I bought the set, and have watched FOTR about 3 1/2 times already. I am very impressed with the added detail in most shots, and the color grading changes don't really bother me at all. The blanket tint does bother me though. In some shots, I think it actually looks great, but quite a few parts look too dull, and a few look too green.

Peter Jackson and Andrew Lesnie did do some color grading changes, which is what I think they approved. I personally don't think the blanket tint is what they intended, but I would just like to hear them say something about it either way.

It really isn't that bad overall, when actually watching the movie in motion, in a darkened room, but if I had the choice, I would rather have the movie with the new transfer detail and new color grading but not the dull tint.

Bingo. 100% hit the nail on the head.

Wife & I just finished disc 1 of FOTR EE blu-ray. Glad I believed Mr. Harris & Mr. Hunt.
The movie is stunning, period. Beautiful (no dull green look).
My old dvd EE set can't hold a candle to it. Feel sorry for the pot stirrers, for they are chasing ghosts.

I mean this is just logical, "it doesn't add up" detective work, not a subjective opinion on whether or not it looks good.
Sorry, but that I do not believe, just don't think it would happen IMHO.

they indeed are because it is obvious that it is intentional and warner asked him about it. I mean it is in there freaking statement they made that they consulted the filmmakers about the issue. Filmmakers = PJ
And he approved it. It really should end the discussion right there but no it doesn't for the conspirators

You mean this statement?

Quote:
"Warner Bros Home Entertainment Group confirms that The Lord of the Rings The Motion Picture Trilogy Extended Edition Blu-ray accurately represents the intended look of each of the three features.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring™ was remastered from the original digital production files in order to reproduce the full color imagery of the feature."
Where does it specifically say they consulted with the filmmakers about the issues on the Blu-ray?

Something, anything easily could have happened when making the final master. I'm not saying it did, but Peter Jackson himself never said it didn't.

Exactly!

Hey everyone, I have a suggestion,
You know all of the people here who don't bring anything at all to the positive or negative side of this discussion in this thread? And the ones who only try to put people down for having a concern about this product that we have paid for?
I have a great idea!
Stop replying to them!

Neither of these movies looks like the theatrical versions in terms of coloring.

As a number of people have commented, going from FOTR into TT on the new EE set is somewhat shocking (at least for some). That can be chalked up to both the green tint and the contrast issues on FOTR. But the thing is, when one considers the new color timing on TT and the new timing on FOTR apart from the green tint and contrast, the films now look more consistent than they ever have, IMO.

However, the reason I'm pointing this out is just so that the differences between the Theatrical blu-ray and my "fixed" version of the EE image don't cause confusion. FOTR has been regraded from scratch and looks different. The green tint was applied after these timing changes were made.

Here's a sample of how Saruman looks during his conversation with Gandalf in Orthanc once the green tint is removed and the contrast is fixed. Keep in mind, this is using the exact same filter set as was used in the revised version of the Aragorn shot. No tweaks have been made to settings. These settings work on every image without adjustment, specifically because both the green tint and contrast boost are uniform throughout the film (which some might consider to be a highly suggestive fact on its own.)

Hey HeKs, suprising to hear that you brought the set , I was wondering. The way you are doing this, are you losing anymore detail when taking away the tint? And I'd love to see your four way comparison of the balrog gandalf scene from FOTR.

Friedkin obviously endorsed the crayon-colored "French Connection" blu-ray, TOO. Does that make it good? HELL, NO. They just makes Friedkin look like he's lost all sense of good taste and judgement. Or do you accept THAT travesty of a blu-ray, TOO?

Sorry. No amount of people crying: "the colors are right! The colors are right? WHAT green?!" will MAKE it right. The only thing that can do that is for Warners to correct the error and issue replacement discs.

Now, as has been pointed out, why are you greenies so determined to shut everyone else up? You love the thing, after all, right? You've got what you wanted. If Warners said: "Oh, yeah, we screwed up" and began sending out replacement copies, you'd STILL have the lovely sea-weed colored FOTR you're so fond of... so what's your problem?

Those of us who DON'T like the green have something to GAIN by trying to convince Warners to remaster the FOTR (and, yes, I've e-mailed them). We ALSO have something to gain by continuing to post about it here. Speaking for myself, I want as many people as possible to be aware of this, so as many people as possible complain about it and can hopefully get the situation rectified.
But if that's how PJ wanted it then you also have nothing to gain, correct?

As it happens, I'm the one who's supposed to be paying for and watching the movies, so yes, it is my place to complain, and question PR responses that seem to have come straight out of a can and do not address the specific issues raised. But no matter, my computer is crunching a reencode of the disc as we speak.

Please non-green FOTR EE tint believers!!! Post Screen Captures to prove it to us all!

I am REALLY curious if any non-green tint images will be discovered

BTW: I haven't been able to download and install the WB Digital Copy Manager software yet on out Windows 7 machine. Once I do, I can post side-by-side images of the FOTR EE iTunes, and Windows Media Digital Copies!

Here are my current FOTR EE iTunes Digital Copy screen captures:

Count me in as wanting a screen capture of a non-green FOTR. And no fraudin' either with PS.

Which they are, but we aren't supposed to see that.
Now this is a good comparison regarding detail. Like the dirt on Boromir's jacket and such on the full fix. very interesting.

I don't care what you'd or anyone else would love to see! I have better things to do then to post screen captures for you to try and dispel. My prints exhibit no green imaging problems that have been posted here. That is good enough in my book. If it isn't good enough in yours, oh well. I don't buy into some of this rubbish floating around on here anyway.
