It's just my personal feelings, mind you. I know some of you are into collecting stuff, my comments are not meant to offend. Just my own personal feelings on what constitute 'bonus content'. Analytical or biographical material = bonus content for me. I bought the Dirty Harry Collection - I opened it and found out it came with some cheap badge and other crap. I just thnk of such things as cheap junk, when I buy a blu, I want insight, analysis, biography - not toys.

But its not a 6 disc set. The set is 15 discs.....*****ing about that over and over and over is not going to make this a 6 disc set. Either buy what they are offering or dont. IMO, this is the biggest no brainer buy yet if you love the EE versions of these films.

The only problem I have with 2 discs is it sort of cuts into the flow of a movie. Now Kingdom of Heaven the DC dvd handled it perfectly, it ends with intermission (fade to black) and then it starts a new as the break was intended.

Now seeing this is a WB release, the past 2 parter dvd I had was, Green Mile, it just ends and then starts on the second disc. It was annoying, it felt like a piece of footage was missing, ruined the flow entirely. Hopefully this has a good edit.

Personally I'm worried about a good transfer and I hope they don't do a double dip or triple dip with the movie on one disc that'd be stingful but I bought the set for 63, got 5 dollars off of tax so yeah. Looks like I have all the boxsets I need except Bourne trilogy. Need to get that.

The extended versions of these movies are split at pretty good spots, especially Fellowship. The first half ends right after the council of Elrond scene when Pippin says "where are we going?" I don't think the splits ruin the flow at all in these movies.

I bought the Dirty Harry Collection - wanted to vomit when I opened it and found out it came with some cheap badge and other crap. Hate bulk, hate clutter. Hollywood - keep my shelves clean, put your bonus content on the discs, avoid plastic crap imported from some sweatshop hellhole.
No hard feelings at all. Just posted it cause I know some will be interested.Still keeping my preorder with Amazon for $43.99 that's with a $25 gc applied and a $15 promotion credit from them.

Fellowship of the Ring had a very natural intermission, I thought. The book FOTR is broke into two books, and the intermission of FOTR the movies comes at the end of the first book of FOTR so it was a natural intermission in the story. The Two Towers and especially Return of the King's weren't so good though. I think this is more a result of the restructuring of the story when they translated it to film. They moved at a a faster pace, and didn't have as clean of a midpoint as FOTR did. Had they been able to leave they left the stories of Frodo and Sam and the rest of the fellowship seperate instead of intermingling them I think intermissions would have worked great, but as it stands I just dont feel intermissions work to well in TTT and ROTK. Of course, making one half of the movie solely about Frodo and Sam would have been a tough sale. Although, I would love if Peter Jackson went back, and restructerd the last two films as they are in the books with Frodo and Sam's story being one half of the film with the rest of the Fellowship's story being the other half for a future release. It would make the Mouth of Sauron scene carry alot more wait, because then you wouldn't know if Frodo is actually dead, because the last thing you saw was Frodo getting hauled off to Cirith Ungle (sp) at the end of TTT. This is a pipe dream of course, and this structure doesn't really work in a cinematic way. Or imagine if on top of that it was edited as one long movie like Tolkien wanted the LOTR to be one book instead of split up. Heck, just get HBO to do a mini series some time down the road as a companion piece to Jackson's films. That would be pretty sweet.

And if WB had brought the EEs out on one disc each, the same ones complaining about 2 discs would complain about 1 disc each. Complaining is a hobby for some folks.
And what do you mean by that!?!? I can't STAND it when people sit around and complain about others complaining!!!

This is why I consider Blade Runner the best BD release of all time (so far). I know 2 of the discs were DVD's but I don't care about that. It had 5 versions of the movie (including workprint) and a TON of extra stuff, packaged in a nice neat little case (I didn't get the briefcase edition). The GWtW and TWoO releases are pretty jam packed too! (Scarlett and Emerald Editions, no fluff)

Maybe so, but I'm not waiting several years for it.

Marketing 101, as you call it, would have WB release The Hobbit on BD, then later release it on 3D BD, then later still release the Ultimate Set in 2D, then the Ultimate Set in 3D sometime after that.

I'm not waiting that long.

No it doesn't. Book One ends with Frodo blacking out at the Ford after the Nazgul are swept away. The break that occured in the EE DVDs was more or less at the end of Chapter 2 of Book Two, "The Council of Elrond".

With all the extras on this set I don't know what extra an "Ultimate Collection" could include. Despite my complaints about too many discs I will by buying this set. I skipped out on the theatrical edition Blu-Rays and as long as these are given great high definition transfers I will be satisfied.

The only thing that can make me buy the trilogy yet again are 3D conversions and/or 4k releases. Which I think we will both eventually see.

As far as 2D Blu-Ray is concerned I can't imagine what more anyone could want that this release doesn't provide.

somewhere in this thread someone posted that Jackson has more deleted scenes he would include in the future ultimate edition. But as extras not part of the film, so I probably won't be double dipping. When it comes to the whole 3D debacle, I think the only 3D that looks good are films actually filmed in 3d. Conversions suck (Narnia, Titen movie released last year).

Not true. 3D conversions can look great if given the proper time and money. Conversions have gotten a bad rap thanks to some really shoddy ones like Clash of the Titans and The Last Airbender. I recommend watching Alice in Wonderland or Narnia 3 in 3D. Despite being conversions they still nearly matched native 3D.

Peter Jackson will not allow a shoddy or cheap conversion. I garuntee when Lord of the Rings are converted they will look great.

I agree, but Alice was shot knowing it was going to be converted to 3d which makes a difference. Having said that, I agree that Alice looks awesome in 3d and IMO looks better than some native 3d titles I have watched.

I am certainly open to a 3d conversion of LOTR though.

Based on when the movies finally made it to BD, I'd say we have a minimum 4-5 years before there is any hint of a 3D conversion. By then, the 3D fad will be over, IMO.

What does it take to convince the haters that 3D is not going away.

The Hobbit is being shot as a native 3D movie and Peter Jackson would have shot the first trilogy the same way if the cameras were avalible. 3D haters a definable market and a strong fanbase. IT AIN'T GOING AWAY.

you hope? why are you on a blu-ray forum if you hope that poor quality presentation of movies at home becomes the only way to watch them? with ISPs now implementing bandwidth caps it certainly aint getting better...
