I can see how it would piss people off, though.

It started out barely visible and seems to get worse the more it's opened:

Mine isn't quite as bad as yours yet. I'd say mine is about 60% to where yours is. It's not that big of a deal really. I may just take them out of the box and put them on the rack with the rest of my blu-rays.

By the way, Boone says he has the set, but is afraid to open it. I would say go ahead. The movies are all great, the sound quality on all three movies is great, TTT and ROTK both look great, and even FOTR looks better than ever, even with the dull tint. If they don't have a replacement, then you'll still have the best version available, and if they do, then you would probably have to have the set anyway to get the replacement discs. While it does bother me, for the most part, it's really not that bad overall.
What do you guys think?

It does not look that serious. Shame though that you have to pay a lot of money and you get defective products one after another.

Yeah, I'd say for fans it's definitely worth it (especially if you already have it but haven't yet opened it. No reason not to.)

I think there are serious issues with it but overall it's pretty nice. I just wish they'd fix the color timing and contrast issues. Rather than re-typing my mini-review of the PQ I'll just link what I already posted. AQ is fantastic (unless you live in Germany where the dub is out of sync, or something.)

Great diagram.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Yeah I also say go for it.

It's unfortunate that the special features are on DVD, one movie has a dull tint that the other two do not, some blacks are crushed in FOTR, and now apparently the box likes to chafe... but even with those issues I'd still give the whole package a 9/10. Fix the green and I'd give it a 9.9. The other issues can share .1 because they really aren't enough to annoy me.

Either way I consider it an essential addition to anyone's Blu-ray collection.

As has been said, it's the best it has looked or sounded, and waiting might be an exercise in futility because it's not likely that they will offer any sort of disc exchange since most of the J6P purchasers will never notice it.

Mad Money guy would say BUY BUY BUY!

I haven't tried it yet and I'm not going to have the time today, but someone might also try sampling some of the color on the "Lord Of The Rings" Title which (I believe) appears against a black backdrop on all three movies.

You know, the one that's in the gold lettering?

That might be useful for pointing out yet another divergence from the other two films that couldn't be reasonably considered artistic intent.

Awesome diagram and pictures, thanks to both members. That worn off crease makes it look crappy. Can't Warner do anything right? First they screw up Green Lantern and now this, awesome!

Well if it was intended and ALL points to just that with the warner statement and all. What can warner do about it then.
Do you you see where i am going at.PJ is the boss of these transfers not warner

Well then why do you care?

Let him waste his time if you think that's what he's doing. I really don't understand your motivation for defending it to this degree.

If he has a problem with it, let him speak on it.

Probably not worth it. I posted a long, well-written review there when the review option first became available and even though I'm a "verified reviewer" they never posted it. If you go into too much detail about the color timing and contrast issues they're probably tossed aside or deleted or something.

So you really still think more points to a mistake then intended. Even after warners official statement saying no mistake is on the transfer?

I have opened and closed the box about 6 or 7 times, without experiencing this issue. It is designed to be opened on a flat surface, so the hinge is not flexed beyond 180 degrees.

Bummer, thanks. I think the lesson to be learned here though is to keep it short, to the point and fair. Not saying you did not do that, but quite a few of the reviews on there mention the green tint so they are definitely not filtering out those reviews/comments in general. I think it is worth making a comment/review over there for all those who are questioning the tint since it certainly cant hurt to try.

Curious if my review will post. I did not go overboard and felt I was fair with my assessment, but we will see.

Even so, mine is worn away on the back just from being set on a table while I watched the movies. Just regular use. No sense trying to baby the case, it will end up with chipped paint. I've just accepted it.

You won't have to wait long. I submitted mine yesterday and it was posted in the reviews this morning. There are some very long critiques from people there. As yet, I haven't seen any reviews that include screencaps even though they can be included.

Sorry if this has been asked already, but 10,000 posts is a lot to read through. Can anybody who bought this tell me if the blu-ray extended addition has any new/extended scenes compared to the DVD extended edition or if the content is the same? Wikipedia says the blu-ray extended edition run-time is longer than the DVD EE which suggests there would be new (or longer) scenes, but the product description on the Best Buy and Future Shop (Canada) websites says the run-time is the same as the DVD EE. I know there are still a lot of deleted scenes that weren't included in the DVD EE and was hoping Peter Jackson used this release as an opportunity to include some of those. Would be much appreciated if anybody could confirm
