I just now popped in both the DVD version and the BD just to make sure that I wasn't losing my mind, and sure enough, it's a huge difference between those two scenes. If you still happen to own either the DVD or theatrical version, take a look at that same scene, and be ready to pick you jaw up off of the floor regarding the differences between the two. BTW, ironically enough, the color tint so far is not really bothering me that much I can barely notice it. (maybe the color is off on my TV) ![]() . Last edited by Duffy12; 07-01-2011 at 11:31 PM. |

Just finished watching it, and:
First of all, i knew that the special features were the same as the DVD version, but comparing the discs with the BD discs, I noticed that each movie has a "Behind the scenes" disc which was not present in the dvd version. Did I miss something? On the matter of the "green tint" issue, I failed to notice any major problem on the numerous scenes that were posted on this forum as screenshots over the past weeks, including the "fade-to-white" scene, which to me looked perfectly white. On the other hand, i DID noticed the green tint on almost every "dark" scene (and by "dark" i mean scenes shot by night or in a cave, ecc.). Was i the only one? |

I can notice it but it's such a non-issue to me :/ I think the detail looks good and the movie looks amazing and the best it ever has. I wish there was more discussion on here other then this damn tint issue. Oh well....

Hey can somebody help me here ? .. Kind of a weird request but still I'm asking
![]() I want to buy this LOTR Trilogy Extended Edition BD set (this, to be exact!), but I'm out of the US and I want to have a friend of mine in the US ship it to me .. I want to find out the exact dimensions of the LOTR set itself, and its weight as well (if anybody has a scale ![]() So can somebody take 3-4 minutes out and measure/weigh the complete package ? .. I would really appreciate it ![]() |

![]() I felt incredibly anal exchanging it for such a minor flaw and I was initially going to let it go, but every time I opened the case, there it was staring at me... mocking me. I can now empathize with the narrator of The Tell-Tale Heart. ![]() Anyway, your reason for exchanging is much more legitimate than mine, but I figure when you pay $70 backs for a set, it better be near flawless. ![]() |

OK, time for a little lighthearted entertainment! This is intended to be fun, so please play along with a smile!
![]() How much of the disagreement over the presence of the green/teal/cyan tint is due to one's TV and how much is due to one's eyes and brain? Let's have a little eye test... Click on Image #1 (below) to open a new browser window. The image you will see is made up of 20 slices of screen shots taken from the FOTR EE Blu-ray disc. After you've opened Image #1 study it for a bit. Are the white parts white? That "F" in the fourth vertical column was taken from the title ("F"ellowship Of the Ring) in the movie. Does that "F" look like it's white? Does the column to the right of it look white? Are the other white parts white? Enjoy the whiteness of it all! Image #1 Now for Image #2. For this one I used Photoshop to read the color value of the "F". I then used that color value to add a horizontal band across the entire image. That band (immediately above the "F") is the exact same color as the F. I've also placed two pure white horizontal bands across the image. Image #2 Do the parts that looked white before look white now? Funny how our eyes & brain play tricks on us, no? ![]() My thanks to 42041 over at AVS forum for the original image! Mark |

As far as some of the other comments made in this thread, the mindset is absolutely mind-blowing: The mindset most common is, "If I have to adjust my eyes to see the film, then it's not an enjoyable experience." It's not the eyes that need the adjusting peoples... it's your brain. And I'm not saying that in a condescending way, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying, you're all watching this film with what it USED to look like in your mind, so your mentally adjusting BECAUSE of visuals, not adjusting visually. Another thing that people really haven't talked about TOO much, is just how involved the process was for making all three of these films back to back to back. I mean, Peter Jackson was getting about four hours of sleep a night, different editors were hired for each film to take some of the pressure off of him, and it wasn't until sometime after production started that Jackson decided there would eventually be Extended Editions of each movie. I'm sure that put a crimp in his schedule when it came down to working on the post-production parts of FOTR. Not to mention, the stuff that was being filmed simultaneously for the second and third films were much more complicated to get done, just due to the grand scope of everything that was going on. It's entirely feasible that in the first film, he didn't really have the convenience of time to be able to go through, analyze every single shot, and decide how he wanted to adjust the color timing for it all. The second, and especially the third films had very specific color tones in many scenes, and now, FOTR is no different. |

This is part of the problem that exists due to the internet... screenshot scientists are going to make all these comparisons... and I'm not even sure why people are wasting their valuable time. NOBODY is denying the green is there, they're just saying that it's a minor issue and some actually even prefer the new color timing. Is it true white? No. But, 'white' in the film is really something that's to be taken in context with the entire image your seeing, throughout the entirety of the film. I never thought that whites looked green in the film. In fact, some scenes were more pleasant to my eye, because the abundance of white, even on a properly calibrated set, used to make me want to shield my eyes in my dark viewing environment. Not anymore! |
