any chance they will ever release the extended versions on a single disc in the future? Maybe drop all the extras and commentaries and put a TrueHD track and nothing more on it.

Not the extended editions. TTT runs from 1pm - 4:45pm and RotK runs from 4:45pm - 9pm.

I just got my copy thursday morning and I already watched the first two films. I don't know, to me they sound and look awesome.

Like many other people have said here, my only complaint is that the films are divided into two discs.

This is a GOOD thing not only for their customers but also WB Germany has to do new discs anyway and the green tint of FOTR is made public for non forum folks.

I wonder if WB really told Saturn (and therefore other companies) that the green picture of FOTR is mistake that will be adressed.

I do not think so cause they refer to customers and WB pointing out these problems and probably they have mixed that stuff up.
This would also explain why they write all three films have a green tint proble when only FOTR really has.

That's an interesting development.

Also to Todd, I absolutely loved your review! I never knew you had such a nice setup(four SVS subs).

And one more thing of importance, I think that those of you who write to Warner about this issue should be sure to point out that you are aware of the color grading changes that were made, when pointing out the blanket tint issue, so they don't mistake one complaint for another thing, just to help keep things as clear as possible.

Here's the link again:
http://www.warnerbros.com/main/help/...r_service.html

Thanks for the kudos, frogmort!

I'm glad that is how I'm coming across, because that's my intent.

I see both sides of the argument and sympathize with everything being said, I just think this release of possibly my favorite film(s) in the history of cinema should be something that is uniformly positive, and with the controversy surrounding it right now, that isn't so. Speaking from experience as someone who purchased the original Gladiator and then A/Bed it with the remaster, I can say the peace of mind you get from the resolution of a perceived flaw such as this is extremely satisfying.

Anyway, no reason to make things personal, folks, if you are satisfied with this product, awesome, enjoy it... if not, please go to:

http://www.warnerbros.com/main/help/...r_service.html

Voice your concerns in a concise and polite manner. Even if you (like me) are not disgusted by the transfer, but would just like to see consistency between the three films, take one minute to write out a short message, and as frogmort said, be clear that it is the green tint, not the new color grading, that is being presented as a fault.

Hell, even if you love the green tint, and wish everyone citing it as a negative were hit by a bus, take a minute and notify Warners of it, because the sooner the matter is officially addressed, the sooner we can all stop crying and we can all go back to our regularly scheduled programming.

After all, if you love the green tint, nobody will pry it from your hands.

Here is my translation of the German Saturn notification:

Quote:
Dear Movie fan!
After numerous hints and the confirmation by Warner Home Video we want to inform you in advance that both the sound and picture does NOT have the quality we all know from Blu-Ray.

At this time there is no definitive comment when and in which form a quality Blu-Ray version will be avialable.

Warner Home Video is "endeavored around a solution".

The flaws:
Wrong tone pitch in all 3 films
Asyncronisations in the 3. film (audio and image do not fit)
Green cast on all films

On demand you can buy the Blu-Ray set at the CD/DVD information desk for 49,99€.

That's not part of the WB announcement. I guess Saturn had to react quickly
and got the green cast information from several 1-star Amazon reviews.
Here's the WB announcement:

Even if the statement they received from WB Germany was just about addressing regional concerns, it's a bit reassuring to know that mistakes are being addressed at all. Studios do listen, sometimes.

Can't stress it enough, go to: http://www.warnerbros.com/main/help/...r_service.html and voice your concerns. History has our back.

In fact, if this FOTR issue does get addressed, I think we have the DNR-infested Gladiator and out-of-sync Saving Private Ryan to thank for it. Thanks Sapphire Series!

I absolutely did. I gave him his props for giving an honest opinion that was based on having viewed the discs himself.

He agreed with me that they look great overall. He did make it clear that he would have preferred the original timing and I had no problem with that.

I sent Warner an email thanking them for doing such an excellent job on these discs, but did let them know that I would have preferred that they had consolidated all the extras onto one BD for each film and have kept the EE packaging.

Thank you Warner Brothers!!

There's an issue with the audio track (speed) of the German release.

So... are the easter eggs from discs 1 and 2 for each movie gone? I just finished Fellowship and can't find that preview for Two Towers anywhere. If I recall, you'd click left or right or something in the scene selection screen and bring up the tower icon. I loved that preview. Really sad if it hasn't been ported over in HD.

EDIT: Oh, crap, found it. It's the little ring in the menu. Awesome. Nevermind!

I just checked, and I have found that Warner has issued disc replacements for:
Blade Runner BD
The Matrix: Revolutions BD
Terminator 3 BD
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire BD

There could be more, but that's what I've found. All of these had different problems, but I think that the possibility of a replacement is not completely out of the question.

Also, I think the "Official WB Statement" that we were given addressed the color grading, not the tint.

Let me be clear, I bought the EE BD set, and have watched FOTR two and a half times already. It was not all bad. In fact, I thought the improvements far outweighed the problems, and I did noticed the new color grading changes. Most didn't bother me that much at all, and some were rather nice.

My only problem is how the tint permeates every frame of the movie, and makes everything a little too dark and dull(and yes green in some shots), but only on this one movie.

Are those the run times on TNT? TT 3 hrs 45 min/RotK 4 hrs 45 minutes?

Isn't that too long to be the TE in both cases? See run times at right of these pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lor...rn_of_the_King

have you watched a movie on TNT lately? Do you know how many commercial breaks they have?

I picked up the Extended Editions as an impulse buy at "Best Buy". I had gone there to pick up the "Casino Royale" BB exclusive which meant I had to pass by the LotR EE display, Yep, I'll take one of those too.

Very impressed by the quality of the boxset presentation.
