I agree. I can live with the slightly different colour timing but the darkness of the picture and the crushed blacks are really lessening my enjoyment of the movie. Especially the Moria scenes look terrible. The flight over the stairs at Khazad-dûm has lost much of its impact.
I hope for a remaster when Jackson prepares the ultimate edition box-set of THE HOBBIT and TLOTR.

Disagreeing on this colour timing issue doesn't require characterising others in a negative way - unless of course you need to do that to feel good about your own opinion, in which case that's your personal problem.

So how about you take some of your own advice, try not to be so insensitive, recognise that your opinions aren't facts, and try not to get bent out of shape yourself about other people's posts?
HAHA... You are so sensitive it's a laugh. I'm not even going to bother replying to you anymore as I can see you are one of "those" Enjoy your life!

When Fry's had it for $40, I jumped, and overall, I don't regret it.
Yeah it really is a great trilogy and so much fun to watch. I also jumped on Costco's $39.99 deal and happy I did. For me, it's the best these have ever looked on home video. They are so freaking long though I probably won't watch them as much as the rest of my collection.

Yeah, I only watch them about 3 times a year on average.

The extended editions collectively add 2hrs 3min more movie, not counting credits. It's basically like getting an extra movie's worth of content, and in my opinion, most of the extra stuff really helps flesh out the story better, it's not just filler fluff.

No kidding. I just finished disc two of FotR and I can't imagine cutting anything out. Peter Jackson definitely had a hell of a time deciding what to cut.

I agree with you for the most part except for ROTK. The extended cut is about 15-20 minutes too long for the last third of the film. Luckily, it's not enough to be a major blow to the film.

That's why I said "most of the extra stuff". I could do without the Witchking exploding Gandalf's staff, but that's probably just because I'm a book nerd.

The Fellowship EE feels the best and nothing disturbs it flow whether it be TE or EE. It's definitely deserves it's spot on AFI's 100 list. Two Tower's there are small things that get on my nerves. Grima spitting on the hand of Aragon was unnecessary. I liked the Ents in the TE not so much in the EE. Too much screen time lessens their appeal. ROTK EE added some much needed battle sequences as the TE version felt too thin for a large scale epic war. However once Sauron is defeated there is this huge hangover that doesn't go away until the credits roll. The ending was just too drawn out.

The end is the same for the TE and the EE, isn't it?

I like that part. I was mainly referring to the last hour which consists of everyone smiling, crying, and saying goodbye over and over.

As I stated in the rewatchable thread... I watch the Theatricals about once a month these days.

I'm so used to them, this recent purchase of the EE's is going to be odd to swallow. But I can't die without seeing all the fuss. Would it have made me feel better if no one had a complaint about some of the sequences fleshed out for the EE? Sure. But overall it seems positive.

I still wonder about pacing...It's in the mail. Snapped the set up for 49$ on BF! I'll find out soon enough 5-10 days I figure.

I only remember seeing the first two theatrical cuts a few times, and the third just once. By contrast, I've seen the extended versions so much, I don't remember a lot of differences anymore. I know Peter Jackson has said he prefers the theatricals, but even though they're much longer, the EEs are it for me. I wonder if he'll be doing a similar treatment with the upcoming Hobbit films? If that's the case, I may just wait.

Maybe or maybe not, the thing is, the upcoming Hobbit film will be more impressive cause of the new transfers from Paramount, MGM and I guess with New Line are meant to be on Blu-Ray these days. You can see the difference though with the newest films are up to date.

I wonder if that's what you say to everyone who objects to your behaviour - that they're too "sensitive"? I imagine you'd have to use that line quite often, then.

I've just bought the TE set, but I'm much more familiar with the Extended, so I wanted to check this set out, but wonder if I'm not going to just miss the extra footage that doesn't come. It might take a couple of watches (or maybe more?) to be able to judge these versions in their own right.

I noticed a few scenes were darker, but most of them looked almost identical to the DVDs, except for the added resolution of course.
