Does anyone think the Amazon price of the set will go down to 70 bucks again, or is it just going to keep rising?
I abstained from buying initially because I was sure Netflix would have it available soon, but that doesn't seem to be the case. 9 DVDs of special features is overkill (why didn't they use Blu-Ray's greater storage capacity?), but oh well. |

Perhaps... but generally when items sell out there's a disclaimer that reads: "Temporarily out of stock. Order now and we'll deliver when available." On a hot ticket item such as this, I don't see why Amazon would want to stop taking orders if they were expecting a new shipment within a few days. Anything's possible though I guess...

Why is the Lord of the Rings extended trilogy on DVD more expensive than the blu ray version?

It's more because that set is OOP.
It came out well after all 3 volumes were released individually and came the a box and a pretty limited print run. (and due to some fan outrage at the box being made available only in the set, NLC/WB eventually offered it as a mail in offer to those who purchased the EE's individually) |

For the year 2001-03 movies CGI, LOTR is not bad. Infact WETA did a very good job at it. It was their work on the trilogy which put them on the map. If you watch the making of all 3 movies, you can see how much effort was put in for the effects and props. Eventho there are some scenes which shows crappy CGI for instance at the end of TTT where Eomer urged the gang to stay away from the trees when Saruman forces were running scared into the forest of Ents. You can notice some preety bad tree shadows which were projected on the ground. Clarity of HD makes its worst. There are many other scenes but nevertheless, majority of the CGI shots and the use of the MASSIVE system for the inception of large armies and its rendering are not that bad after all. It was well utilised and you really gotta give compliments to WETA which are not that popular for their work at the time eventho i have always admired em for their work.
Point is, there are some crappy CGI shots but majority of it, are very very good such as the merging of miniatures and CGI. Its not bad! |

I agree. I think these movies will be so much better now that PJ is directing. Not much of a Guillermo del Toro fan.
