Default From what I've seen...

people who have read the books tend to prefer the EE version, because there is more of them in the EE. For those who view these as "films" and not as a version of the books, many seem to prefer the theatricals. They probably are better paced, but that's sooo not an issue for me as use my stop button to take a break, and pick it back up when I'm ready to, much like I did the book, so for me, it's all about telling more of the story.

That might also break down into those who read books generally (from choice), versus those who mostly get their stories from films or TV. The latter tend to prefer their stories more linear and in bite-size chunks, and aren't as prepared to invest time in letting a story develop and weave its extra strands.

Yeah, I'm always dubious when people talk about movies being "better paced", because much of the time - though you don't sound like you fall into this category - they really mean that it was simply leaner, or faster, or got to the climax more quickly (without regard for the flavours that got lost along the way). Good pacing can also mean slow and deliberate, depending on the scene, if that lets more tension or expectation build and allows the film ultimately to deliver a bigger whammy.

"Pacing" is a concept that seems completely misconstrued in a lot of internet talk about films.

Maybe it's because I read the book not long before I saw the movie, because that's what he said there too.

Gandalf says, "Fly you fools." I watch it every year and watch that scene twice every time. I even put that scene on once in a while just for shits and giggles. It's definitely "Fly you fools."

Put the subtitles on. You'll see the truth.

!!

Sorry, not mocking you P_K, but you have an amazing faith in subtitles being accurate! They often fall short of that, in my experience.

(But yeah, you're right about what Gandalf says, in both the film and the book.)

I usually tend to like theatricals more than extended. It seems they just add fluff and deleted scenes that weren't good enough to make the final cut.

Watchin ROTK tonight.

Yeah, I'm not sure how accurate of a measuring tool that would be, but he really likes that phrase:

Maybe I'll start using the phrase "a fraction of a frog hair".

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I didn't feel like going through 532 pages of thread. Is the green tint only on Fellowship or is it on Towers and King as well??

Oh no, you mentioned the War!!

There are people who'll claim it's not on any of them, but it's there. It's on Fellowship only.

That's what I heard PJ said, when it was announced that there nwould be EE versions. Ironically he completely ruined the scene when Gandalf is preventing the Witch-King from entering Minas Tirith.
