The darkening was my main beef throughout the film. During the Moria sequence, my thought was that many people went to a whole lot of trouble to put fine details into the sets. These details, which appear in previous versions, were obscured or eliminated in the new release. I have a difficult time believing that Jackson would intentionally do this, but that's just me.

Ok, a few pages back I gave me intitial impressions on this new presentation. After finishing Fellowship last night, I have come down to a conclusion or two.
1. The new color timing puts Fellowship more in line with the 2nd and 3rd movies. I call it the "old world, victorian, storybook, gothic look". 2. The color timing looks fine for 95-97 percent of the movie. I only have trouble with about 3-5 percent of the color timing in the movie. 3. Detail is vastly improved over the TE's. Now this is not to say that I prefer this color timing, because I still prefer a more realistic look. But in general, the new timing isn't as bad as I feared, although I do consider the blanket application of it to be something of a hack job. |

Exactly! There is that FANTASTIC pull out shot at the very beginning of the Moria sequence that obviously involved lots of time for the model work in it. It's an awesome shot! Now it is almost totaly GONE! There is no way that I can believe that Jackson would approve of the way it has now disappeared from the film. Especailly the way the camera moves throught it for the 'big reveal'. Now it just reveals nothing! It has to be a defect in the authoring of the disk that Jackson did not know about. ![]() . |

You will have to give me about 4 hours unfortunately. But it's shortly right after Gandalf says: There are older and fouler things than Orcs in the dark places of the world! . Last edited by Duffy12; 07-01-2011 at 06:39 PM. |

There are many scenes, in particular the interior of Bag End, that start to look overexposed if you boost the brightness more than a tiny bit. I know because I believed the same thing as you at first and tested increasing the brightness by the same amount in different scenes. That green tint however is definately making the film look darker than it actually is. Of course, how dark your image is is also dependant on how you've got your equipment calibrated. "Warner Bros Home Entertainment Group confirms that The Lord of the Rings The Motion Picture Trilogy Extended Edition Blu-ray accurately represents the intended look of each of the three features.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring™ was remastered from the original digital production files in order to reproduce the full color imagery of the feature." WOW! That clears things up LOL! Could they possibly be any more vague? |

I just looked at the moria scene in question.
I must have a different copy or my tv is better but I see a ton of detail and it looks fantastic. I compared it to the original release and wow it is much improved. I would take a screenshot however my camera isn't very good. Is it possible the Canadian release is different? |

I believe it was here on blu-ray.com that I asked whether anybody had seen this new HD broadcast that Harry Knowles has refered to and whether it also has the constant green tint or not but nobody replied. |

Screened Two Towers on our home theatre last night... does anyone else think that overall the transfer looks a little washed out? The tint problem evident on FOTR isn't there (thankfully) but large parts of TT seemed pretty lifeless color-wise. The PQ was incredible though... maybe I'm just tainted from the FOTR experience?
