Best Buy Canada and Future shop say June 28th, 2011.
Why isn't Amazon updating the date.

If it is true I would love to have the LOTR set in my hands in about 3 months from now
Amazon did update their site and it says June 28th

Well, the date has been confirmed. Like everybody else has said, just look at the front page of the site. Give it time; it'll pop up soon.

I apologize to you. But I don't apologize for making sense and talking it.

Back to business. Big confession I've never seen the extended editions. I only ever rented LOTRings before blu, and the blockbusters in Australia stocked only the TE versions.

I'm guessing Christopher Lee for one got more screen time in the EE's. From the non-spoiler tagged hinting in this and other LOTR threads around.

I'm all for that. Although I also am all about how his exposition-like montages play in the TE. It's just so epic how he sits within the franchise. To me, this is the one thing that I'm slightly worried about in letting the experience of the EE wash over me.

I'm committed to the pre-order and an excited to be a completest with LOTR on blu.. just airing my small little worry. :P

No offense but I think Peter Jackson is in a better position to say what format Lord of the Rings should be presented in than you are.

I agree - but Jackson knows that if they were to release a 3D only version or even try upcharging for a combo 2D/3D release they'd sell a LOT less discs. 2D will be the way to go, Im sure.

There are no such thing as 3D only major movie releases and there never will be. A 3D only Blu-Ray of Lord of the Rings is as likely as an island tipping over

Yeah - I suppose so.

Just glad these are out this summer. For us, summer can actually be time to watch MORE movies than winter. It just works out that way so having these in late June/Early July is a great time to watch them!

Funny that, in another thread call Star Wars the creator does not know and should listen to the fans as what is best for the movies

Anyway, on topic....I won't be there for a re-release in theaters for Lord Of The Ring in 3D. I wil be quite happy with the Blu-ray release of the extended version.

Ummm... so... yeah... July 28th anyone? Lord of the Rings, Extended Edition, in GLORIOUS HD, 6.1 DTS HD MA audio. 15 discs, 6 BD's and 9 DVD's, with all of the previous supplements? Does anyone remember that stuff? Hooray!

Yeah well you're comparing apples to applesauce... or something

Remember that... Peter Jackson is a Sir... yeah that's it, that's the difference

I am sure he will do a good job on the conversion, of that there is no fear really. I just don't have a personal interest in 3D, I never did so that is why I would not bother seeing them. I won't even go see the re-release of Star Wars in theaters, just got no interest in that. Cool for those that love it.

I have actually held off watching the DVDs of the EE for a few years or so now in anticipation of the blu release. Last time I did watch it I did it over 2 nights...........I am thinking of trying to do the whole thing in one day this time......... I am sure there are people on here who have done this and I was curious how it went? Did doing it all in one day seem a bit much or was it a good experience?

Got a buddy who was able to, I sure can't. I watched the TC blu's last week, will probably not be able to hold off until June for the EE's, but that's okay, they will be mine, I'll just watch em again!!!
