In fact, if this FOTR issue does get addressed, I think we have the DNR-infested Gladiator and out-of-sync Saving Private Ryan to thank for it. Thanks Sapphire Series!
If you want to complain about the new color grading for FOTR. It will not help because that was approved by PJ. They will not do anything about that as long as PJ wanted this new change to FOTR.

BR Has a pressing issue where disc 5 would actually be another disc 1, and vice versa. So they would all look right, but you'd have two 5's or two 1's. Matrix Revolutions has a video glitch for a second near the end but it doesn't happen on a lot of player including PS3.

As for voicing concerns to WB, someone should really draft up a formal letter that everyone with actual complaints could use. Some screaming "YOU SUCK LOTR LOOKS TERRIBLE NOW BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!" is not going to help your cause.

The quick response to the valid German audio defect by WBHE should be instructive. If there is a real problem, they correct it in short order. In, my opinion, the tint complaint was carefully evaluated for two weeks. A statement was released by Corporate PR clearly and difinitively saying there was no issue. Eventually Peter Jackson will be interviewed and someone will put the question to him. I hope that you don't have to wait for the Hobbit release to see that happen.

Off the top of my head, I think:
Blade Runner- One disc was included twice, with one missing.
Matrix Rev.- One frame had mild pixelation. @ 1:45:46
Terminator 3- Originally 1080i instead of 1080p.
H.P.- HDDVD in blu-ray box, instead of BD.

Thanks to all that answered me, I will start checking my Discs, and an HDDVD in a Blu set, now that is funny.

Perhaps thats it. I don't bother with cable at all. Netflix, Vudu, etc meet my needs. For broadcast, the quality of OTA antenna HD is less compressed and higher quality than any cable source available to me.

I just got it and I am going to watch it today. I had the DVD but decided to upgrade some of my collection (not all, I have over 250 and I can't afford all of them) but I did want the blu ray of LOTR, it's one of my favorite movies of all time, I also pre ordered Star Wars. Eventually I want to upgrade my Star Trek movies.

Has anyone watched the "Behind the Scenes" FOTR DVD using the Interactual Viewer. Is there anything new in the interactive features?

I couldn't get a page to display. It's most likely no longer available.

As for TNT, they have never shown the EE editions as far as I know. Here's how broadcast works: every hour is 40-43 minutes of footage. Every half hour is 20-21 minutes footage. So, TTT is 3.75 hours in length on TNT, which equates to approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes. However, TNT always has adverts that say something like "more movie, less commercials," so you get the entire films on TV, from what I remember. I don't recall a single scene being dropped or edited out from the TNT broadcasts.

I'm finally getting around to watching FotR in its entirety. I will say that the black levels on Mount Doom during the prologue are atrocious and disgusting, ie not deep enough for my taastes. It was that way on the TE BD as well.

Message to WB sent.

Your recent Lord of the Rings extended edition bluray is one of the most inconsistent releases I have ever seen on the format. The film was directed by Peter Jackson, photographed by Andrew Lesnie and digitally graded by Peter Doyle with Andrew Lesnie actually present for a consistent look. Up until this release this has never been an issue as this is actually one big movie and the reason they were all filmed back to back.

The problem lies in your remastering of FOTR and not the other two. The digital grading which was 70% complete on all prior versions has been drastically altered to the point where it looks nothing like the follwing sequels. The two sequels blend together seamlessly as they should as did every prior FOTR release. For FOTR the color timing has been changed throughout the entire film, black levels have been increased throughout the enitre film causing alot of black crush and a green filter applied throughout the entire film. So essentially going from this to TTT they look nothing alike.

I see two options to fix the problem which is very prevalent!
1. Either reissue FOTR with the original color timing (not orange and teal) to include the 30% of the film that was not color graded and decrease the black levels so the black crush is not such an issue and get rid of the green filter that plays throughout the length of the film. With digital grading filters simply aren't needed anyway.

2. Okay I can buy into the revisionist history and many films look very different after a remaster as the color timing etc. have been changed. You need to digitally grade the sequels in the same manner as FOTR with the increased black levels and orange and teal color timing your studio loves to use. Basically have some consistency from film to film because what you have now is a mess. FOTR is a totally different animal compared to TTT amd ROTK which are beyond consistent. Since in FOTR you changed the color timing of the entire movie and drastically increased black levels the sequels need to represent that as this is just one big movie so consistency is crucial.

I look forward to your fix on this.

The other day I commented that the audio was great, but seemed a little lower overall than the TE. Well I'm just checking out a little bit of FOTR again, and either I had something adjusted wrong, or was too buzzed to make a proper judgement, because now, after making sure everything is properly set, it is absolutely astounding! The dialogue is amazingly clear, the LFE is incredibly deep and powerful, the surround is completely engulfing, and overall the audio is just so effortless and natural. I think this version has a smoothness that I may have missed, being so caught up in analyzing the picture.

I'm pretty sure that one thing we can all agree on, is that the audio is spectacular!

The 3 hour theatrical versions, were long enough for me! I don't think I can sit through four hours for each movie. A total of 12 hours, for all three? I don't think so!

Absolutely! High fives all around for the audio! So many great audio moments, but every time Frodo put on that ring it was kicked into overdrive......... I cant think of a movie track that makes better use of echo......Cant wait to hear TT and especially ROTK!

Actually, if you don't include the credits at the end, the theatrical version is 8hr 54min, and the extended version is 10hr 57min (2hr 03min longer, rounded to the nearest 30 seconds per movie).

Don't take this the wrong way, but this kind of response is what makes it difficult to take the people that are extremely bothered by this tint seriously. I'm not denying it's there, I definitely see it and in some scenes, it does bother me a bit, but it just seems like anytime someone says it doesn't bother them too much, the reply is always something like "you must be colorblind" or "your TV is messed up". People complain that the ones not bothered don't respect others opinions on the issue, but I could say the same is true about those who are bothered. Those who are bothered just get called whining babies who need to shut up, while those that are not bothered just get called colorblind people with messed up TVs. I think both sides are being quite ridiculous about all of this.

Anyway, I think I'm going to resign from this thread. It's just gotten way too out of hand. It's not even really possible for someone with a life to keep up with it anymore. After a day of work or a good night's sleep, there are almost 20 new pages of people saying the exact same things over and over and over and over again. I think we should start a new thread to discuss everything about these movies and this release except for the green debate. That way, if anyone has anything else to say about it, it doesn't get buried by dozens of pages after just a few hours.

I've already watched FOTR and TTT, but I've got friends coming over to jam in a few minutes, so I'm just skimming through FOTR for shiggles. I will watch ROTK in it's entirety when I get home from work tomorrow.

I remember what you said about the cave troll chain whipping. I'll be checking that out in a minute.

For all who are sending emails to WB.....

Keep it short. No more than a couple of sentences. Long emails are usually not read.

Be polite. Keep it short.
