I usually go with one movie a week myself. Like you said Bob, there is a lot to digest, and staying "sharp" is almost essential in order to take it all in.

I really like this idea and think I'll give it a try this summer. I usually watch one movie a night but I like the idea of spreading it out (like I do with the Potter films).

As for one sitting - we usually do them broken up over a 3 -night period with small intermissions during the films. If there is one thing I loved about the DVD EE release was that the "insert second disc" message came up at the perfect time when viewing the films. Lets you sit back for a minute, maybe even discuss a few things before finishing up. Excellent.

No doubt. 3 nights is a good plan as well........gives this intense experience a bit more time to digest!

I did exactly that the last time I watched the EEs (which was quite some time ago). I love these movies, but I found the longer versions to be a bit of a struggle to get through. The 'mini-series' approach gives you a bit more time to take it all in, although it's a shame that there's not a 'Previously on Lord Of The Rings' recap between parts, just in case the next viewing gets sidetracked.

My hat is off to those who can consecutively watch all 11+ hours of the EE's (especially the younger members with their youthful exuberance). I did that after the Return of the King EE DVD was released and I have also been guilty of watching 2001 in the theater for all four showings in a day. But I would rather make it a celebration and enjoy all the nuances, as opposed to fighting ass calluses and relishing in the thought that there are, "just another six hours to go!"

I figured this out a few years ago, and wrote it down. If you don't count the end credits, the length of the EE, rounded to the nearest 30 seconds is:

FOTR pt1 - 1:45:30
FOTR pt2 - 1:35:00 both - 3:20:30
-----------------------------------------------
TTT pt1 - 1:46:30
1st 1/2 of all movies = 5:07:00
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TTT pt2 - 1:48:30 both - 3:35:00
-----------------------------------------------
ROTK pt1 - 2:07:30
ROTK pt2 - 1:54:00 both - 4:01:30 -
2nd 1/2 of all movies = 5:50:00
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total - 10:57:00

Sometimes, I will watch FOTR & the first part of TTT in one sitting, and then watch the rest the next day.

I wonder if the BD EE's will include the list of thousands of fans who paid to have their names in DVD EE credits?

How did those people get their names on the list?

Members of the LotR fan club got their names put on there - which you did, indeed, have to pay for.

Thanks. I find it's easier to keep LOTR fresh with each movie when I'm watching other things in between and spreading them out. I agree - very intense and event filled movies require a focus that many movies don't.

Most exclusive fan clubs have a memberships fee. Having your name in the credits was a perk of the deal.

Of course it is, plus the very reason that these EEs will have to be put on two BD disks.

I hope they relegate the fan club list to one of the dvds. Wouldn't that mean less video compression?

My name is one of the names on the fan club credits. They put the fan club credits on all 3 of the extended edition dvds. They put the fan club credits on the extended edition of the first movie on vhs, but not the other 2 (not sure why the other 2 movies did not get the fan club credits on the vhs.).

So, would you be offended if they put that on one of the DVDs?

How much did the membership cost?
