I am now predicting there will be 2, yes 2 more releases of this trilogy ON BLURAY within the next 2 years, firstly individual extended releases and then some kind of anniversary thing to tie in with the Hobbit movie. In fact, screw it, now that i think more of it, I think I'll wait
This is basically my stance as well. It's the same reason I haven't bought any of the Harry Potter films on blu yet.

I have the EEs of Lord of the Rings on DVD. I fully expect the 'all-inclusive' LotR set (with both the theatricals and the EEs [on single BDs each] as well as all current and new extras [all on BDs]) to come out when The Hobbit does.

I can wait a little longer.

Default One Blu Ray set to rule them all...

...and in the darkness bind them.
$50 was my tipping point--and I am surprised I made it this long

To me, there wouldn't be much point in making a new documentary. The DVDs that come with the set are already jam-packed with hours of documentary footage. If they made a new documentary, almost everything they say would seem redundant. Take the Back To The Future set, for example. They made a new documentary and sure, you get some new interviews and stuff, but almost everything that is said was already said in the original documentary; you'd be getting the same information just in different words.

Do you guys think the price will go lower than $50 on Black Friday or that immediate weekend?

$50 was my tipping point, but I'm starting to think I could do better if I wait just another week.

Can't imagine it goes any lower. This was a reaction to Best Buy's ad and it was the cheapest of any Black Friday deals. $50 was my buying price as well. I will sell the Digital copies to bring down the cost a little.

So you like to watch new instead of the same thing over and over again? And you also like to own instead of borrow.

You do see where the lack of logic is in those two statements, right?

I like to watch whatever I want when I want to watch it, and actually have something to show for my money in the end. I can watch something 500 times or once. It's on the shelf whenever I want, and thankfully I've worked long and hard enough that I don't have to worry about how much I spent on them. If a friend comes over and wants to watch something, it's there.

Same reason I don't rent, I own a house.

Why do people seem to care so much about how others spend their money? It's THEIR money, and they are not doing anything harmful or illegal with it, so they should be free to do it without criticism.

For those who buy these boxsets, always end up reselling them on Ebay, or Amazon. Some people have a tendency to buy them, just so they can say they have it. Go on Ebay, and you'll see a lot of Lord of the Rings Extended Edition DVDs, and Blu-rays for sale. Why buy it, if they're not going to keep it!

It's irrational. Not judging, just saying. Go add up the number of hours it would take you to watch your current collection. Just the movies themselves, not even the special features. Bet it would takes months worth of 8 hour days.

And why I don't judge is because I was one of those people who had over 200 DVD's. A complete waste. Now I have about 50 Blu-rays. I have about 10 more to buy and then I'm done. I made a list of my must haves. It was at about 100. I trimmed it down from there.

I like my collection a lot more now. It's made up of my absolute favorites. And I use each movie a lot more. Obviously, Lord of the Rings is on that short list. And rightfully so. It's a great movie saga.

Thankyou,

I like most everybody else on this website adore Blu-rays. Not only are they pristine quality versions of the movies I love, but they are a film scrapbook of different points in my life. Sure I may not watch every one on rotation at any given point, but I always re-watch scenes that inspire me artistically and provide variety for me as a film student. I don't understand why you would come on to a website obviously aimed at home theater lovers/movie collectors and bash us. We love collecting, we love movies, and we love Blu-rays.

Has Peter Jackson ever commented on the FOTR-EE color/tint change?

1,000 ways to blow cash, and I choose movies & games.
300+ dvds, days of old & have no regrets yet.

and then...
Picked up the ex. trilogy today from b!tch buy.
Early afternoon the web site showed no sets in store,
so I just asked about it @ CS. Low and behold 3 sets were packed away somewhere in the back. lucky me ...ymmv
is it secret? is it safe?

Sure I could wait to see if, IF this set dropped lower than $49. ~but having the ocd to know I have an undamaged set now, vs. the scrapps durring the sales war...
my precious.
