The message I'm getting from a lot of this thread is sharpness=a great picture. A lot of people don't seem to be at all worried if the colour is off. It would worry me.

It was just something different for a change. People notice things, then they discuss them. That's forums for ya.
It does get redundant at times and go too far. I halfway expect to read something along these lines before long, "hey guys you're never going to believe what I just saw. I was watching the TT blu and as I was doing a pointless frame by frame analysis I could see one of Gollum's nuts hanging out! I went back and forth and compared to the dvd release and the overall clarity of the blu-ray has made this apparent. I wonder what Peter Jackson's intent was with this scene? Has anyone went to Facebook and asked him what Gollum's nuts represent in the overall ark of the story? I don't know? I kind of prefer the previous "no nuts Gollum" better. Has anyone else noticed this?" a post like this is when we will know that we've discussed this release to death.

Tonight we finish out the Return of the King.. its been a great week with the films, have watched one disc from each film each night.. initially i was annoyed that they didnt put the films complete onto one disc but im happy now they split them.. if gives a natural split to the films if you want to break up viewing them..

cant say enough about the video/audio quality on offer here.. its great!

I really want to read Song, Fire and Ice as well, but I am waiting until Martin finishes the entire series before I start reading the first book.

I learned my lesson from Wheel of Time, got tired of rereading the series because I forgot a lot of it due to the long layover between books.

I never start a series now until it is completely done.

Just when things threaten to get too serious, someone with a great sense of humour comes along and pricks the proverbial balloon! [There is a mental connection with Gollum in that sentence somewhere, for British readers at least ...lol ]
If you think the "green tint" discussion regarding LOTR EE is bad, here in Germany there are people who will not buy blu-rays because of the green "parental guidance" logos on the blu-ray covers. The topic has been flogged to death and then some in all kinds of blu-ray related fora. Some people really should get out more .....Maybe I should take my own advice and stop reading that stuff

My overall verdict is: don't let the green get into your mind too much, this is the best set for LOTR.
The screenshots are accurate for the presentation. The only thing that got blown out of proportion was the verbal barrage that got sent the way of a few reviewers. I'll admit that I got a little swept up in that, as well, and I do apologize to Hunt and Harris for anything that I said that may have been offensive. Although, I was a lot more civil than others.

I absolutely agree that this is the best set of LOTR. It's just that, for me, the changes are notable and without a full explanation from Jackson, I cannot fully recommend it as one of the best Blu-ray releases of all time.

Anyone watch Jeopardy last night? The final question was this: What country, in 2003, issued 50 cent pieces featuring Gollum, Frodo, Gandalf, and Aragorn? I could have won a fortune.

Anyone who owns and has watched these films enough knows this. I think we have just gotten used to it being this way and the change is startling. Pretty much with you on this one,I have just watched the fellowship again so I can have a direct comparison with the extended editions.

And to be fair I did feel the picture was warn when compared to the second two movies, now of course I will have to wait until my extended editions arrive to make a proper judgement.

Anybody else notice odd "ghosting" effect on the close-ups of Frodo & Gandalf's faces as they're leaving Rivendell (Fellowship, first scene of disc 2)?!

My daughter voiced her curiosity about it before I could - so I reversed and we watched it again. Sure enough it replayed. It's like the shadows in their features leave trails as they move.

The family's been watching intently to see what details we pick up from the BDs and but this just "jumped out" at us.

If no one else is experiencing this, I guess I'll chalk it up to my equipment.

Hey man! What's up? Really looking forward to your impressions of the transfer. It really does put the TE blu-rays to shame IMO.

My initial impressions have diminished some on FOTR. When I popped it in and was checking out scenes on my TV, I thought it looked great. However, after watching the first disc on my projector last night, I can't get past the feeling that I'm wearing invisible sunglasses that I want to take off! Overall it just looks really dark, even some of the scenes in broad daylight. No, it's not my projector bulb. I think we're gonna see a lot of varying opinions on this based on tv settings/calibration. And no, I don't need to calibrate because I know Two Towers is going to look fantastic. I dunno, it just looks off.

See, I feel the screenshots are not an accurate representation of what I’ve seen in the movie. And I actually was looking closely for the green/teal tint. I could not see it in Gandalf’s beard, Saurnam’s beard, and didn’t even see any hint of green or teal in when the title of the movie was displayed. Where I have seen those screenshots on this forum for those showing the bad looking green in these situations.

Now, I am no videophile. However, I can tell there is a greenish hue to the movie, but nothing to what the screenshots have shown. So I think this is having a lot more to do with subjective viewpoint and what kind of tv one has, than the green tint not really showing or it being bad.

I suppose.

But the real issue is forgetting the details, not the overlying story, which is basically what Wikipedia is.

As it’s been said, “It’s all in the details.”

This is fabulous sentence ... It sums up a lot of things ... I would just add the loss of shadow detail, which is probably the aftermath of screwed tint layering and ''brand new super'' contrast ... One more thing: Can anyone give any logical explanation to the colour (lovely colour in TE BD) disappearance from Pippin's coat (just one of many examples on the same screenshot) ... Terrible

Well I finished Two Towers last night and it is fantastic too.

I decided to do more digging into FOTR because all this nagging is really getting to me.

I compared the major scenes in question and 100% the color timing is different. However the presentation on the EE is much cleaner, more detailed and better overall.

Even my wife(who couldn't understand why I was doing this comparison) preferred the EE. I even played a trick on her by putting EE in three times in a row and she always picked the EE version of looking better.

As my wife originally thought Blu-ray was just a gimmick. I will take those results to the bank and sleep soundly that the EE is far superior in every way.

I also think there is more detail in shadows, more variance of color found in the image. If anything the original TE are the ones that are washed out.
