There are only 7 reviews posted for FotR EE at WBshop.com.

http://www.wbshop.com/Lord-Of-The-Ri...W#ReviewHeader

Not surprising, given the list price of over $80. I might try to leave a review as a guest.

Edit: O.K. I was able to post a review as a guest. If anyone is interested, you can also attach videos, screen caps, etc. I'll see if it actually gets posted with the other 7 reviews. That will probably take a few days, just as it does with reviews posted to BB and Amazon. A quick look at the 7 posted reviews revealed 2 disks per movie as a Con. (as opposed to pro) No mention of tint issue in any of the reviews.

Its kind of funny when the biggest complaint is about people have to change discs while viewing the movie.

Seriously? Wow.

I wont start my rant again on people being too lazy to get up and change discs, but seeing comments like "I won't be buying because it requires me to get up and change discs" make it so laughably funny.

The excuse "changing discs takes me out of the movie" are almost as funny.

Ridiculous trivial responses....

They aren't that funny.

BD shouldn't have touted it as a selling feature in the first place. Bigging up the storage capacity without explaining that that storage capacity is necessary to just contain HD versions of the same amount of content.

It's the principle of it, not laziness. I usually lift weights and shadowbox and stuff when I am watching movies anyway, but knowing the format still requires multiple discs for one movie is a bit of a disappointment.

Does it require a lot of effort to roll your car window up manually? No. But I'd still much prefer power windows and consider it an important feature.

The only thing that bugs me is that these discs take a terribly long time to load in my player. I don't mind the disc swap but good grief it took forever to load that stupid BD-J crap this last time I tried to watch it... Why couldn't they have left that off like they did with the Theatricals and I would have been super happy... I don't use the BD-Live stuff anyway

"Director Peter Jackson and Cinematographer Andrew Lesnie adjusted the film's color timing before approving the new master use for this release. The difference is not subtle. Shadows are darker, greens and cyans are more saturated, and other colors are shaded different, resulting in a revionist appearance unlike the other films in the trilogy, both previoiusly released on DVD and in theatrical versions on Blu-ray Disc. The blanket tint is present throughout, though, flashback scenes from Fellowship that appear in the other two films are sans the green/cyan tint."

Well that review sums it up perfectly. It is revisionist, looks very different and nothing like the sequels!

The BD-J adds the resume play feature which is a huge must for something of this length.

Yep! And I remain unconvinced that Jackson & Lesnie approved what we are seeing on the FOTR EE Blu-ray disc.

No, the BD-J removes the resume play feature. I could turn off my BD player with the Theatricals and turn it back on and start up where I left off... GOD FORBID I accidently hit the stop button on my remote during the extended versions... its annoying to have to find your place again AFTER the BD-J layer loads.

BD-J programming language prevents the Resume feature, it has to "boot up" every time you start to play the disc.

Mine asks me if I want to resume the feature. So, I guess they both have it?

Hmmm... maybe I don't have it b/c I have an older player maybe? And maybe you and I are talking about it different kind of resume. I'm talking about the old DVD resume, where it doesn't ask, it just resumes where you stopped.

AVATAR does ask me if I want to resume, it pops up and everything, so maybe that resume feature is the one you are talking about, I dont know. That might be built in to the BD-J language, but without BD-J it wouldn't even be a necessity...

Kind of like how movies AREN'T books... different medium, different rules, different pacing, different ways of storytelling. Just because something is effective in one doesn't mean it'll work in the other.

My PS3 resumes on a film-by-film basis. It won't just do it naturally. Some films allow a resume, whether automatically, or with a little menu (two recent examples being LOTR and Platoon).

I was able to get the extended FotR watched over this past weekend. For the most part it looked great to me but there were a few parts of the movie where the colors just looked off to me. I've set up my Samsung LCD with the DVE disc but it hasn't been professionally calibrated.

The opening of the movie in the Shire looked muted and dull & not vibrant like I remember those scenes being. The shots inside of Isengard when Gandalf visits Saruman looked bad. Saruman's robe & beard definitely had an odd green tint to them. The Caradhras scenes looked poor to me as well. There was a scene on disc 2 that slips my mind that looked off to me as well.

I thought the movie generally looked great & the few bad scenes didn't kill it for me. It's been years since I've watched it so it was a real treat to see it again. I'd almost forgotten how much I hate the scene with Galadriel telling Frodo how she would be if she possessed the Ring. Can't wait for The Two Towers this weekend!

i have a question for those that own the set / will own the set...

are you really gonna use the digital copies?!

i mean, seriously, i use my digital copies, but rarely ever finish a film on my ipod (use it during lunch at work and other short moments). and it takes me like, 5 minutes (give or take) to download the copy and transfer it.

how freaking long are these films gonna take?!
and how much space will they take up on an ipod? 30 freaking GB's?!

i mean, chances are it would take twice as long as all three films combined to finally get these bad boys ON my ipod.

just seems like a baffling choice to be added to this set. the dvd's i could kind of understand, but not digital copies...

so. anyone use them?

I could see myself loading them on to my iPad for an international flight or something depending on file size (should be fine since I have the 32gb model and have barely put a dent in the memory). With the 10 hour battery life I could at least finish 2 of them and part of the third!

I wouldn't bother for just a smartphone or iPod touch etc. though as I don't like watching things on a screen that small.
