I do have a question of continuity: in FOTR, when Frodo remarks that Gandalf has been "officially labeled disturber of the peace," Gandalf answers (I'm more or less paraphrasing): "If you are referring to the incident with the dragon, I hardly had anything to do with it...I merely gave your uncle a nudge out the door."

I wonder how this line will sit with The Hobbit, and will there be a change to it when the so-call "ultimate editions" eventually come out?

Why would they need to change it?

My biggest wonder, is now that there IS The Hobbit, what they will do in concerns to the segment in which you see Bilbo get the ring in FotR's prologue.

I don't think they need to change it, honestly. When the story is recounted in FotR, it's being told from the point of view of the 111yo Bilbo, so it seems fair enough that he would see himself back then as a version of how he saw himself now. In The Hobbit, we see it for ourselves - in real time, so to speak. I don't think they need to replace the footage in FotR with a similar shot of Martin Freeman, if that's what you were meaning.

I'm going to be honest, between this and Firefly, I'm really hoping this is under the tree on Sunday. I probable would have picked it up myself, but I haven't seen it below $50 anywhere Originally I was thinking I'd wait for the complete set, now not so much.

Do you mean the five movie set? That will be available in about two and a half years.

Question

Has anybody compared the new color timing of Fellowship with the colours in the Hobbit Trailer?

It seems to me that Gandalf is giving him more than just "a shove..." but then again, I may be reading too much into it.

Default 3 Disc LOTR EE ?

Just wondering if there's been any news of a 3 disc EE set? I don't want the EE box set that's currently available. I would accept a bit more compression to get each movie on it's own disc.

I think that was meant to be taken as a joke, and a nod to those familiar with "The Hobbit" story.

No, and if you are expecting a 3 disc EE set it will probably never come. They MAY release them without the extra DVD's included, but I wouldn't hold my breath on them releasing the BD's without the intermission.

Oh, I thought the comments were made to everyone that were off topic, as I was as well.

Why you busting my ball's Scotty? The lowest the set is right now is $49.99(Best Buy) and the lowest that it got was $39.99 at Fry's. At that time I took a pass and now I'm kicking myself for it. So I'm hoping that it will go back on sale down the line. I hope if that happens you'll be one of the first to post about it

I hear what you are saying frog, but sometimes you have to prioritize things. Which is why I had to take a pass when the set was on sale. Still, most likely they won't be adding too much if they do a complete set down the line. Worse case scenario, I double dip at a later date. I was thinking that my dvd set could tied me over, but I worry about the picture holding up, blah, blah.

Seriously. Months and months of talk about the green tint and now when the Trailer of "The Hobbit" is released, nobody bothers to check if it was done to fit the new film?

There are other message boards where this has most definitely been discussed and let's just say it is NOT there. Without going back to that whole argument let's just say that it matches far more closely with the look of the Shire in ROTK than it does with the Shire as represented in FOTR's new colour timing. It has far more of that golden, lush look than the "overcast" day look that FOTR now has.

The teal wash was only on Fellowship, and was only done to try to fix colour grading problems with that film, not because that was the chosen "look" for Middle Earth overall. The other two LotR films don't match the look of Fellowship, and there was no reason for The Hobbit to.

The Hobbit's being shot digitally, so they can grade and regrade to their hearts' content, right up to the film's release. And even after, if they really want.
