No he did a video of unboxing it and said it was from US. It had no bbfc ratings on it and the cases were blue and thinner(at least that's how they looked to me) than the UK ones.

But like I said it's probably some European box set and he just accidentally said otherwise.

Who knows. I'll guess I'll have to find the vid again.

I notice I forgot to mention the name of the particular person who came forward and spoke on behalf of Peter Jackson back then in responding to that past solitary internet query from that cinephile/hobbyist about the digital colorist tools used on the theatrical version of ‘The Two Towers’, back in the day. It was some fellow by the name of ……

Peter Doyle…http://www.ukscreenassociation.co.uk...s.htm?aId=3061

And for the record, Peter Doyle’s detailed response on that matter was actually quite well received by 99.9% of the members of that board.

As to the FOTR Blu-ray controversy, I really don’t think this is a case of people being *too busy*, as there are numerous examples on the internet of Producers, Directors as well as their cinematographers, camera operators, DITs, etc. giving interviews, forum postings, tweets, or Facebook entries during the course of the production of a major feature film. On the contrary, I think that PJ is quite into *social media* himself, when he desires to be.

And even if he truly is too preoccupied to offer a personal response, it’s difficult to believe that he can’t rather effortlessly, with a quick phone call, delegate this chore to someone else who was physically present in the D.I. suite during the color re-grade…..unless PJ is being handcuffed by some entity or set of circumstances.

Thanks for the reply Penton-Man!

I agree, I don't expect a quick response after weeks of silence, and as you say ("marketing machine"), with presumably millions upon millions of these sets in retailers all over the globe, it's something they likely don't want to address at all if they can avoid it.

I just wonder if they couldn't use the same vague "we endorse the DNR but we are offering viewers an 'alternate viewing experience'" statement that Paramount used in the case of Gladiator, or if that would be different in this case, in that it would expose them to some kind of legal ramifications. I don't want them dragged through the mud, I just want an... "alternate viewing experience".

Fortunately for us, this issue is not as bad as the Gladiator issue, the set still looks great, it's just a bit of a smudge on the overall presentation and it will rightly annoy some more than others.

I appreciate the insight as always, as well as the reply.

I popped in FOTR EE on blu-ray yesterday for the first time, and while I definitely noticed the green tint, I still believe it looks a million times better than the TE of FOTR. It absolutely looked gorgeous! Now, having said that, I watched the beginning of Two Towers last night and it was amazing! This is how FOTR SHOULD look. While I believe FOTR still does look excellent, I wish it matched the superior excellence of TT and if a trade-in program takes place like with Gladiator, I will gladly take part. But I will say that watching FOTR is FAR from unbearable like the Gladiator debacle and it IS an improvement over the TE.

For those anal about this sort of thing - I'd recommend taking the BD's out of the box thing (unless you don't plan on oepning it much.) The black paint has completely worn away from the crease where the front of my case opens up, just from opening it. Looks pretty bad.

Can you snap a pic? That's terrible. Besides not opening it, is there anything to do to prevent this from happening?

I've noticed that if I flip the box over, with it closed, to where I'm looking at the back of it, the crease on the right side where it opens is indeed looking different. Only where the black is, I can see some "cracks" where I see silver instead of black. Is that what you're talking about?

Yeah, I can when I get back to my place. My camera is pretty shitty though, but I'll see if I can get a pic that shows it.

I don't think it's possible to prevent from happening. It's just a matter of paint being on the crease that "bends." Not opening and closing it would obviously prevent it, short of that I can't think of anything.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Underneath the paint it's shiny and silver, know idea why, but it is. That crease is where it hinges when you open it, it gets worse over time I've noticed. The black paint wears away.

Again, this is all pretty anal stuff I'm sure most won't care about. Personally I don't really care all that much, I don't mind how they look in my rack taken out of the box (I actually prefer it,) but I know quite a few people do so I though I'd just throw it out there.

I've colored it in, in the area where it is happening on the far left of the picture. It appears to only be happening in the black area.

This happened to me as well, though there is only a thin line of paint missing but it is noticeable. i would recommend not bending the flap of the box backwards when opening. What i mean is only letting the flap go as far as lining up with the BDs not any further (and that still could be too far). i noticed the missing paint immediately after letting the flap bend backwards. hope that helps

And heres a fun little diagram for illustrative purposes and so i dont have to risk bending the box any more

Yep, that's exactly right. Same with mine, only in the black area. The gold paint doesn't appear to be affected for whatever reason.

I'll try to get a good pic of it later. And like I said, it gets worse the more it's opened/closed. I've had mine since its release day so obviously mine has been opened and shut a shit load, but I always open it gently and everything, I take good care of my shit so it isn't a matter of it being opened too harshly or handled roughly.

I just took a look at my box that I haven't even opened and I already see a tiny scratch of exposed silver on the side. We are obviously dealing with a piece of crap box here.

I'm calling for a box recall. Now watch all the apologists defend the box.

I care, Stinky!

Really, this stuff does kind of bug me. We're all gushing over how nice the bundle looks, but at what cost? I don't need cool, metallic paint if it's going to rub off and look like crap.

I just checked mine, and sure enough it is missing black paint, not even on the seam because I've been careful about opening it, but on the back, where I laid it on a shelf and a table for a few days.

Like you said, it's a fairly anal complaint, but I mean come onnnn... is it too much to ask that this (hopefully) last time they release this trilogy on phys. media doesn't have a bunch of little things marring it?

But, the cracks and missing paint give it a rustic look.
I think this was the directors intent, I mean Warner already told us everything is deliberate, right?

I found a camera here and grabbed a couple pictures. To be honest it doesn't really bother me at all because I won't be storing it with the box (and to me the movie is far more important than the packaging), but for those that do I figure it might be useful. I can see how it would piss people off, though.

It started out barely visible and seems to get worse the more it's opened:

Those little white specks and red spot on the back aren't really there, must've been caused by the camera.
