In my current situation, it would take at least 8 months for me to afford an HDTV below $400. I'm on Supplemental Security, and once all my responsibilities are done, I have to make about $200 last a whole month.

By which I mean: these films were such a monumental release for me, it honestly hadn't occurred to me that there would be people who had never seen them! !!!

LotR is one of my absolute favorite movies and books of all time. I've read the books at least once a year since I was about 12~13 years old(I'm 41), and I saw all three movies on opening day. I watch the LotR trilogy more often than any of my other blu-rays.

I just tried watching the first disc of "Return of the King", and it wouldn't play. So, I put in the second disc, which works just fine. Upon closer inspection, I noticed there's a warped section at the center of the first disc, with a small crack as well. Now, I'm gonna have to get the whole set exchanged tomorrow.

I'm going to pretend I didn't just feel a giant wave of sarcasm wash over me...

Anyway, my local Fry's opened at 8AM, so I made sure to be there. They still had 3 copies of the set left, so I got an even exchange, and the first thing i did at home was run a quick check on the discs for "Return of the King". Both appear to function properly, so I look forward to watching it later tonight.

If you have yet to see it, how do you know they "butchered it?" Which part(s) exactly upsets you?

Was the green tint issue ever addressed? What is the final word on it?

My friend, you're in for a real treat-action, suspense, love-interest, comic-relief, etc. These movies simply have it all. The more you know about the books, the more you'll love the movies. I hadn't read a fictional book in 25yrs, but I read the trilogy after seeing the movies(along w/ a guide book so it'd be easier to follow). Then I went back and watched them again...and again...and again. Completely enhanced the movie experience 5 fold for me. I suggest you do the same. The trilogy was a genre that held ZERO interest for me(medieval). However, these movies are just different. They are so deep(if you're familiar w/ the background). They involve so many very "human" things-character, courage, honor, nobility, selflessness, doubt, fear, insecurity, failure, fragility, selfishness, etc. You won't be disappointed!

Default The Two Towers Extended Edition Loses Sound

Anyone else experience this? At about 51:35 into the movie (just before Gandalf the White appears in Fanghorn forest) the sound suddenly quits. Stopping and starting, backing up, or skipping forward does nothing to restore it. The only way to get sound back is to turn the player off and back on again.

I tried inserting the disc and going to the scene selections to the section just after, then backtracking into the scene and that works. It seems to be the only way. I'm hoping this is an isolated issue and returning the movie for a replacement will fix it. But wanted to check here first in case it's a known problem with no solution. If that's the case, I'll return it for a refund.

I have a Panasonic DMP-BD80 player.

Thanks

Is the firmware up to date? It has to be the player as it plays fine on all of my players.

It's been a few months since I last updated it. Worth a try to be sure. Thanks for raising that question. I'll post my results when done.

Checked my player and the firmware is current.

Does the disc play in a different player?

I only have the one player. I would have to test it on someone else's but I don't have any friends who have one nearby. Perhaps I can try it at a store.
