I think it's a beautiful transfer hampered by a minor flaw, but a flaw nonetheless.

Seriously, im getting addict to the green tint, everyone should try it.
You know, you could adjust the tint on your tv to make all of your movies look this way, if you really like it.

I could totally understand if there were certain scenes that had been altered with an enhanced green, but it just seems unlikely to me that Peter Jackson would want to apply the shift toward green to the entire movie. Even if it were his intent to change the color for the entire movie that still doesn't explain why the titles and menu screens exhibit the tint as well. Shouldn't the menu's be consistent between the three movies?

Yessir... and hampered, nonetheless.

Too much black/white, chaotic evil/lawful good, you're wrong/we're right on this whole issue. Green tint gone, I wouldn't have a single issue worth mentioning about this xfer. It's not a travesty, it just deserves better.

I have to admit I'm having a pretty good laugh at the guys swearing up and town "their version" has no tint, though. It's one thing to not care or not even notice, but to be that thoroughly convinced you're right about something is flat-out fanatical, and would be a little frightening if it weren't regarding a home-video release.

Just finished FOTR. I didn't see any major problems with the green tint. It was a very good transfer. The sound was spectacular. Having said that---let's see what TT and ROTK look like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You would do us all a favor if you posted some screen caps. If it IS NOT there, we will all be able to see it with our own eyes. If you have a Blu-ray player on your computer, just a screen capture is all that is needed.

The reasons for this are many, and have been detailed at length in my previous posts

Again, the tint is at play in every scene. Its effects just aren't apparent in every scene. Reds are still red, blues are still blue. They're just slighty different shades of red and blue. Hope that helps clarify!

And, in case I haven't made my intentions clear, I can't wait to stop making posts like these. I hate being the guy beating the dead horse. Unfortunately, people keep trying reanimate that dead horse. I have to post this again and again because there are those who continue to suggest that the tint doesn't exist in every scene. The moment I stop seeing "it isn't there" and start seeing "I personally don't see it," I'll stop posting "yes, it is at play in every scene and is applied to the entire film"

To everyone, though, no matter your opinion, thanks as always for posting!
Here you go buddy, this is from Ken Brown. He did the official review for this site.

So you do not know how to make a screen capture. It's OK. We understand.

I think if everyone just takes a whiff of Old Toby before watching Fellowship, the tint will seem more natural.
I'm curious to see how many of these pages get deleted in the next few days.

Maguire?

Sign me up, I already took my shirt off on the previous page so anything I can do to make this even gayer should be seriously considered.

Again..no green tint on my screen. You want to come and see...that is the way to prove it. We'll see how big your mouth is at that time. Like the other poster said, it is easy to blast your mouth and ridicule others behind a keyboard. You'd probably think twice before doing that in public.

I find your logic odd. We genuinely want to know if people who profess to no green tint actually are seeing no green tint. The best way to share that is to make a screen capture. No one in their "right mind" would come to your house.

There are some very monir shifts here as well, but beyond subtle and very faithful to the original color grading of the films and nothing like the radical shifts in FOTR. I don't see any orange and teal either or increased black levels.

Hi PRO-630HD,

I'm not sure if you're misunderstanding me. I haven't gone through ROTK yet, but TT definitely has a number of instances of regrading in particular scenes. The changes are mostly pretty subtle, but if you watch the TE and EE versions side by side you'll see that there are a lot of changes made to individual scenes in the EE version.

If we consider the final result of TT, including these changes, and compare it to the scene-specific color changes made to FOTR BEFORE THE GREEN TINT AND CONTRAST BOOST, the end result is that the two films are more consistent than they used to be. However, the application of the green tint and contrast boost to FOTR undo the consistency achieved by the scene-specific coloring of FOTR.

Do you understand what I'm saying?

Great article. Thanks for posting it.

You bastards scared me out of getting the set on release week! I've already decided to get it anyway this coming week, but the article was certainly reassuring.
