I have only done it once - all 3 EE dvds back to back. I think I started around 12 noon and finished around midnight. Don't know if I could do it again though! Since the EE Blu's came out I've just been watching 1 film each weekend - this weekend it's ROTK

I usually do a marathon from 1pm to 1am. I sit with enough beer to last 12 hours and rock on. I end up being pretty drunk, lol.

It HAVE to be a rainy day though, i can't stay inside all day long if it's sunny outside.

Jeffrey,

My BDP-S570 is connected to the internet and was updated to Software version M04.R.752 long before I experienced this issue with the WB Lord of the Rings Blu-ray disks. That is the latest update available for the BDP-S570. You need to get the information provided to whomever prepares updates for disk issues. The disks perform perfectly on my PS3. All menus appear correctly, so the issue is not with the disks, it is with the player. The same problem has been reported by owners of earlier Sony model players as well. This is an urgent matter. People think the disks or players are defective and are attempting to return them. Please see these complaints:

http://www.amazon.com/Disc-2-Not-wor...7H20&store=dvd

I have posted a temporary work around on blu-ray.com where many have posted the same problem:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-pl...ml#post4912737

Please maintain Case ID 1652581 for this issue. I have asked others to report this issue to you for other Sony players affected by it:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-mo...ml#post4950157

I'm trying not to be redundant, but if you have a Sony player other than a BDP S 570, it would be helpful if you report it to Sony to get them to move along with the fix.
Thank you for the update. I also have a BDP-S570 and had the same problem with the second disc of all three movies. I used the chapter advance from the player's sidebar menu to bring up the pop-up menu on the disk to play it.

Aside from the second disc playing issue (which is a player issue) I thoroughly enjoyed the enhancement of the blu-ray over the DVD versions; even with the "officially changed" colorations in TFotR.

I haven't yet managed to be able to watch all three EE movies in one sitting (the best I've managed is two).

My best accomplishment with the EE is to get my 8-year-old to watch the whole set with me over a three night marathon.

Doesn't seem to show up on the website. Maybe it's sold out?

Overstock apparently had a LOT of pricing errors this morning. I think even game consoles were on sale for like, 10 and 20 bucks a pop. Orders based on the pricing errors for whatever reason, as far as I know, were being canceled.

Lotr barely looks dated. It looks much more real than most of the stuff today.

It does look dated in a few places but you know saying the effects look dated take's nothing away from the movies, they are still great.

You can say that if you want but if you are honest with yourself, movies like Avatar were dated when they came out. Even Jurassic park cgi holds up better.

I rented the trilogy when the theatrical versions were released, and boy, did it look dated, but honestly, the VFX of LOTR were dated from the get go.
Weta did a good job on KK though (mostly).
It's about the movies anyway, and the PT is going to hold up nicely on Blu-ray.

Are you guys going to invite friends over to watch the Saga on Blu-ray?

Default Reading The Books

Hello everyone! I was thinking about reading all of the books before the Hobbit comes out. I gather that the best order is the Simillarion, Hobit, LOTR trilogy and lastly unfinished tales. Is there any works I am missing and can anyone comment on The Simillarion, and Unfinished Tales? Thanks.

I read the silmarillian after I read the hobbit and the lord of the rings. I found it quite hard to get into but then a year later I gave it another go and I absolutely loved it. I think it's very different to the hobbit and the lord of the rings. It doesn't seem to flow like those do but then Tolkien didn't finish it, his son compiled it from his notes which is probably why.

The unfinished tales I thoroughly enjoyed as well, as it tells the stories that are mentioned or hinted at in the books like in the hobbit, on the journey to the lonely mountain, gandalf keeps wondering off. The unfinished tales tells you what he was doing. There are loads of stuff in there. The only bit I found a bit boring was about how the rohirrim came to but other than that they are both really enjoyable.

Also check out "the children of hurin" it's set at the same time as the silmarillion but goes into a little bit more detail about turin's tale which is one of my favourite bits in the silmarrillion.

I believe I found what you were referring to. It is the 'middle earth atlas'

The feature is in the appendices for each of the movies: FOTR , Appendicies Pt 1, index 3 of 9; TTT, App. Pt 3, index 2 of 11; ROTK App. Pt 5, index 3 of 14.

The feature shows the locations visited by, on ROTK for example:
1.Frodo and Sam 2.Merry 3. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli 4.Gandalf and Pippin.

You can view each of the places visited by the 4 groups on the map of middle earth, and select each of the locations, sequentially to see a vignette. Well worth watching, in my opinion.

What is different between the DVD Extended Version and the BluRay Extended Version?
The BluRay Extended is 20 minutes LONGER than the DVD Extended....
