit in with the look of the new Hobbit films, then thats all fine and discussion over. All it takes is a quick/simple explanation from either PJ or Mr Lesnie as to WHY this was done and then no-one can argue that point anymore Sure after that some may say they prefer it without the tint, and even set up their screens to remove this by minor calibration changes, but at least we'd know WHY it was done. A quick PR message from WB does not come close to answering this question. TBH - I think that is the only reason this discussion is carrying on at the level of intensity it is. Yes I'm sure it looks amazing, yes I doubt I'll notice the tint, but that doesn't escape the fact that it IS there, so WHY this was done would silence both sides very quickly and simply. I can see why people would think it was an error as it makes little artistic or story-wise sense to add a contant mild tint to the whole film, particulalry when the grading has been so meticulous previously, seems a bit heavy-handed. Plus obv a replacement program from WB would cost them a fair bit to implement. So there are easily explainable reasons as to why people are still not satisified with WB's response. All this would go away with some quick responses from either of the 2 people responisble for the look of these films. So to those that see no issues and love the film I say - excellent! enjoy one of the best films ever made IMHO But to those still asking questions and clarification I say - Bravo - keep asking and hopefully we will get a simple definitve answer soon ![]() |

Thanks for the reply!
Yes, my other player is an S550 too and it worked fine on that--I arrived at a menu. As for the black screen on S570, pressing the obvious play/pause did nothing. It was just by chance that I hit enter and it played. Hopefully it will be corrected in the next update. |
