Is this whats presented on the extended blu ray? I noticed blu-ray.com have 208 minutes listed.

Is this 228 out there? Or is it just a typo?

Thanks.
I think that is "Fan Credits".

The 5 previews at the beginning of FOTR is an abomination. Are all the sets like this? Why do they have to advertise dumb ass movies all the time?

All 3 films have previews, at least in the Canadian set I own.

If you can get the TE real cheap, as in below $20, I feel you should check them out. If you can't find a bargain you should go the rental, borrow, streaming route to see if you like them.

The limited editions had both the theatrical and extended versions on one disc plus the Costa Botes documentaries which are featured on this Blu-Ray release.

When you are talking about the DVD versions yes you are correct. At first, WB press release showed THIS BD set as a "Limited Extended Edition" but then they just changed it to "Extended Edition" so if he is talking about the BD, then there is no difference, they are the same set b/c the "Limited Extended Edition" was never actually released.

The 228 minute run time includes the fan club credits, which adds about 20+ minutes to the run time. Otherwise, there is absolutely-positively no difference. Each film has only two cuts: theatrical and extended.

One reason I disregarded the Theatricals a long time ago (since the EE DVD releases in fact LOL)

Did any of you guys get your names on the fan credits? I kind of wish I would have pursued it at the time, but I was never a Lord of the Rings fan until the extended movies came out.

I am not in the fan credits of FOTR. I have not yet checked TTT or ROTK.

Welcome to the club!

Only difference is that I watched them the morning of each's DVD release and have never looked back since.

I am in the fan club credits of all 3 films. I loved co-signing as it were, something that I enjoyed so much--a film version of my favorite fictional work for so many years.

It was neat--you got a subscription to the fan club magazine and several posters (which I have never framed, but are of framing quality). I wonder if The Hobbit will have this available, but I doubt it, since Decipher, who ran the fan club (I think--it was several years ago) has had its share of problems.

The US set does NOT contain previews (forced or otherwise) on any of the 3 movies.

Sorry, this appears to just be a Canadian thing (unless the sets in Europe are also afflicted with previews).

I'm with you there. The theatricals to me feel like edited-for-tv versions (probably because I saw the extended versions first). Certain scenes don't flow as well and just feel rushed in the theatricals (like Frodo & Gandalf's conversation in the wagon at the beginning of Fellowship). Not having Faramir's backstory (even though it was changed from the book) makes him seem so minor in Two Towers and Return Of The King. I know Peter has said that the theatricals are his preferred versions, but watching some of the making of documentaries, he sometimes seems like he was a bit too concerned about pacing.

i suspected as much,
in canada all the ads,
paper & online show the wb press release image,
all the stores have packaging without the word "limited"
or the blu-ray banner @ the top;
to make it more fun,
the upc @ best buy and at future shop are different
than the upc @ costco

the distributor,
new line cinema,
does not acknowledge the release on their web site...

wouldn't it be nice
if they would just make the info easily available??

there i go dreaming again,,,
nonetheless
thanx for the info

Yes...edited-for-TV is exactly how they felt!

LOTR has more in common with summer blockbusters than winter movies so why do they always come out in december instead of summer ?
