Open it, watch it, love it.
I have been one of the most vocal proponents of the Disc Exchange program, but I absolutely don't regret my purchase at all. The green tint is noticeable, but it's the continuity and my own slight OCD tendencies that bug me about it, I don't think it "uglies up" the picture as much as some do. If this were a gladiator arena, I'd give it... ![]() |

I've seen the films all the way through once, thought they were good enough. I've only seen the extended versions, I feel no need to own the theatrical versions. If this set hadn't included NINE DVDS, I may have bought it. I simply will never, ever watch the extras on this set anyway, and I just can't see having NINE DVDS added to a box on my shelf for nothing. I just don't care enough about the films to support such an asinine studio decision. Yes, I'm sure many think that is silly - but I think it's silly for them to do it to begin with. I'll just borrow them when I feel like watching the films someday, but these movies don't do enough for me that I felt buying it was worth it once the NINE DVDS put my decision over the edge of "I'm all set". |

Watching Return of the King (which looked and sounded good) has solidified my satisfaction in not buying this set myself. My god the extended edition is overlong
![]() I'll wait until WB gets the theatricals right. |

I think they should have gone with all the extras for each film on one BD per film and condensed the set into 9 discs total, all Blu and no DVDs. However, the shelf space thing is not really a strong reason to disavow it. I know, you mean it's the principle, it's what it represents... I feel that. The package is actually really nice and elegant though, very well put-together and compact... but yes, all that is moot if you're not a huge fan of the films. |

When I watched the EE I was actually pretty shocked by how well it was paced and how much shorter it felt, especially since I took a break between the first and second discs. |

Don't get me wrong, if it were up to me, I would definitely use 1 Blu-ray for each movie. I understand people not wanting them on DVDs because they're on 3 discs. But some people don't like it simply because they're DVDs, not because there are 3 of them.
More simply, say if each movie had been released on DVD with 1 DVD of extras, and they just included those single DVDs on this release, I feel like those people would still complain just because it's a DVD. Plus, each disc has a few hours of extras to watch, so chances are most people won't watch them all in one sitting. ![]() Last edited by gregmasciola; 07-08-2011 at 07:14 AM. |

Once they go more to the center of the tower there is nos strong (blue) colour in the Theatrical Blu-Ray or SEE DVD. In the EE BD the blue light is greenish and the core of the tower still covers Saruman in green tint. Last edited by Lope de Aguirre; 07-08-2011 at 10:11 AM. |

A lot of people have been complaining (what else is new? haha) about the movies being split onto 2 discs when they could have fit the whole movie on one Blu-Ray disc. To be honest, I like it for more than the sole reason that the quality is a bit better (from what I hear). The other reason is so it allows me to have a piss break and to grab myself some more drinks and food!

I like the split. It gives me the chance to view the series as a sort of mini-series. Each episode is around 2.5 hours and the penultimate episode has a fantastic cliffhanger.
I'll be able to divide up my viewing into six nights, and if I'm watching them all at once, I'll get up and stretch my legs to switch the disc and get a snack or use the restroom. If the films were released on 1 disc each, people would complain about the compression and how much better it'd look if it was 2 discs. Even if it looked fantastic on one disc, there would be people who would say something like, "Tolkien always saw the series as one piece" and would want all three movies on one disc so that they would never need to get up during the 13 hours it takes to watch all of those films together. |

Boy, you guys sure do go outta your way to find things to B!tch about. I mean really guys....... "it's on 2 discs and I have to get up off my lazy ass to change it over?" "Why would you want digital copies for 4 hour movies?" ....is anyone on this forum actually happy with this set to the point that they don't have to nitpick about it? If so, can we get 10 pages of that for a change?
Here, let me go first, the packaging of this set is what's really striking to me. I like the image of the ring on the front of the box. If you hold it in the light the writings kinda look like they are glowing a bit. When you open it and you see the map, then those awesome black cases. I swear, if they sold black cases with the Blu-ray logo in gold I seriously would be tempted to buy some of those for other films in my collection. One of the best things is, instead of being some massive multi-disc foldout, it has the flip trays. They make it look neater and helps the design take up a little less space. I've pretty much decided to sell off this set as I've come to the realization that I just don't need a physical copy of the Rings films anymore. I have the extended digital copies and that's going to be enough.
Honestly, when I look at my shelf, I'll go to Godfather, Bourne, Star Wars, Potter, Pirates, and the Matrix series' before I even remotely get to the Rings trilogy. I'm just sort of done with the series. I was hoping this box set would change that but nope. I just can't get through the last two pictures, no matter which version it is. |

Return Of The King FOTR flashback comparison pics for those interested in post 3543 (thanks 42041). Also check out post 3548 for an interesting split screen.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...07189&page=119 It is interesting just how much the green impacts not only the obvious parts of the picture such as shirts and skies, but also various colors ![]() |
