They will not relase a trailer from the same master if it was a mistake. People need to face it this is not an error. Warner would not come out and say the transfer is fine if it weren't.

No, Jimbo976... No one WANTS this to be wrong. We want it to look RIGHT. That's why we're complaining that it looks WRONG.

It's YOUR opinion that it looks "amazing." Obviously, having an entire film tinted green doesn't bother you. That does, however, bother other people... who keep "beating a dead horse" (which, again, is YOUR opinion) in the hopes of making enough noise that the powers-that-be will relent, admit the truth, and issue the blu-ray as it should have been issued in the first place.

Until that happens, I'm NOT going to buy it and I'm NOT going to "put it in my blu-ray player and enjoy it" because I will absolutely NOT enjoy a movie with a uniform green tint layered over it.

I sincerely hope this helps you to understand why some people are up-in-arms about this. YOU already have a copy of FOTR you're satisfied with... many people DON'T, which is why we can't "move along."

If they can issue an entire four hour film with a mistaken green tint, I can't see any reason they couldn't snip a couple of shots out of it for a trailer. Obviously, if they SAW the mistake, they wouldn't have issued it this way to begin with.

Warner needs to do the right thing and offer a disc exchange for existing customers. This is the LoTR, not the Matrix or Avatar.

Watched the Two Towers last night. It definitely looks better than FOTR--though I though FOTR looked very good to my non-videophile eyes.

I didn't consciously notice any color difference though, TTT just looked sharper.

For many on this forum, this is the most important thing.

On my side, I like the Extended Editions as they are now. I also have them on DVD with the original color timings so that's a plus. I was able to score four of them for about $32 each so I am giving three away as gifts. So far I've only received positive feedback from all my recipients even after I told them about the green tint.

Actually it didn't take long at all because you repeat that line so often.

Just popping my head in to see if there has been any statement from Jackson or Lesnie themselves over the green tint (not just the vague WB statement)???
No?

ah well, will check again in a few days!
I'd love to join in the fun again, but I think everything I can say has been said (and everything said against that has also been said)

So unless a new statement from Mr Jackson comes out, maybe best to chat about the extras etc, I too would be intrigued to hear more about the extra docs, as I never bought the DVDs that included the CB docs.

It is clear as day that the transfer that is on the EE blu rays is intentional made by PJ. Thats why warner made that statement because it is accurate and intentional

Or, WB said that so as not to skew sales over the HUGE 4th of July weekend. They will probably make an announcement after they tally up the sales and have time to figure out the cost of a re-issue.

+1

How come James Cameron doesn't release Avatar with a red hue?

Just a quick question: Has anyone bought the EE Blus and not liked them? I have bought them, but they are unopened. Does anyone think that they will drop in price within the next week or two?

If Warner has lied and this transfer has not been approved by Peter Jackson, they might be legally liable to offer a replacement disc. Doesn't seem likely to me that they are lying. They have too much at stake.

It still points to an issue, nonetheless.
I would compare the non-tinted digital to the tinted one using the council of Elrond scene. There's significantly different color grading in the scene on the new HD master, even apart from the tint, so if the non-tinted digital copy has the new timing for that scene, that's a very good indication that something is wrong.

Sorry as tempting as it is, I will not buy this with the green tint even if they do say it was intentional. I hope they offer non-tinted ones soon.

I nonetheless think it's correct, but I'll look into again later today to see if there's some reason it might be wrong.

Take care,

There is no chance that warner would lie. would do they have to gain from that nothing. All they will get from that is a law suit from PJ. Trust me what warner isues is the truth its just that somehere don't believe that which baffles me

Further evidence that the there is no mistake with the transfer and was the same at the theaters can be found here which PJ approved and said it was the same as the new blu rays:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120737/...?p=1#184184347
Quote:
The amount of fine detail visible was indeed very clear. I saw the film 7 times in the theater, and I don't remember some of that detail being so sharp. Of course, that was also 10 years ago... But certainly seeing it huge on a big screen helped, and I think the remaster has enhanced that too.

Apparently some of the color timing has been changed by PJ. This sometimes bugged me because it looked to me like some scenes were just too dark. And I wasn't sure if it was the theater to blame or PJ. Like the snows on Caradhras looked too blue to me at times. But then the bright light elements were so bright, I thought maybe it's not the projection. When Arwen comes glowing on the screen, she's GLOWING.

And yeah, maybe the CG does look better. I remember the one shot I always hated was the digital doubles going down the stairs in Moria. It always looked fake to me. It didn't look nearly so bad this time (though it also seemed darker, and maybe this covered a multitude of sins).

But pleased all in all, and looking forward to the next two!

-TK
The evidence is so clear that there is no mistake. The transfer that is on the blu rays is accurate of what PJ has in mind for FOTR. Its just weird that some don't believe this even after warner came out and said there is no error with the transfer

Three of these things belong together,
Three of these things are kind of the same.
Can you guess which one of these doesn't belong here?
Now it's time to play our game.

Take a look at the four attached images, two from FotR, TE and EE; two from TT, TE and EE. I find it very interesting that three of the attached images have a fully consistent color scheme/brightness, while one is clearly inconsistent (greenish, dim). If anything, the image from the EE of "Two Towers" is slightly LESS greenish than the image from the TE!

I won't argue about intention (was this green tint intentional or not?--how could we ever really know?--and don't quote a PR announcement, please). All I know is that I can't watch the FotR EE with its (to me) sickly color and dimness. I've tried to adjust my display just for FotR, but it never looks right, so unless there's a disc replacement I'll watch the EE version of FotR on DVD, which I've had to repurchase on eBay, since I had sold my copy before buying the Blu-ray. I'd rather sacrifice resolution than color accuracy. I've also ordered the TE Blu-ray set, which I never intended to do, so this is costing me money!

Anyway, do look at my four images and play the "which doesn't belong" game--and then I'll shut up...this issue deserves no more time, and it certainly isn't worth fighting over and being offensive/defensive.

Too many on sites like this and AVS forums care more about nitpicking transfers and discussing them online than they do just sitting back and enjoying movies.

Not necessarily anything wrong with that, as everyone has their own hobbies I suppose. So what ever floats their boat I guess.
