Thank you sir. I enjoyed the movie, but when I caught the first (NON-Extended) version in the theater, I actually fell out a couple times during the slower parts

That is my main/only reason for giving it a 3 of 5. The 2nd/3rd ones were much more action-packed/better special efx, kept me engaged, etc. That 1st one though, not as much.

So I gather it'll be roughly six months from the time the boxset of the extended's was released to when these films will be available separately. Already have all the bonus material on the extended DVD's, I only want the actual films themselves on Blu.

I haven't seen the green tint on FOTR yet except for pics/clips on the net, hopefully it won't bother me too much.

Is the extras scenes worth it?Is it more action scenes or just a lot of talk?I'm not a fan of Lotr and never watched it.So this is a blind buy.But I do like Peter Jackson.

I don't think it will.

In my review above, the only parts that seemed Vibrant with the use of green was when the story was still in the village (the lush landscapes, grass fields, forest scenes somewhat).

It is NOT over the Entire film.

If you just purchased the theatrical version, and you're not a huge LotR fan, I would say just go with what you've got. The extended version adds a little bit more of everything; action, character development, and it sort of fleshes out the plot line a little more, but the theatricals are already 8 hours 54 minutes long, not counting the credits.

From everything I've heard, Peter Jackson prefers the theatrical versions, and he just did the extended versions (notice he didn't call it the director's cut), for the hard core fans (like me).

I have read the LotR books many, many times, way before the movies came out, and most of the extended scenes usually add more from the book, so people like me are obviously going to want that information.

I would suggest just enjoying the theatrical versions for a good long while, until you're familiar with them, and if you grow to love the movies, then maybe wait for a deal on the extended versions, if you feel so inclined to get even more details.

Were these the same as the theatrical scene selections thumbnails? I assume they would have done new thumbnails for the extended scenes. It just seems odd that the two images don't match.
I'm pretty sure that Ken Brown pointed that out somewhere earlier in this thread, that the thumbnails are indeed differently colored/contrasted than the actual film, but I couldn't seem to find the exact post. I have also noticed this myself on my copy.

Which is a bargain of a lifetime....
Holy crap! You got the EE BD set for $11.50?!
Now that's what I call a good deal!

Thanks for the Ken Brown information frogmort. Yes it was a great deal. A couple of guys paid absolutely zero for their sets as they had over £30 of coupons. Luckily for us the supermarket deal coincided with the coupons arriving on our doorsteps....

I finally broke down and decided to order this set. The only movie I seen in any form is Fellowship of the Ring, and I preferred the extended cut. I can't wait to watch the other two films for the first time.

I have heard this too, and yet after watching the movies again with his commentary on, I got the impression he was happier to see most of the gaps filled, and some actions/events better explained.

Yeah, I think that maybe he is just more proud of the theatricals because they won all of those Oscars, whereas technically speaking, the extended versions didn't.

I had rented the theatrical blus and was very dissapointed with FOTR Picture quality.
Anyways I have the extendeds on dvd and love them. SO I rented FOTR extended last night, is its just me or is the pic quality a lot better than the theatrical blu?
Or did my standards drop because my expectations were lower.

Sure there were parts that looked soft but many scenes look better than the theatrical version?

Anyways I am going to buy them now

The re-did the Fellowship transfer, as the the first one was terrible.

The first transfer wasn't green but it was a piss poor transfer, hence why they did a new one for the EE.

Im just being a drama queen. I bought it the day it came out, and love them all. Probably never would've noticed the green had I not known about this forum. But like someone said earlier, re-calibrating the t.v. does wonders.
