There are a few groups in this debate:

1. Those who hate the tint.....period.

2. Those who love the tint......period.

3. Those who don't mind the tint, but given the opportunity to have the movie without it, would get a replacement disc if offered.

4. Those who think the tint works in certain parts of the movie, but who would like to see other scenes put back the way they were. Basically a more thoughful frame by frame-scene by scene approach instead of the "oh well, lets just be lazy and globally tint the whole thing."

Have I left anybody out? Personally, I'm in the #4 group.

Obviously not everyone is satisfied that a dull tint applied to just one out of the three movies was intentional, and I really don't think a vague statement from a huge corporation saying that color grading changes were made really addresses our concern. We know that the color grading changes were made, but from my understanding, color grading is a completely different thing than applying a blanket tint to the whole of just one movie.

We are voicing our opinion in the hopes that we might get a copy of FotR without the overly dark contrast and green tint. If nobody ever said anything about things like this, there would be no such thing as disc replacement programs.

Don't get me wrong, I love all three of these films, I think the audio is spectacular on all three, the box set is beautifully made, I don't really mind that the special features are on DVDs since they were shot in SD, the transfers of TTT and ROTK are better than ever, and I honestly think the detail in FOTR is by far better than it's ever been.

I do find it rather odd that Peter Jackson has not said one word about this at all. He has always been very outspoken to his fans about every aspect of his films, and the reasoning behind the decisions that he's made while making them. If he is in complete agreement with Warner, why not come out and assure his fans that it was intentional? It seems like the best way to quash all of the negativity.

I think I can still voice my opinion on this matter civilly, and I have no desire to tell anyone else to "get over it" or "shut up" or to say "enough already" as a lot of people on here have done. I have never used the ignore function, because I want to hear all sides of this debate. It doesn't bother me in the least when people discuss the many different facets of this package, the films themselves, the transfer, the book, etc.

Honestly, I just love these stories. The books and the films. That is why I show my concern.

This blu-ray box set is precious to me, though I buy it with a great pain.
The markings on the Fellowship that were once clear begin to fade to a dull green. A secret now that only a disc replacement program can tell.

The green tint works in just a few parts.

It's funny how everyone is up in arms about the tint, but no one mentions the slight cropping/re-framing of the image between the theatricals and the EEs... yet everyone wants the two different blu-rays to match EXACTLY.

O.K. That explains why my first try at adding a review didn't register. I didn't add my email address. I just got my "verified reviewer" email confirmation.

Headline: Green Tint on Fellowship?

Pros : Great Cinematography
Cons : Disappointing, Blanket Green Tint
Best Uses : At Home
Describe Yourself : Movie Buff

WB PR release still begs the question about why what appears to be a blanket green tint on Fellowship of the Rings is present. It creates dissonance when watched with the other two EE Disks. If it was intentional, could we get someone to expand on the WB PR release? Preferably, the filmmakers or someone in post-production/authoring that made the decision to add the tint." (end of WBshop email confirm)

I noticed that in a lot of comparison shots I've seen online, especially the ones on dvdscreenshotcompare.com, or whatever that site is, where you roll-over to see the different shots. I'm in agreement thinking it's odd that it hasn't been mentioned. I don't have my dvd versions anymore to do the comparison myself, so I can't put 100% stock in them actually being framed differently, and not just an error in the site's capturing process.

Yes, at least we know they aren't editing out critical reviews. In my opinion, facebook is probably the best place to register concerns about the tint. At last count, there were 42 comments re color timing/grading:

All I can say is I'm very glad that TT and ROTK look so great. After seeing how detailed FOTR was going to be by seeing some of the screenshots, I was kind of afraid that the other two movies wouldn't look quite as good. Luckily that's not the case. To me those two are nearly reference quality.

just bought this set today, have been reading this thread everyday, getting info of the green tint and all, and now i will have to watch it for myself
i was holding off and not gona buy it because ppl beleive the tint is a error, and if it is, then ill be safe knowing my disc can be replaced(if it comes to that)
but i do believe that the tint is indeed intentional, these movies mean too much to PJ and the fans for him/WB to mess them up again(1st only releasing theatrical blu rays, with a soft FOTR transfer)
i will just have to watch FOTR later on tonight and see if the tint bothers me, or if i even see it alot on my tv, i have my white balances and hue set different than standard(self calibrating)
just gona kick back roll some green and see if i see the green

1st time watching the extended editions too, so im very excited

Not sure about some of you guys but I've received an email on Amazon, saying they're having a sweepstakes to get a free copy of the Extended Edition signed by Peter Jackson and 5 will be the winner. I'm entered myself, hope I win.

Did anyone get the BB exclusive? how are the figures? cheap plastic? die cast? My local BB has a few of those left and i am debating on if i should just get the normal extended edition or the BB exclusive.

Kinda bummed it didn't come with a ring replica, figured this would of been the perfect chance for a store to do that.

A lot of people have been looking at Peter Jackson's lack of comment in this regard:

"Of COURSE Peter Jackson isn't going to say anything! He's doing two movies for the company right now! You don't think he wants to mess THAT up, do you?!"

Except, a lot of people tend to forget that because of issues with the studio, Jackson WASN'T going to be doing The Hobbit. But over times, things changed, and Jackson ended up taking the reigns. It's probably more likely the studio wouldn't want to step on HIS toes since they have the original director of the original LOTR trilogy doing The Hobbit films.
